The Good Samaritan Luke 10:25-37 October 23, 2011 ON OUR PLATE TODAY Help kids understand: The parable of the Good Samaritan. That the Good Samaritan acted with compassion. That they are called to act with compassion. GAME The children will try to guess which of the 3 cups the ball is hiding under. Place all 3 cups in a row on a table. Show the children the ball and place it under one of the cups. Shuffle the cups around quickly while the children try to watch and follow the cup with the ball hidden under it. After several quick shuffles, the children will answer the following question: Which of these 3 cups do you think the ball is hidden under? After the class has guessed a few times, call on individuals to choose the correct cup. 3 identical plastic cups ping-pong ball In the Bible story we are going to study today, Jesus described 3 different men to an expert in the law, and Jesus asked him, Which of these 3 do you think is the right one? Let s listen to this expert in the law tell about his encounter with Jesus. BIBLE ACCOUNT Download the YouTube video called Good Samaritan submitted by jyrejoice. old tennis shoe YouTube clip (Speaker has used the shoestring to tie an old shoe around his neck like a necklace and sounds disappointed in himself.) Hey there. I bet you re wondering why I m wearing this old shoe around my neck. Well, it certainly isn t the latest fad or fashion sensation. It s a reminder to me. Have you ever stuck your foot in your mouth? (Pretends to stick the old shoe in his mouth.) I didn t really stick my foot Copyright 2010 KidzMatter Ministries Inc. All Rights Reserved. 1

in my mouth that would be pretty disgusting. The phrase sticking your foot in your mouth means that you said something pretty embarrassing that you wish you wouldn t have said. Well, I definitely said something that I wish I wouldn t have! You guys have heard of Jesus, right? He s God s only Son, who came down from heaven, and died on the cross to take away our sins. He s our Savior! Well, I had a really stupid moment and I actually had the nerve to question Jesus! I seriously tried to test Jesus on the words in the Bible! Oh, I know that sounds really dumb now! Now you can see why I wear this smelly thing around my neck! I really stuck my foot in my mouth! If you have a little bit of time, and you don t mind the smell too bad, I ll tell you the entire story. In this town, I am considered an expert of the law. I guess you d say I m pretty smart. I was feeling cocky one day and decided to ask Jesus what I must do to inherit eternal life in heaven. Jesus knew that I was just trying to test him, but He calmly asked me what was written in the Law of Moses. At this point I was feeling pretty good about my answer. I spouted out, Love the Lord our God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself! (In a game show voice.) Ding-dingding! That s correct, Bob! You just earned yourself 100 points! Jesus said that I had answered correctly, but I couldn t leave well enough alone. Here is where the shoe comes into play. I decided to ask another question. I know, it s like throwing a pop quiz at the person who wrote the test! Silly! But the next question I asked was, Who is my neighbor? Jesus is so wise. He again calmly answered me by telling me a parable about a Good Samaritan. Let s watch the entire story together on the screen. Play the YouTube video called Good Samaritan by jyrejoice. At the beginning of the clip, the narrator begins to talk about the expert in the law. Embarrassingly add, Yep, that s me they re talking about! Three people passed by this injured man and only one gave him any help! The Good Samaritan was the good neighbor. I learned my lesson! Who s the neighbor? I am! I must be a neighbor to the people I meet at the grocery store, to the people starving in Africa, to the people in Asia that I ve never met, and to Sally Jones who stole my erasers right out of my desk at school. The big kicker in this story is that Jesus taught me that I yes I need to be the good neighbor to all people! You see, God calls us to be the neighbor. God calls us to care for others like the Samaritan man did! That s why I m going to keep this smelly shoe tied around my neck so I never forget that I am called to be the neighbor! I better get going. I promised a lady in my subdivision that I would help rake her lawn today. (As the expert in the law leaves, he will hold up the old shoe and start singing the State Farm commercial jingle with new words.) Like a good neighbor, I will be there! GAME The Samaritan showed the injured man compassion. Compassion is more than just feeling sorry for someone. It s more than experiencing a terrible ache inside because you hurt about their situation. Compassion moves into action! Compassion hurts so much that it wants to do something to make the situation better or easier to deal with. In our story, the Samaritan took care of the man s physical wounds. Compassion can also be when we take care of feeding someone who is hungry. And that s what we ll do in this game. Divide the kids into groups. At the far end of the room will be condiment cups with a scoop of pudding in them. There will also be a supply of ice cream tester spoons. (You can find these at party supply or restaurant supply stores.) Two people from each group will play at a time. One person in each pair will have their hands tied behind their back with a bandana. At the signal, all the pairs will run to the other end of the room where they will find their cup of pudding and an ice cream tester spoon. The person whose hands are free will feed the pudding to their partner who is tied up. When the cup is empty, a judge will OK it, and the pair returns to their team. The first pair to return will receive 100 points. And then get another 100 points when they answer one of the questions about the story (below). Once all the pairs from a round have returned, the next two people from each group will prepare to go. bandanas condiment cups ice cream tester spoons pudding 2

