The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) 11:1 "And in the first year of Darius the Mede, I arose to be an encouragement a protection for him. 11:2 "And now I will tell you the truth. Four Kings from Persia (v1-2) God's angels help carry out God's plans. The decree of Cyrus (Jews' return to Judea) was accomplished through the working of these 2 high angels. v1-4: Alexer the Great v5-19: Antiochus the Great v20-35: Antiochus Epiphanes v36-45: Anti-Christ v1-2: Four Persian Kings v3-4: The Grecian king (Alexer the Great v5-35: The conflict between orth outh v36-45: The End Times Every one of these 35 verses have already been fulfilled; in fact commentators say that 135 prophecies have been exactly fulfilled in these verses!

The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) 200 yrs of Persian rule are passed over in a verse (v2) because they are not relevant to Daniel's theme; the Greek Empire, & the struggles between Egypt & yria, have more attention (v3-20), because armies were to march Behold, three more kings are going to arise in Persia. Then a fourth will gain far more riches than all of them; as soon as he becomes strong through his riches, he will arouse the whole empire against the realm of Greece. through Judea & put increasing pressure on God's people. Verse 1-2 (Medo-Persia). We know from history that after the death of King Cyrus who was reigning at the time of the vision, the next three kings of Persia were Cambyses ( B.C.), Bardiya (522 B.C.) Darius I ( B.C.). Cyrus Darius I issued the first two decrees to rebuild the Temple. The fourth was Xerxes ( B.C.). He was known in the Bible as Ahasuerus, the husb of Queen Esther. He spent four years stockpiling supplies manpower for a military expedition against Greece literally "stirred up" Greece. His predecessors amassed enormous fortune thro lucrative conquests of Babylon, Lydia & Egypt & a severe taxation program esp. by D. Hystaspes. Artaxerxes I, Persia s next king, gave the famous 458/7 B.C. decree to restore rebuild Jerusalem (Daniel 9:25). But he is not mentioned in this chapter, nor are the rest of the kings of Persia. Four Kings from Persia (v1-2) The Kings of Persia After Cyrus the Persian Darius the Mede, these were the next kings. 1.Cambyses ( B.C) 2.Bardiya (522) 3.Darius 1 ( B.C.) 4.Xerxes (Ahasuerus) ( B.C.)

The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) The Mighty King from Greece (v3-4) 11:3 "And Gap of more than 125 years (465BC-336BC) a mighty king will arise, he will rule with great authority do as he pleases. 11:4 "But as soon as he has arisen, his kingdom will be broken up After 22 years of fighting 4 of his generals split his empire:- (1) Lysimachus; (2) Casser (3) Ptolemy I oter (took Egypt); (4) eleucus I icator (took yria) The Grecian Empire (11:3-35) Alexer the Great (v3-4) Alexer the Great ( BC) who conquered the world in 10 years. He forced his will on his army & people he conquered. Alexer died at 33 in Babylon in drunken stupor. He had a retarded brother, murdered in 317 BC / an illegitimate son who was murdered in 309 BC / a past-humous son, murdered in 310BC - all murdered by Casser. parceled out toward the four points of the compass, though not to his own descendants, nor according to his authority which he wielded;

Location East orth West outh Four Divisions Casser Lysimachus eleucus Ptolemy Two Major Divisions orth outh eleucid Empire Ptolemies After the early death of Alexer the Great without an heir, the Greek empire was divided among his four generals. After a while, the empire was reduced to a northern southern kingdom. The eleucid empire took over the eastern northern empires started the dynasty in the north. In the south, the Greeks started a new dynasty of kings (Ptolemies) in Egypt. They came to an end when Augustus Caesar defeated Cleopatra Mark Anthony in the battle of Actium in 31 B.C. Verse 5 (King of the orth King of the outh) Ptolemy founded the Ptolemaic empire of Egypt in the south. elecius founded the eleucid empire to the north. The terms "King of the orth" "King of the outh" appear frequently in Daniel 11. They designate those countries or kingdoms in power which were physically located to the north or south of Palestine, the dwelling place for God's people. Here the angel portrays God's people caught between the great struggles of opposing powers that atan manipulates for his own ends. In verse 5, Ptolemy I oter ( B.C.) was strong right from the start. The prince who would become stronger was eleucus I icator, who was driven out of the north by one of the other of Alexer's four generals. eleucus I icator fled to Egypt where he was helped by Ptolemy I oter who outfitted him with another army by which he eventually re-took the eleucid empire. This made him "King of the orth" master of most of Alexer's original empire.

