1 GENESIS 21:12-14, 17-21; 26:2-5, OCTOBER 20, 2013 TRUE OF FALE 1. God told Abraham to hearken to the voice of Sarah. 2. Hagar and her son departed and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba. 3. Abraham gave Hagar bread and water for the journey. 4. When their water supply was gone, Hagar abandoned the child because she did not want to see him die. 5. God did not take care of Ishmael. 6. God heard the cries of Ishmael and Hagar and promised to make a great nation of him. 7. Ishmael continued to live in the wilderness and became an archer. 8. Ishmael eventually married a woman from Jerusalem. 9. Obeying God is not always easy, but it is always wise. 10. God answers those who cry out to Him and rescues them in His time and way. 11. God remembers and keeps His promises even when men do not remember. 12. The Lord did not promise to bless Isaac and his seed. 13. While the covenant was an act of grace, Abraham did not obey the Lord s commands. 14. Isaac s crop prospered in that land, and he grew great. 15. All we have and enjoy is the result of God s grace, for we have nothing whereby to commend ourselves to Him. 16. We should strive to be the kinds of godly servants whom the Lord can point other people to as examples. 17. Not only has God prepared an eternal plan, but He also prepares people to fulfill roles in that plan. 18. We have nothing to fear when we know God hears us. 1

After some time had passed, Sarai felt God had not kept His promise-so she encouraged Abram to conceive a child with Hagar, her maidservant. 3. Later, Sarah conceived (as God has promised) and gave birth to a son, Isaac, which caused him to be favored over Ishmael. 4. Ishmael was rejected but was still blessed by God to become a great nation, because God accepts all people and all people have a role in God s plans. 5.
