Not only would Abram s descendents be blessed, but all people on earth will be blessed through you (12:3b). When Abram arrived in Canaan, God told him, To your offspring, I will give this land (12:7). Abraham to the Sojourn in Egypt

35 Abraham to the Sojourn in Egypt The story of Joseph explains how the descendents of Abraham came to settle in Egypt. Abraham s great-grandson, Joseph, the youngest of Jacob s 12 sons, was sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and taken to Egypt. However, Joseph rose to a position of prominence in Egypt. Abraham to the Sojourn in Egypt
36 Abraham to the Sojourn in Egypt Eventually, because of Joseph, Jacob and his family found refuge in Egypt from a severe famine in Canaan. Joseph tells his brothers, You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives (Gen. 50:20). 37 Abraham to the Sojourn in Egypt Joseph and his brothers enjoyed a peaceful time in Egypt because of what God had done through Joseph. Their descendants, known as Israelites, were fruitful and multiplied greatly and became exceedingly numerous so that the land was filled with them (Ex. 1:7). The Israelites spent at least 400 years in Egypt. However, their prosperity in Egypt would not last forever. Abraham to the Sojourn in Egypt Back to Menu