The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) The Mighty King from Greece (v3-4) for his sovereignty will be uprooted given to others besides them. 11:5 "Then the king of the outh will grow strong, 11:6 "And Ptolemy I oter ( BC) Approximately 54 years of fighting after some years they will form an alliance, The Grecian Empire (11:3-35) Alexer the Great (v3-4) Conflicts between the outh & the orth (v5-9) The outh vs The orth (11:5-9) eleucus I icator ( BC) along with one of his princes who will gain ascendancy over him obtain dominion; his domain will be a great dominion indeed. eleucus I icator gains ascendancy over Ptolemy I oter his kingdom was from Asia Minor to India. v6 - Ptolemy II Philadelphus ( BC) Antiochus I oter ( BC) (not mentioned) v6 - Antiochus II Theos ( BC)

The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) the daughter of the king of the outh will come to the king of the orth Berenice, daughter of Ptolemy to carry out a peaceful arrangement. II Philadelphus ( BC) But she will not retain her position of power, nor will he remain with his power, but she will be given up, along with those who brought her in, the one who sired her, as well as he who supported her in those times. Conflicts between the outh & the orth (v5-9) Antiochus II Theos ( BC) Verse 6. Around 250 B.C., King Ptolemy II Philadelphus of Egypt (King of the outh) King Antiochus II Theos of yria (King of the orth) tried to guarantee peace by having King Antiochus II marry the daughter (Bernice) of Ptolemy II. Antiochus II divorced his existing wife, Laodice, in order to make this marriage. A baby boy was born to Antiochus II Bernice. When Ptolemy II died, Antiochus divorced Bernice, took back Laodice. Laodice, however, was bitter. Fearing the fickleness of her husb, poisoned him had Bernice, their son, Bernice's attendants killed. Laodice then proclaimed her son eleucus II Callinicus as king. This fulfilled what the angel had told Daniel some 300 years in advance.

The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) 11:7 "But Ptolemy III Euergetes ( BC) one of the descendants of her line will arise in his place, he will deal with them he will come against their army enter the fortress of the king of the orth, display great strength. Conflicts between the outh & the orth (v5-9) v7-9 Ptolemy III Euergetes ( BC) v7 - eleucus II Callinicus ( BC) Berenice's brother easily overcame yrian army & put vindictive Laodice to death. Two wars were fought; both won by Ptoleny III Euergetes; therefore Israel ruled by Egypt. eleucus II Callinicus ( BC) He went eastward into heart & stronghold of vast yrian territory. He was very successful in this campaign. He went even as far as the Tigris River. Verse 7. In response to what Antiochus II had done, King Ptolemy III ( ), Bernice's brother, invaded yria to avenge his sister's death. He took his army all the way to Babylon beyond before voluntarily pulling back. His navy occupied elecia, the port that served Antioch, the capital of yria. For some time Egypt dominated the eastern Mediterranean shipping. In the process of winning this campaign, Ptolemy III captured some 2500 gold silver images took them back as "booty" from his campaign.

