1 Volume 16, Issue 4 October 12, 2018 Lustre Christian High School The Bring Your Bible to School Day By Emily Eggar Thursday October 4 th was Bring Your Bible to School Day. Focus on the Family has set up Bring Your Bible to School Day as an encouragement to students who deal with the publicschool scene. This year Sadie Robertson was named as the honorary chair for the event which encourages students to celebrate, and stand up for, their religious freedom. This year, more than half a million students across the country participated in this event. Focus on the Family encourages parents to use this day as a teaching opportunity. Religious freedom is a first amendment right for Americans, a fact some students are unaware of. Many students are under the impression that having their Bibles, or other religious material, in school is against the rules. Unfortunately, schools do not usually clarify the student s right to religious freedom. Focus on the Family, along with Sadie Robertson, have been promoting Bring Your Bible to School Day heavily on social media and on the radio. It is important for students to know that they have every right to have their Bibles in school or wherever they go. Here at LCHS the students are required to have their Bibles with them every day, so Bring Your Bible to School Day was hardly even noticed. However, October 4 th was a good reminder of our right to religious freedom and the role we can play in reaching out to others. After the worship team sang My Lighthouse By Rend Collective. Zach spoke first, delivering a message on the topic of irritation. Zach advised us to not let irritation overtake our lives, saying that it keeps others from seeing Christ in us if we re mad all the time. He said that not once has he come across someone irritable and have Christ be the first thing he noticed in them. He shared how irritation is something everyone struggles with, and that (Chapel continued on page 4)

2 The Tumbleweed Volleyball Action By: Kassie Kirkaldie On Tuesday, October 2 nd, the lady Lion volleyball team traveled down to Wolf Point to take on the WPHS Lady Wolves. Our JV played their C Squad, while the Lions varsity played Wolf Point s JV. Despite the JV s valiant efforts, they were defeated in four games. Our varsity did beat the JV team in three games, however. The overall scores for the match were 25-13, 25-21, and Sadie Brown racked up twelve kills, and she also had one block. Kassie Kirkaldie served up seven aces and had nine digs, and Lily Short had seventeen assists in the match. Two days later on Thursday, October 4 th, the lady Lions hosted the North Country lady Mavericks at home, sending them home defeated. The Lions beat them in three games, the overall scores being 25-11, 25-20, and The individual leaders were the same in each category as the Wolf Point game, Sadie Brown having eleven kills and six blocks, Kassie Kirkaldie having four aces and eighteen digs, and Lily Short having twenty-nine assists. The volleyball team is gearing up to host the Poplar Indians for Senior Night on Tuesday, October 9 th, and they will also head to Scobey on Friday the 12 th, and to Bainville Saturday the 13 th. Show your support for the Lions as district tournaments approach. Go Lions! How WONDERFUL MB Harvest Festival!! By: Gilbert Choi The MB Church Harvest Festival was October 7-9. The speaker was Dr. Cheryl Hauer, who lived in Jerusalem, Israel for ten years, but just moved to Minnesota. She thinks that the weather here is similar to Minnesota, however, Lustre is colder than there. Before the sermon, Brooke Holzrichter prepared the harvest video for us. It looked back on this past farming year. A lot of people did their best for farming. I definitely find that this is wonderful! The MB Church Choir and Page 2 Jr. Choir sang the song for Harvest Festival. Dr. Hauer shared on Sunday, about what the harvest of righteousness. According to Matthew 9:35-38, this verse talks about harvest. If we think about harvest, we will image farming such as, crops. She talked that every harvest is not job, occupation, it is felt overflowing in the gospel. Harvest is not for us, belong to Him. She wanted to share about to celebrate harvest festival, and bring to joy, happy for him. After service, we enjoyed a potluck and then we had a Sunday Afternoon service. Mr. Bulter sang for special music and Dr. Cheryl Hauer shared about praising the Lord. Harvest Festival is areally good time for all of the Lustre community. We were all blessed!

3 Volume 16, Issue 4 New Faces: Doven Birdsbill by Sadie Brown Lots of new students this year have made the trek to Lustre Christian High School. One that I would like to introduce to you in Doven Birdsbill. She comes to Lustre from Wolf Point. Doven s first impressions of high school here in Lustre is that it is small and isolated but everyone is kind and the food is very good. When asked what she looks forward to learning here at LCHS, she responded that she would like to learn more about the Bible. Her favorite meal is chicken alfredo with Caesar salad. She has a few favorite drinks which include sparking water, Dr. Pepper, and lemonade. Doven s favorite color is purple. Doven likes all types of music and doesn t have just one kind of music she likes the best. She has a few things she likes to do in her free time and some of them include eating, sleeping, and watching Netflix. She would like to be an engineer or graphic designer when she grows up. The verse she likes best is John 3:16. Doven s favorite sport is volleyball which she excels at. Doven is a great addition to our student body here at LCHS. Let s all welcome our new freshman. Freshman Interview By: Zach Brown Phumate Tantibanchachai, or Phu for short, is one of the new students. He is a freshman from Merced, California, but was born in Thailand. His first impressions upon coming to Lustre was that it was small and very remote. When asked what he was looking forward to here at Lustre, he said that he wanted to learn more about math, so his fa- vorite class appropriately is his Algebra 1 math class. His favorite food is pretty much any kind of pasta, and his favorite color is red. He loves music; however, he doesn t have a favorite song or artist. In his free time, he likes to play basketball and enjoys collecting shoes, which are mostly basketball shoes. When he grows up he wants to own / run a shoe store, since he likes collecting shoes. His favorite Bible verse is Luke 6:10 which says, He looked around at all of them, and then said to the man stretch out your hand. He did so, and his hand was completely restored. 4 LUSTRE CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL Distinguishing Ungodliness By: Kirubel Legesse On Thursday, September 27, Pastor John was our chapel guest speaker. After the worship team sang Grace Like Rain and Knees to The Earth, Pastor John talked about Psalm 1. He started out telling us to recognize what God is doing in our lives and that we will be unfortunate if we don t walk with God. Next, he gave examples of actions of what ungodly people do, stating that ungodly people deny God in the cause of pride and arrogance. He also talked about ways we could distinguish ungodliness, so that we can avoid being in step with the wicked or ungodly ones. Next, he talked about possible ungodly influences in our lives, such as media and other people that surround us. Instead, of distancing ourselves we should be a positive influence to the people around us. Sometimes bad people turn their lives around, pastor John listed himself among those people. He also gave a reference from the bible strike a scoffer, simple will be prudent Proverbs 19:25). He finished by referencing psalm 1:6, telling us that the Ungodly will perish, but God wants all of us to go to him and turn from our ungodly ways (Ezekiel 33:11). Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. Psalm 1: 1-2 (Chapel continued from page 1) we should try to control it and not let it cover the joy we have in Christ. Sadie gave her message next, delivering on the topic of idolatry. She shared the dictionary definition of idolatry, then compared it to classic Old Testament examples of idolatry, such as the Asherah poles and Baal idols used in Baal worship and the Golden Calf found in the book of Exodus. She surprised us when she warned that idols can be found everywhere in modern times, and are more common than we think. Anything that turns our focus away from God can be considered an idol. Zach and Sadie encouraged us to keep an eye out for some subtle things, namely irritation and idols, that can really turn us or others away from God. We were extremely blessed to hear these messages.
