The Lord Reigns
The LORD reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The LORD has clothed and girded himself with strength; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved. Your throne is established from old; You are from everlasting. The floods have lifted up, O LORD, The floods have lifted up their voice, The floods lift up their pounding waves. More than the sounds of many waters, Than the mighty breakers of the sea, The LORD on high is mighty. Your testimonies are fully confirmed; Holiness befits Your house, O LORD, forevermore.
The LORD reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The LORD has clothed and girded himself with strength; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved.
Your throne is established from old; You are from everlasting. is the first of three psalms that begin with the phrase The LORD reigns. These songs highlight the greatness of God Psalms 93:1; 97:1; 99:1.
The LORD reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The LORD has clothed and girded himself with strength; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved. 12 The LORD reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The LORD has clothed and girded himself with strength; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved. Your throne is established from old; You are from everlasting. The LORD (Yahweh) is sovereign, majestic, powerful, and eternal; the existence and design of the universe proves just how great God is Romans 1:20; Psalm 19:1.
The LORD reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The LORD has clothed and girded himself with strength; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved. Your throne is established from old; You are from everlasting. God is able to do far more than we can imagine. If he created the world and presently reigns over all things, he can do anything Ephesians 3:20; Jeremiah 32:17.
The Jews were not a seafaring people. The waters were therefore viewed with dread and often associated with hostility and chaos Psalm 18:4; Isaiah 17:12 13; Genesis 1:2. The floods have lifted up, O LORD, The floods have lifted up their voice, The floods lift up their pounding waves. More than the sounds of many waters, Than the mighty breakers of the sea, The LORD on high is mighty.
probably uses the figure of floods to describe the problems (enemies) that were encompassing the people of Israel Psalms 94:1 7, 21 23; 97:7, 10. The floods have lifted up, O LORD, The floods have lifted up their voice, The floods lift up their pounding waves. More than the sounds of many waters, Than the mighty breakers of the sea, The LORD on high is mighty.
Yet even when impossible situations rise up against the people of God, the LORD is mightier than the loudest and strongest of enemies Psalms 65:7; 89:9 10; 1 Peter 5:6 11. The floods have lifted up, O LORD, The floods have lifted up their voice, The floods lift up their pounding waves. More than the sounds of many waters, Than the mighty breakers of the sea, The LORD on high is mighty.
The LORD is transcendent, which means he is not confined to time and space, but that does not mean that he is indifferent to our problems here Acts 17:24 28; John 1: Your testimonies are fully confirmed; Holiness befits Your house, O LORD, forevermore.
We know that God will ultimately deliver us from all sources of evil because he is faithful and just. He always keeps his promises and vindicates the righteous Psalm 111:7. Your testimonies are fully confirmed; Holiness befits Your house, O LORD, forevermore.
When we are going through difficulties, God s power in creation and his faithfulness in the word assure us that he is in control and he always rules rightly Proverbs 3:5 6. Your testimonies are fully confirmed; Holiness befits Your house, O LORD, forevermore.