The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) 11:8 "And also their gods with their metal images their precious vessels of silver Ptolemy III Euergetes ( BC) he will take into captivity to Egypt, he on his part will refrain from attacking the king of the orth 11:9 "Then Because of yria's weakened state, Ptolemy's control included all of Israel & extended even to the port of Antioch in yria itself. the latter will enter the realm of the king of the outh, but will return to his own l. Conflicts between the outh & the orth (v5-9) v7-9 Ptolemy III Euergetes ( BC) v7 - eleucus II Callinicus ( BC) Ptolemy was mostly unopposed & imposed his will on people as he desired. The taking of losers' gods implies victory over them. According to Jerome, Ptolemy brought home "40,000 talents of silver & 2,500 precious vessels & gold images of the gods, among those which Cambyses had taken to Persia when he conquered Egypt. For this reason he was named Euergetes, or Benefactor. for some years. Peace for a Few Years

The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) Conflicts between the orth & the outh (v10-20) 11:10 "And his sons will mobilize assemble a multitude of great forces; one of them will keep on coming Antiochus III the Great ( BC) became king at 18 years of age. He took Palestine & ruled it for 14 yrs. before losing it at battle of Raphia. eleucus III Ceranus ( BC) ruled 3 years & died in battle in Asia Minor. overflow in 219 BC pass through, that v10 - eleucus III Ceraunus ( BC) v10-11,13, Antiochus III the Great ( BC) v Ptolemy IV Philipator ( BC) The Ptolemies eleucids continued to quarrel. The two sons of eleucus II (King of the orth) namely eleucus III, who was assassinated ( B.C.) Antiochus III The Great ( B.C.) continued to war against the "King of the outh". Antiochus III the Great's design was to push the boundary back to its previous limits so that Coele- yria might come within yrian domain again - accomplished in 219 BC. He returned to attack in 217 BC & pushed all the way to the southern Israeli frontier post of Raphia where a major battle with the Egyptians took place. he may again wage war up to his very fortress. in 217 BC

The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) Conflicts between the orth & the outh (v10-20) 11:11 "And Ptolemy II Philipator ( BC) given to ease & luxury & Egypt was ruled by vile ministers. the king of the outh will be enraged Then the latter will raise a great multitude, but 70,000 infantry, 5000 calvary, 73 elephants. go forth fight with the king of the orth. that multitude will be given into the h of the former. Ptolemy II Philipator was enraged at the little success of his army in Israel. In spite of his reticence towards vigorous activity, he & his sister-wife, Arsinoe, met Antiochus at Raphia. v10 - eleucus III Ceraunus ( BC) v10-11,13, Antiochus III the Great ( BC) v Ptolemy IV Philipator ( BC) In 217, Antiochus III (King of the orth) Ptolemy IV (King of the outh) waged a heated battle, the Battle of Raphia, with about 70,000 foot soldiers 5000 cavalry including some 180 trained war elephants. Antiochus had a significant numerical advantage but lost the battle.

The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) 11:12 "When the multitude is carried away, his heart will be lifted up, Ptolemy killed 10,000 footmen, 300 calvary, 50 elephants & took 4,000 prisoners. he will cause tens of thouss to fall; yet he will not prevail. 11:13 "For after an interval of some years he will press on with a great army much equipment. Conflicts between the orth & the outh (v10-20) v10 - eleucus III Ceraunus ( BC) v10-11,13, Antiochus III the Great ( BC) v Ptolemy IV Philipator ( BC) Already offensively proud, Ptolemy became insufferable. Though he achieved victory, he did not follow it up. History reveals that directly after the battle, he went back to Egypt & to the life of luxury & indolence he so enjoyed. This caused dissatisfaction on the part of the people, leaving him a weaker ruler after his victory. the king of the orth will again raise a greater multitude Antiochus III, after his defeat in 217 BC, went back than the former, raised another army to attack the empire of Ptolemy. 13 years later, he came back. Before returning against Egypt. Antiochus put forth effort to recover Eastern areas. From BC, he successfully campaigned as far as the Caspian ea & even to the border of India.

