transform and renew our minds that we may not be conformed to this world but may offer ourselves wholly to you as a living sacrifice through Jesus Christ our Saviour; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. MINISTRY OF THE WORD A reading from the book of Exodus chapter 3 verses 1-15 Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian; he led his flock beyond the wilderness, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of a bush; he looked, and the bush was blazing, yet it was not consumed. Then Moses said, I must turn aside and look at this great sight, and see why the bush is not burned up. When the LORD saw that he had turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, Moses, Moses! And he said, Here I am. Then he said, Come no closer! Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground. He said further, I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God. Then the LORD said, I have observed the misery of my people who are in Egypt; I have heard their cry on account of their taskmasters. Indeed, I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them from the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the country of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. The cry of the Israelites has now come to me; I have also seen how the Egyptians oppress them. So come, I will send you to Pharaoh to bring my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt. But Moses said to God, Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and bring the Israelites out of Egypt? He said, I will be with you; and this shall be the sign for you

that it is I who sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall worship God on this mountain. But Moses said to God, If I come to the Israelites and say to them, The God of your ancestors has sent me to you, and they ask me, What is his name? what shall I say to them? God said to Moses, I AM WHO I AM. He said further, Thus you shall say to the Israelites, I AM has sent me to you. God also said to Moses, Thus you shall say to the Israelites, The LORD, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you : This is my name forever, and this my title for all generations. For the word of the Lord thanks be to God Psalm , O give thanks to the Lord and call upon his name: tell among the peoples what things he has done. Sing to him, O sing praises: and be telling of all his marvellous works. Exult in his holy name: and let those that seek the Lord be joyful in heart. Seek the Lord and his strength: O seek his face continually. Call to mind what wonders he has done: his marvellous acts, and the judgements of his mouth, O seed of Abraham his servant: O children of Jacob his chosen one. Then Israel came into Egypt: and Jacob dwelt in the land of Ham. There the Lord made his people fruitful: too numerous for their enemies,

Whose hearts he turned to hate his people: and to deal deceitfully with his servants. Then he sent Moses his servant: And Aaron whom he had chosen. A reading from the letter of Paul to the Romans chapter 12 verses 9-21 Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honour. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are. Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave room for the wrath of God; for it is written, Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord. No, if your enemies are hungry, feed them; if they are thirsty, give them something to drink; for by doing this you will heap burning coals on their heads. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. For the word of the Lord thanks be to God Gospel hymn 561 Who Would true valour see (Trentham) Take this moment (Woodend) Alleluia Alleluia The word of the Lord endures for ever. The word of the Lord is the good news announced to you. Alleluia

The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Matthew, chapter 16 beginning at the 21 st verse Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ From that time on, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and undergo great suffering at the hands of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, God forbid it, Lord! This must never happen to you. But he turned and said to Peter, Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; for you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things. Then Jesus told his disciples, If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life? Or what will they give in return for their life? For the Son of Man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay everyone for what has been done. Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom. For the Gospel of the Lord praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ The Sermon The affirmation of faith (page 123 of the prayer book) The Prayers of the People The Greeting of Peace

We are the body of Christ His Spirit is with us. The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you. Offertory Hymn 425 Come Spirit Blest (Trentham) The Summons (Woodend) *a collection to assist the mission of God in this parish will be taken up during this hymn Blessed are you Lord God of all creation, through your goodness we have this bread and wine to share. It will be our true food and drink. Blessed be God forever Blessed are you Lord God of all creation, through your goodness we have this money and food to offer; to become your gospel in action in the world. Blessed be God forever THE GREAT THANKSGIVING Please turn to page 128.for ever praising you and singing Holy, holy, holy Lord God of power and might, Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the Highest Blessed is he who comes in the Lord s name Hosanna in the Highest We say together Christ has died

Christ is risen Christ will come again in songs of never ending praise Blessing and honour and glory and power are yours for ever and ever. Amen With our hearts set on the kingdom and our hands open to serve, we pray as Jesus taught us Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen. The Sending out of God s people Almighty and eternal God, may we who have received this sacrament of your Son s body and blood worship you in all we do, proclaim your word to all the world, and live in the power of your Spirit. Most loving God you send us into the world you love. Give us grace to go thankfully and with courage in the power of your Spirit.

The Notices Final Hymn 569 Guide me, O thou great redeemer (Trentham) 738 My Jesus, My saviour (Woodend) A prayer for fathers God bless all the dads: footy-kicking dads and story-telling dads, bath time, bedtime, meal time, school run and middle-of-the-night dads. Bless them with cuddles for their babies, smiles for their toddlers, plenty of time with their big kids, and not too many dad jokes. Bless the granddads and the pops and the uncles, step dads and foster dads, all the men who help children grow up healthy, safe and kind, ready to make the world a better place for everyone. Amen. The Blessing and Dismissal The peace of God which passes all understanding keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Amen Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. In the name of Christ. ***some thoughts from Rev. Mel

Today is Father s Day. The day we set aside to be thankful for our dads, to reflect on what they have taught us, and to think about how their example has influenced our life. My brother Jason is a great Dad. You ve probably all heard me talk about my niece, his daughter, Aurelia (or I have shoved a photo of her in your face at some stage!). Jason is my younger brother and is absolutely besotted with his daughter, and spends every moment of his life making sure that she is loved and looked after. My sister in law Naomi sent me a short video of Jason and Aurelia dancing to the songs from the movie Frozen songs a couple of months ago. Aurelia stopped her dad mid-song to remind him that he should be wearing a Queen Elsa* dress if he was going to sing, so she used her magic powers to imagine up a dress for him. Then the two of them happily sang away until the end of the song. It didn t matter to Jason that he was wearing an imaginary dress, singing and dancing to a Disney song, or that all this was happening in a kitchen in Berwick. What mattered was that Aurelia knew that she could depend on her dad to let her use her imagination; that she could depend on him to sing with her; that she could depend on him to keep going until the end of a very long song (any parent who has watched this movie knows how long those songs are!). She is growing up to be a kind, funny and smart child because her parents encourage her and because she can depend on them. I want to thank all of the dads, uncles, grandads, step dads, foster dads and all those who step up to raise children in loving and dependable homes. I pray for those people who do not have happy memories of their dads or who have not known their dads and feel a loss. I pray that families may be reconciled and at peace, and that we can use the image of a 41 year old man dancing around his kitchen with his daughter as inspiration to begin this peace. Happy father s day, Mel *Queen Elsa is one of the main characters of the movie Frozen.