Added option: Depending on the kind of floor you have, the person who is not tied up can drag the person who is tied up to the pudding. What was the man who was talking to Jesus an expert in? (the law of Moses) What was the first question the expert in the Law of Moses asked Jesus? (What must I do to inherit eternal life in heaven?) What answer did the man give to his own question, What must I do to inherit eternal life in heaven? (Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.) What was the second question the man asked Jesus? (Who is my neighbor?) In the parable Jesus told, what happened to the man as he walked down the road from Jerusalem to Jericho? (Robbers attacked him, beat him, and took his clothes.) Who passed by the half-dead man first? (the priest) What was the priest s reaction to the man lying on the road? (passed by on the other side) Who passed the half-dead man second? (a Levite/a temple worker) What was the Levite s reaction to the man lying on the road? (passed by on the other side) Who was the third man to see the half-dead man lying on the road? (a Samaritan) What did the Samaritan do for the man lying on the road? (bandaged his wounds, took him to an inn, paid money for his care) After the parable, what question did Jesus ask the expert in the Law of Moses? (Which of these 3 do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?) SNACK Each child will need 3 animal cookies to represent the 3 Jewish men involved in the parable, one E.L. Fudge cookie to represent the Good Samaritan, and one foot of fruit by the foot to represent the road. The children will reenact the parable by breaking one animal cookie in half and laying it on the fruit roll-up road. Along comes the first animal cookie, and it goes by on the other side right into the child s mouth. Then, the next animal cookie does the same. Finally, the E.L. Fudge Samaritan comes along to help the broken animal cookie! Put the broken animal cookie on the back of the E.L. Fudge cookies and off they go. E.L.Fudge Original cookies plain animal cookies fruit by the foot MUSIC There used to be a show on television called Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. Mr. Rogers was the star of the show, and he started every program with the same song and the same question Won t you be my neighbor? Let s watch a video of this song together. The YouTube video is called Mister Rogers Neighborhood Introduction Theme Song submitted by KllngSpider. YouTube video clip This is the question Jesus asked the expert in the law, and this is the question that Jesus is asking us today! Won t you be the neighbor? Jesus asks us to be a neighbor to the poor. Jesus asks us to be a neighbor to people who don t believe in Him. Jesus asks us to be a neighbor to old people. Jesus asks us to be a neighbor to people who are disabled. Who else does Jesus ask us to be a neighbor to? Create a list. Personally, who do you think God put on your heart to show His kindness to? What could you do to show God s compassion to that person? 3

MESSAGE There were 4 people in this story. Let s see what we can learn from these 4 very different people. (show slide #1) The man PowerPoint slides Bibles The man was minding his own business, traveling down the road. Knowing that it was a dangerous road, he probably should ve taken someone along with him, but he didn t. The robbers who jumped him weren t waiting for him, in particular; they were going to rob whoever came down the road next. When something bad happens to someone, do you sometimes think that they deserved it, because they shouldn t have been doing what they were doing in the first place? (show slide #2) The priest Read Luke 10:31. The priest that was on the road was supposed to be a representative of God. He was coming from Jerusalem, which means he was probably just finishing up some type of service in the house of the Lord. He had responsibilities in the temple of God. This man should have represented God s mercy and compassion, but he didn t. He passed the injured man by walking on the other side of the road. He acted holy when he was at his job in the temple, but he sure didn t act it here on the road. Does this ever happen to you? On the way to church you and your sibling, or some other family member, are fighting. When you get to church, you walk into the building with a smile on your face and are kind to every person you see. Then, when you get back into your car after church, you and your brother or sister start fighting again. How does this situation remind you of the priest s behavior? (show slide #3) The Levite Read Luke 10:32. A Levite man passed by the injured person too. A Levite was an assistant to the priests or a temple worker. This man would also have been well versed in the Law, and known as a follower of God. But this man passed by on the other side. He completely missed his opportunity to be the hands of God. When you see someone in need, do you jump in and help? Or do you often let another person do the job? What are some excuses why people don t always jump in and help another person? (No time, not my business, embarrassed, don t want to give any money) Read Hebrews 13:2. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. Can you imagine that? Some people that God puts in your path for you to help and serve may not even be people, but angels? That is quite an amazing thought! Do not pass by on the other side! Look for opportunities to help others! (show slide #4) The unlikely rescuer! Read Luke 10: List all of the things that the Samaritan man did for the injured person (took pity, bandaged wounds, poured oil and wine on wounds, gave him a ride on his donkey, took him to the inn, gave his own money, and returned to check up on him). Wow! That s quite a list! I d say the Samaritan went above and beyond being helpful, wouldn t you? There is something that you should know about the injured man that makes this parable even more amazing. The man left on the road half dead was a Jewish man. Samaritans hated Jewish people! And Jewish people hated Samaritans! The Jewish priest passed the injured Jewish man. The Levite was a Jew, and he passed the injured Jewish man. BUT the Samaritan man stopped and helped. That just didn t 4