The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) Antiochus & Philip V of Macedonia made a pact to divide Egyptian possessions overseas. Therefore Philip attacked & seized several Aegean 11:14 Isls & localities in regions of Caria & Thrace. Conflicts between the orth & the outh (v10-20) In 203 BC, Ptolemy & wife died mysteriously, succeeded by 6- yearr old son, Ptolemy V Epiphanes. There was great civil unrest in Egypt. The Egyptians were openly rebellious against the Greek overlords of the Ptolemies. v10-11,13, Antiochus III the Great ( BC) v14-15,17 - Ptolemy V Epiphanes ( BC) the violent ones among your people will also lift themselves up in order to fulfill the vision, but they will fall down. in Jerusalem & gave him provisions for both army elephants. Israel was under Ptolemaic rule continuously, except for the 14 yrs that Antiochus the Great ruled but Israel was won back by P. Philopater at battle of Raphia. ow these Jews sought to assist Antiochus in taking it from Egypt once again. They received him Verse This refers to the Maccabean Revolt in 167 B.C. The leaders killed anyone who was not with them (Jews Gentiles). These violent ones were revolutionaries; strong-willed men given to revolutionary endeavour. Israel's sufferings: Israel was a continually contended battleground. "The Jews, as well as the inhabitants of Coele yria, suffered greatly, & their l was sorely harassed, for when Antiochus the Great was at war with Ptolemy Philopator with his son, P.V Epiphanes, it fell out that these nations were equally sufferers, both when he was beaten & when he beat others, so that they were like a ship tossed by the waves on both sides." Josephus.

11:15 v10-11,13, Antiochus III the Great ( BC) "Then v14-15,17 - Ptolemy V Epiphanes ( BC) In 203 BC the king of the orth will come, cast up a siege mound, capture a well-fortified city; the forces of the outh will not st their ground, The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) not even their choicest troops, for there will be no strength to make a st. 11:16 "But he who comes against him will do as he pleases, no one will be able to withst him; Because of his age, the famous Egyptian general, copas, fought Ptolemy s battles. Antiochus emerges as victor. By 199 BC, he held much of Israel. In 198 BC, he was driven back by one of Egypt's ablest general, copas. But later in the year, he defeated copas, first at idon Paneas, then at idon. Egypt sent 3 picked generals (Eropas, Menacles & Damoyenus) to lift the siege at idon, but without success. (2) to have his daughter, Cleopatra, foster his purposes in Egypt. Both failed because Egypt actually aided Rome by giving direct assistance against him & Cleopatra became a proper wife to Ptolemy.

Joined by renowned & self-exiled Hannibal from Carthage, was encouraged to invade Greece proper. He succeeded & established a strong base at Thermopylae but stopped by cipio, a Antiochus' open contempt for Rome planned humiliation for Greece now turned back on him. In 191 BC A. was driven back from his stronghold in Thermopylae; then defeated at Magnesia in Lydia of Asia Minor the following year. In 188 BC he was forced to abon all Asia Minor to the Romans. He went back tried to plunder Temple of Jupiter & his people murdered him in 187 BC. His plans had failed utterly.

He first won the support of Eumenes, king of Fergana, then did the same with key figures in yria itself. He seized throne from Demetrius his nephew,. Philopator's sons involved in a plot which put Demetrius to death. Having began without any right A. Epiphanes used his own considerable intelligence, personal magnetism & generosity to advance his cause & was not slow to silence all opposition. AE is sometimes called the Antichrist of the OT, i.e. the one who brought suffering to the Jews in his day as Antichrist will do during the Great Tribulation Once crowned, Antiochus assumed the name Epiphanes (illustrious) & sought to draw attention & admiration to himself. 2 Mac 9:10 speaks of Antiochus as the man that for a short while before, thought himself to touch the stars of heaven.

