4 13 2 Kings 17:13-14 Yet the LORD testified against Israel and against Judah, by all of His prophets, every seer, saying, "Turn from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by My servants the prophets. Nevertheless they would not hear, but stiffened their necks, like the necks of their fathers, who did not believe in the LORD their God

6 Hebrews 11:36-37 Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented--

8 God s charges against His people: they were: a sinful nation a people laden with iniquity a brood of evil doers children who are corrupters they had: forsaken the LORD provoked Him to anger turned away backward

10 God s reaction to their hypocrisy: your sacrifices are futile I have had enough of your offerings I do not delight in what you have given I cannot endure your iniquity My soul hates your celebration of My feasts - they are a trouble to Me - I am weary of bearing them I will hide my eyes from you I will not hear your prayers

11 God s instructions: wash yourselves make yourselves clean put away evil doings learn to do good seek justice rebuke the oppressor defend the fatherless plead for the widow

12 James 1:26-27 If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless. Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

13 Psalm 51:1-4 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; according to the multitude of Your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.