happen they hated each other! Jews never wanted to help Samaritans and Samaritans never wanted to help Jews. Culturally, it would have been unthinkable for a Samaritan to help a Jew. What is more comfortable for you to help out a good friend who is in need, or to help out a total stranger? Why? Jesus makes a point in this parable that we are called to show care and compassion to ALL people, not just to the ones who we are comfortable serving. We ve been throwing around a big word today COMPASSION. So, what is it? Do you ever see a commercial on TV where they re raising money for hungry kids in Ethiopia or to get treatment for little kids with cancer at a hospital? It makes you feel sad to watch that. Sometimes, it even makes you cry to think that someone is hurting that badly. That feeling is part of compassion, but only part. Compassion has a second step and that is when we DO something. When you provide food for that hungry kid or when you go pull a sick child around the hospital in a wagon, you re doing something to help ease their pain and their situation. That s compassion! Read Luke 6: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. How did the Samaritan live out this scripture? How can you live out this scripture? OBJECT LESSON Choose 3 kids to stand up front with you. One will hold the empty plate and cup; one will put on the torn t-shirt, and one will carry an empty backpack. Approach the first child, and speak in a sad voice. Look at Johnny. He has empty dishes with no food to eat. I feel so sorry for him! I sure hope somebody gives him some food to eat. Approach the second child. And look at Susie. Her clothes are so old and torn. I feel sad for her, and I m going to pray that someone gives her a warm coat before winter comes. Approach the third child and peek in his backpack. Here s Timmy. He doesn t have any school supplies in his backpack. I sure hope someone buys some supplies for him before school starts. I see all three of these kids and I notice their different needs. I really do feel sad for them and I really do want someone to help them. However, if I m not the one who helps them, I m really just like the priest and the Levite in the parable of the Good Samaritan. Jesus said that the priest and the Levite passed by on the other side of the road. If I just hope someone else will feed Johnny, clothe Susie, and fill Timmy s backpack, I m really just passing by on the other side of the road. plate cup torn t-shirt backpack plastic food nice coat school supplies Bibles Well, I don t want to be the one who just passes by on the other side of the road. Do you? I want to be the one who acts, the one who serves, and the one who helps! Let s read Luke 10:37b together. These are the last words that Jesus spoke to the expert in the law of Moses. Jesus told him, Go and do likewise. Jesus told the expert lawyer to go and be like the Good Samaritan. Go and Do! Go and Act! Get off the other side of the road! Well, I m gonna get off the other side of the road! Walk over to the first child and fill his dishes with the food. Next, walk over to the second child and put a nice coat on her. Last, walk over to the third child and fill his backpack with school supplies. ACTIVITY VIDEO Download the YouTube video, Secret Millionaire John Feber WingClips MEDIUM, submitted by ylslmlke. 6 Read James 1:22, Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. DO WHAT IT SAYS. We ve talked about the Good Samaritan and how he showed God s love, compassion, and mercy to an injured Jewish man. We ve talked about how we need to show God s love to others. We ve talked about Jesus words go and do likewise. But this verse in James does not even mention the word talk. It says to DO! Let s watch a video clip that shows a man who DOES what God s Word says! Play the video. What caused the man to give up his shoes? (compassion) How does the man who gave up the shoes on his feet resemble the Good Samaritan? How does the man who gave up his shoes remind you of the verse we just read, James 1:22? What do you think you would ve done if you were put in that same situation? OBJECT LESSON Place a clear vase in the middle of a large flat pan. Set a pitcher full of water next to the pan. You will need some toys representing people, such as Lego people, small dolls, army men, or Barbies. Place the different dolls and action figures around the vase. As you put each person in the pan explain who each one represents. For example say, This is my next door neighbor, Julie. She is a busy mom and has very little time for relaxation. This is William. He lives in Honduras and is extremely poor. Sometimes he doesn t even have any food to eat. This is Johnny, my little brother. He doesn t have any friends in the neighborhood to play with. The empty glass represents you, and the pitcher of water represents compassion that God puts in us. large flat pan pitcher of water clear vase toys representing people I want to show compassion