also the prince of the covenant. 11:23 "And The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) Probably a reference to the high priest, Onias III, who was deposed in 175 BC & assassinated by his own brother Menelaus, in 171 BC. The date marks interference of secular o formal alliance in history, therefore reference must be to an informal one, in keeping with the friendly relation which existed between Egypt & yria. A's own sister, Cleopatra, was still active in Egypt, being queen mother since her husb's death in 181 BC. Antiochus the Great had promised Israel & Coele-yria to Egypt as dowry with Cleopatra. Antiochus Epiphanes probably reiterated the promise at first but 5 yrs later, in 170 BC, he rescinded this promise & attacked Egypt (v25) after an alliance is made with him he will practice deception, he will go up state in the spiritual. gain power with a small force of people. 11:24 "In a time of tranquility he will enter the richest parts of the realm, The Despicable Person (v21-35) v Antiochus IV Epiphanes ( BC) v25 - Ptolemy VI Philometor ( BC) v A. begun building an incredible power base. A contest of power between 2 of Antiochus' nephews, sons of Cleopatra & Ptolemy V, A. supported Ptolemy VI Philometor in his struggle for the throne but only for his own gain. He attacked them when they least expected it. After making firm preparations to invade other cities.

The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) he will accomplish what his fathers never did, nor his ancestors; he will distribute plunder, He apparently took booty, good things from rich districts gave them to the poor to build favour with them. possessions among them, he will devise his schemes against strongholds, but Because the living God whom he defied would intervene. only for a time. 11:25 "And he will stir up his strength courage against the king of the outh with a large army; The Despicable Person (v21-35) Antiochus was obsessed with his own importance as his coins prove conclusively. Bearing, early in his reign, his own portraits & the inscription 'King Antiochus'. They become increasingly pretentious, with the addition of such symbols as a star above the king's head, & the words "God Manifest" (Theos Epiphanes) attached to a portrait with the features of Apollo, or later, Zeus, crowned with laurels or the sun's rays. Polybius makes references to the popular reaction to his self-adopted title : 'Antiochus surnamed Epiphanes gained the name Epimanes (mad man) by his conduct.' v Antiochus IV Epiphanes ( BC) v25 - Ptolemy VI Philometor ( BC) His ambition demed that Egypt be incorporated into one great empire of orthern Kingdom. His 1st campaign against Egypt was in 170 BC.

The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) so the king of the outh will mobilize an extremely large The main battle was fought at Pelusium, East of ile delta. 22 11:27 "As for both kings, their hearts will be intent on evil, They harbored evil intentions they toward each other. will speak lies to each other at the same table; but it will not succeed, for The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) the end is still to come at the appointed time. 11:28 "Then he will return to his l with much plunder; but his heart will be set against the holy covenant, The Despicable Person (v21-35) A.E. took Memphis but was repulsed when he attempted to march on Alexria by P. Euergetes. Antiochus therefore treated Ptolemy VI Philometor royally, although he was prisoner, to gain his help against his brother. He installed him as king at Memphis. Then they y planned how to take back Egypt for P. VI, A.E. making promises he had no intention of keeping & P.VI pretending acceptance, while always distrusting his unscrupulous uncle. After installation as king at Memphis by A.E., P.VI worked out a joint rule of the l with his brother & then married their common sister, Cleopatra, named after their mother, who thus became queen. After failing to take Egypt, A. returned home, taking with him much booty as a salve for his wounded pride. On his way home, he stopped in Israel & desecrated the l, sacked the city, slaughtered many Jews, caused much suffering; worked great havoc against the Temple, the religious personnel & the ceremonial system. The Jews then turned against Menelaus & A. helped Menelaus (who replaced Jason as high priest in 172 BC by offering A. a higher bribe), & put down the minor revolt. This was also to vent his anger. Then he returned home after his disappointment in Egypt.

