2 The Old Testament Story The LORD had said to Abram, Go from your country, your people and your father s household to the land I will show you. 2 I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you. Genesis 12:1-3 (NIV)

3 The Old Testament Story For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession. Deuteronomy 7:6 (NIV)

4 The Old Testament Story If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth However, if you do not obey the LORD your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you Then the LORD will scatter you among all nations, from one end of the earth to the other. There you will worship other gods gods of wood and stone, which neither you nor your ancestors have known. Deuteronomy 28:1, 15, 64 (NIV)

5 The Old Testament Story When all these blessings and curses I have set before you come on you and you take them to heart wherever the LORD your God disperses you among the nations, 2 and when you and your children return to the LORD your God and obey him with all your heart and with all your soul according to everything I command you today, 3 then the LORD your God will restore your fortunesand have compassion on you and gather you again from all the nations where he scattered you. 4 Even if you have been banished to the most distant land under the heavens, from there the LORD your God will gather you and bring you back. Deuteronomy 30:1-4 (NIV)

6 The Old Testament Story Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face, 11 who did all those signs and wonders the LORD sent him to do in Egypt to Pharaoh and to all his officials and to his whole land. 12 For no one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel. 24 Key Word: Bad a. Nineveh s bad had come up before God (1:1) b. The sailors wanted to know who was responsible for the bad (1:7-8) c. When God saw Nineveh s response, He did not bring bad upon them (3:10) d. But to Jonah, this was bad, and he became angry (4:1) e. Jonah disobeyed God because he knew God would relent of sending bad (4:2) f. God gave Jonah a shady plant to ease Jonah s bad, and Jonah was happy (4:6)