to the people all around me, but I know that compassion comes from God. The more time I spend reading God s Word, the more I become like Him, and the more compassion I have for others. Fill the vase halfway to the top with water. The more time I spend in prayer with God, the more compassion I have for others. Fill the vase almost to the top with the water. The more time I spend going to church and hanging out with godly friends, the more I am filled with God s compassion! Fill the vase with the entire pitcher of water until it is completely overflowing. In fact, when I am overflowing with God s compassion, I am having a wonderful effect on all the people around me even people on the other side of the world! You see, when I m overflowing with God s compassion, things change, because I m DOING something! I am now mowing my neighbor Julie s lawn so she can have a little time for herself. I am saving up money to help feed William in Honduras. And I am taking some time out of each day to play with my little brother Johnny. Jesus told the Good Samaritan to go and do likewise. And that is exactly what I want to do! What about you? How could you show compassion to someone? How can you go and do likewise? ACTIVITY Fold 8½ x 11 pieces of cardstock in half to make table tents. You will need about a dozen of these. Let s name some things that you ve noticed that tell you someone needs help or is hurting. What hurts your heart to see someone going through? Maybe another way to ask this same question is to say, If you had $1,000 to give to someone to help them, who would you give it to and why? As the kids contribute their suggestions, list them on a white board where everyone can see. Here are some for consideration: an organization that gives Bibles away, support of an orphan child, the homeless man standing on the corner with a cardboard sign, a kid who needs a brain operation, a boy who can t afford to go to summer camp, a friend in your class who doesn t have a winter coat, a farmer whose crops were destroyed by flood, a man who has lost his job, someone who needs a hearing aid. Monopoly money cardstock wide black marker Choose 12 of the suggestions and write them on the cardstock table tents. Place them in various places around 6

the room. Give each child $1000 in Monopoly money. If you don t have Monopoly money, then cut up some different colors of paper and indicate their amounts. Give the kids an opportunity to evaluate how they will contribute their play money by the compassion they have towards the various issues, and then walk around and place their money all in one place or in different places. When everyone has given their $1,000 away, go through the table tents and point out what the children connected with. All of these causes are things that we should be concerned about and have compassion for. You can t do it all. I can t do it all. But look what happened when we all gave some. We all DID something. And, when we all DO something, because of the compassion God puts in us, we are the hands and feet of Jesus. Things will change when we have compassion! GAME Set a suitcase full of one complete outfit next to you while speaking. Look up and read together Colossians 3:12. As God s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. When you get up in the morning, how do you get dressed? You purposely pick out your clothes, and you purposely put them on. This scripture (repeat it) is telling us to purposely pick out of our closets some compassion (hold up shirt), to purposely pick out of our closets some kindness (hold up shorts), to purposely pick out of our closets some humility (hold up hat), and to purposely pick out of our closets some gentleness and patience (hold up the gloves)! This scripture also tells us to put these good things on! I am going to purposely put on compassion (put on shirt). I am going to purposely put on kindness (put on shorts). I am going to purposely put on humility (put on hat). And I m going to purposely put on some gentleness and patience (put on both gloves). Then, remembering what Jesus said in the parable of the Good Samaritan Go and do likewise, I m going to go and serve others! (put on shoes) large shoes large shorts large shirts large gloves large hats suitcases Divide the children into equal relay teams. Line the teams up at one end of the play area. Give each team a suitcase with a complete outfit in it. At the signal the first players for each team will open the suitcases, clothe themselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and the shoes to go and do likewise. As they put on the shirt, they must say Compassion. As they put on the shorts, they must say Kindness. And so on with each piece. When they put on the shoes, they will say, Go and do likewise! Then, they will run to the opposite wall in the play area, touch it, and run back to their lines. Finally, they will remove all of the play clothes, place them in the suitcases, and high five the next child in line. The first team to have all members complete this task is the winner! PRAYER The kids will stand in a circle. Look around the circle at the people who are really good friends and those who you hardly know. Some people right here in this circle are going through some difficult things this very week. All of you, at one time or another in your lives, will go through something difficult. You ll find out that when others have compassion on your situation, it s easier to get through it. That s one reason God wants us to show compassion. You ll also find out that when you show compassion for someone else, your world gets bigger and fuller. That s another reason God wants us to show compassion. In our prayer time today, we re each going to pray a prayer of commitment to show compassion for your neighbor. Sometimes your neighbor is the person living next door. Sometimes it s someone in your town. Sometimes your neighbor actually lives on the other side of the world. And, sometimes your neighbor is someone you don t even like. Your neighbor is anyone you know about. The leader will pray, God, help me show compassion for my neighbor. Then, they will take the hand of the person to their left. That person will then pray, God, help me show compassion for my neighbor and grab the hand of the person on their left. Continue around the circle as each child prays this prayer of commitment. If you have a large group of children, you may want to break into smaller groups and indicate a leader for each group. 7