The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) he will take action then return to his own l. 11:29 "At the appointed time he will return come into the outh, but 168 BC this last time it will not turn out the way it did before. 11:30 "For Rome ships of Kittim will come against him; R He killed thouss of Jews, wanted to force them to become Grecian in their thinking & ways. Jews resisted & suffered for it (see 1 Mac 1:29-32; 52-61; 2 Mac 6:18-31; 7:1-42) 2 yrs after 1st campaign (God's time) in 168 BC The Despicable Person (v21-35) He returned because his Egyptian nephews decided to reign jointly & he determined to break that coalition. The Roman fleet brought to Egypt the counsel Gaius Popilius Laenas who forced A.E. with an ultimatum by drawing round him a circle & ordering him to respond before stepping out of it. "From the day when Popilius Laenas drew with his stick the circle in the s round the feet of A. E., there was no doubt who ruled the Med.A eleucid king, that king A.E., stepped out of the circle to go home as he was told."

Then in 172 BC, another brother, Menelaus succeeded in replacing Jason, by promising a still larger bribe. In 171 BC Menelaus murdered Onias who rebuked him for giving away & selling many of the gold Temple utensils to pay his bribe. Jews stirred up a revolt against Menelaus & his accomplice, A. s officer & this in turn prompted A. s reprisals. He sought people who already turned from God's law, including Menelaus, the apostate high priest, who gave full co-operation in his attempt to stamp out observance of the Mosaic ceremonies. show regard for those who forsake the holy covenant. His principal offensive actions: (1) pollute Temple - force Grecian customs on Jews. (2) declared Mosaic ceremonies illegal - killed many. (3) replaced their god with the Grecian god, Zeus.

And they will set up the abomination of desolation. 11:32 "And The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) 1 Mac 1:44-47 describes the fulfillment of the prophecy And the king sent letters by the h of messengers into Jerusalem & the cities of Judah, that they should follow laws strange to the l, should forbid whole burnt offerings & sacrifice & drink offerings in the sanctuary; & should profane the sabbaths & feasts, & pollute the sanctuary & them that are holy. v31 - He put guards all around temple, stopped all worship & sacrifices. They did this because the political conditions seemed to fulfill the times spoken of by Daniel 9. The temple was desecrated by Antiochus Epiphenes. They tried to fulfill the vision failed. This was because the vision was for the time of the end their methods were not godly. They temporarily succeeded in driving out the Greeks restoring the temple, but the movement quickly died within five years when Judas was killed because of the political alliance of Hellenistic Jews with the Greeks. Ultimately, they failed to force the fulfillment of the vision because the time of fulfillment was far into the future, 2000 years. As the prophecy predicted, "they shall fall" when they try to "establish the vision" or make the prophecy come through in their time.

The last 3 revelations closed with a word about Anti-Christ, fitting that this last one should too. Dan 11:36 the wilful king Dan 7 - little horn Dan 8 - the insolent king Dan 9 - the prince who is to come 2Th 2 - the man of lawlessnes God's indignation, threatening destruction but delaying it until the last possible moment, is a familiar theme of the prophets. The Arrogant King (v36-45)

11:37 "And The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) (1) probably gods worshipped by Romans (both pagan deities & the true God worshipped by the Roman church) down through the centuries. (2) some say Anti-Christ will be a Jew, that God of his fathers refer to Yahweh. he will show no regard for the gods of his fathers or for the desire of women, nor will he show regard for any other god; for he will magnify himself above them all. From earliest days, Rome has been religious, but this future ruler will be different, denying all deity & pursuing 11:38 "But instead warfare instead. he will honor a god of fortresses, a god whom his fathers did not know; he will honor him with gold, silver, costly stones, His god is force or power & his goal is fortresses, strongholds, military treasures. programs in place of religious beliefs. His Character (1) marked by perogative (v36), i.e. makes all decisions according to own will, absolute sovereign/dictator (2) marked by pride (v36) - B Antiochus worshipped Greek gods, he never magnified himself above every god (3) marked by profanity (v36) (4) marked by perversion (v37) a) no proper perspective of family b) no desire for women c) no regard for any god (5) marked by power (v37b-39) A God of Fortresses Hab 1: 11 describes Babylon as those whose "trength is their God". Babylon the Great will also rely on its military strength its economic power. Pagans have always honoured their gods by costly stones, making them images of precious metals, but Anti-Christ will honour his by the expenditure of such valuables. Warfare has always been expensive.

