The crowd could not fit into the room. 3. He and his disciples could not eat. 4. He did not say anything to them without using a parable. 5. The child is not dead. 6. He could not do any miracles there. 7. The people had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened. 8. He could not keep his presence secret. 3 Lesson 17 A declarative sentence makes a statement. It ends with a period. Jesus wept. John 11:35 The heavens declare the glory of God. Psalm 19:1 An interrogative sentence asks a question. It ends with a question mark. What must I do to be saved? Acts 16:30 Exercise A Place a D in the blank if the sentence is declarative. Place an I in the blank if the sentence is interrogative. 1. When evening came, Jesus left the crowd and went into the boat with his disciples 2. Other boats were with him. 3. A furious storm came up, and the waves broke over the boat. 4. The boat was nearly swamped. 5. Jesus was asleep on a cushion. 6. Don t you care about us? 7. We may drown. 8. Jesus got up, rebuked the wind and the waves, and the wind died down. 9. Why are you so afraid? 10. Do you still have no faith? 11. The disciples were terrified. 12. Who is this? 13. Even the wind and the waves obey him. 5 Lesson 19 An imperative sentence gives a command. It ends with a period or an exclamation point. What are some common commands? Clean your room. Make your bed. Bring me a pencil. Give this to your sister. When you have an imperative sentence, write the word you in parenthesis before the sentence and in your diagramming. (You) Clean your room. (You) Make your bed. 6 Lesson 20 An exclamatory sentence shows strong feeling. It ends with an exclamation point. All the people saw it happen and fell on their faces in awed worship, exclaiming, "GOD is the true God! GOD is the true God!" 1 Kings 18:39, the Message An exclamatory sentence is diagrammed just like a declarative sentence. GOD is the true God! Exercise A - Cross out the prepositional phrases, underline the verbs twice, and underline the subjects once. Diagram each sentence. 1. He spoke to his disciples. 2. "Why are you so afraid? 3. 7 Lesson 21 Memorize these common conjunctions. Conjunctions and but or nor for yet so Exercise A Cross out the prepositional phrases, underline the verbs twice, and underline the subjects once. Circle the conjunctions. 1. Moses and Aaron obeyed Yahweh and went to Pharaoh. 2. Aaron threw his staff down in front of Pharaoh and his officials. 3. It became a snake. 4. Pharaoh summoned wise men and sorcerers. 5. The Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts. 6. Each one threw down his staff, and it became a snake. 7.