The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) 11:39 "And he will take action against the strongest of fortresses with the help of a foreign god; he will give great honor to those who acknowledge him, he will cause them to rule over the many, 11:40 "And Probably as officers in his own government, or as subrulers over ls. will parcel out l for a price. General Policies & Practices: amount of l given as reward would vary with the degree of help rendered & their potential to aid him. at the end time the king of the outh will collide with him, Africans Egypt

The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) the king of the orth will storm against him with chariots, Perhaps Russia with horsemen, with many ships; he will enter countries, overflow them, pass through. 11:41 "He will also enter the Beautiful L, many countries will fall; but these will be rescued out of his h: Because on the outh-east of Israel His Conflicts (v40-45a) v40-1st half of Daniel s 70 th week; near mid-point, see Ezek. 38 & 39 During the first half of Daniel s 70 th Week (Dan.9:27), Arab bloc of nations would seek Russia's help to intervene, lest all hope of ever obtaining the l be lost. Russia would respond favourably in an attempt to offset the rising challenge of Anti-Christ, who would retaliate against such a rival alliance, & the 3-prong struggle is depicted here. According to Ezek.39:2 (KJV), 5/6 of Russian army is destroyed at this time. The Arrogant King (v36-45)

Edom, Moab He will fight with Egypt & Africa on the.w., leaves.e. alone the foremost of the sons of Ammon. 11:42 "Then he will stretch out his h against other countries, the l of Egypt will not escape. 11:43 "But he will gain control over the hidden treasures of gold silver, over all the precious things of Egypt; The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) The Arrogant King (v36-45) His Conflicts (v40-45a)

The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) Libyans Ethiopians will follow at his heels. 11:44 "But rumors from the East from the orth will disturb him, Probably 1/6 of Russia coming back he will go forth with great wrath to destroy As of May 1965, Red Chinas has 200 million soldiers annihilate many. The Arrogant King (v36-45) His Conflicts (v40-45a) At this time, he is supreme master (therefore mid-point of Tribulation Week), he breaks covenant with Jews. ow he is master of the whole world; he feels powerful, bloodthirsty & thinks he's god. He begins to crash against institutions that exist, probably devours harlot now & moves into Israel; seeks world worship, abolishes religion, sets himself up as God.

The Conflicts between the orth & outh / The Arrogant King (Dan 11) 11:45 "And he will pitch the tents of his royal pavilion Mediterranean & Dead eas yet he will come to his end, no one will help him. His condemnation (Rev.19:11ff) - Christ comes & destroys all the godless. His End Foretold (v45b) a symbol for his dominion of Jews & a base for continuing his oppression of the Jews. between the seas Mount Zion the beautiful Holy Mountain; ow he is master of the whole world; he feels powerful, bloodthirsty & thinks he's god. He begins to crash against institutions that exist, probably devours harlot now & moves into Israel; seeks world worship, abolishes religion, sets himself up as God. Anti-Christ will break covenant because (1) he is irritated with the Jews' restored worship of God at Jerusalem, because of his own atheistic devotion to materialism. (2) Israel is a long-sting prize of nations, because of strategic location & Dead ea wealth. (3) He is controlled by atan. The Arrogant King (v36-45) His Conflicts (v40-45a) Israel at deepest point of sorrow & suffering. (Zech.12: Israel redeemed ) (1) probably hear of invasion of a vast horde of 200 mil from far east (Rev.9:16) under leadership of kings of the east (Rev.16:12) who hearing of Anti-Christ's victory over - (Jews) confederacy will wish to challenge him for world leadership. Or (2) probably hear tidings from Israel that his troops, left to rule it, have suffered serious reverses. Zech 13: /3 Jews destroyed 3 Great Lessons: (1) God controls everything - every detail, every ruler. All of them carry out His will. (2) God will purge His people, Israel (Luke 21:28). (3) Christ will triumph & all will be well for the saints of God.