TAKE HOME REMINDER Give each kid a Band-Aid. They will take it out of the paper package. Then, they ll use a fine-point permanent marker to write one situation on the Band-Aid that they want to pray about and think about how they could DO something. These can be from the list you generated on the white board and the cardstock table tents from the previous activity or something new they think of. Once the ink is dry, the kids can stick the Band-Aid on their arm. Bandaids fine-point permanent markers BLESSING May you be blessed with God s compassion to go and do likewise. EXTRA ACTIVITIES SCRIPTURE MEMORIZATION Hebrews 4:13 (GNT) There is nothing that can be hid from God; everything in all creation is exposed and lies open before his eyes. And it is to him that we must all give an account of ourselves. large shoes traffic cones PowerPoint slide There is an old saying, Don t criticize a man until you walk a mile in his shoes. That just means that we don t really understand what a person is going through until we ve gone through it ourselves. When we walk in someone else s shoes, we feel compassion for them. There is one pair of shoes that we ve all walked in. The one thing that we ve all experienced is disobeying God. When someone is still trying to hide their sin from God, we know how that feels, because we ve been in those shoes we ve tried to hide our sin, too. Form small teams of 4-6 players. Set up some traffic cones (or other obstacles) throughout your room. You ll need the largest pairs of men s shoes you can find one pair for each group. The first player from each group will put a pair of the shoes on. At the signal, all the players wearing shoes will have to walk through the obstacle course without losing their shoes. When they return to their team, they will lead their team in saying the scripture memory verse, and then high-five the next player. They will take off the shoes and pass them to the next player who will walk through the course in the big shoes. Each time a player returns to their group, they will lead them in reciting the scripture together. ACTIVITY Put the half-cup of cooked rice in the small bowl and show this to the children. Make sure they all get a good look at how much is in the bowl. Do you notice anything that s missing from this dinner meal? (meat, vegetables, a spoon) In some countries in our world, this would be all that you d get for your supper. In some countries, this might be all the food you get in an entire day. And, in some countries, what is unimaginably sad, is that this may be all you get to eat in several days! 1/2 cup of cooked rice small bowls Rice Bowls from ricebowls.com How do you think these people feel when they look at their little bowl of rice? How do you think they feel when they find out how much we have to eat? How does it make you feel to know that there are people in this world who have so little to eat? How could we show compassion and put our feelings into action? 8

Be challenged to DO something. We recommend a group called ricebowls.com, because kids really connect with this little bit of rice to eat. Make contact through ricebowls.com and they will send you rice bowl containers/banks for free. Help your kids think of creative ways they could raise money to fill their rice bowls, and then send what you have collected back to Rice Bowls. They will use the money to feed orphans in Third World countries. KNOW YOUR BIBLE When the Good Samaritan saw the injured man, he didn t stop to think who this person was. He didn t stop to see if the man had money to pay for his care. And he didn t stop to see if anyone was watching him do the good deed. The Good Samaritan had immediate compassion for a complete stranger. Jesus told the expert of the law that this Good Samaritan had a heart FULL of compassion! When your heart is full of compassion you have a desire to help others. When your heart is FULL of compassion you have a desire to be kind to all people, even people who are not kind to you. Let s look in our Bibles and read more about compassion. Bibles Read Ephesians 4:32, Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Do you think that you are a kind and compassionate person to all people, or just to the people you are close to? When someone hurts you, do you forgive them quickly, or do you hold a grudge and stay angry? Christ forgives you as soon as you ask for forgiveness. Read Micah 7:18b, You delight to show mercy. God delights in showing you His mercy. It makes Him happy and joyful to show you mercy. How do you feel when you show kindness to someone? How do you feel when you forgive someone versus your feelings when you hold on to anger toward someone? Read James 5:11b, The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. This tells us that the Lord is overflowing with compassion and mercy. He is full of compassion and mercy and never runs out! We want to be overflowing with compassion and mercy. MUSIC We have provided you with two songs by Yancy, a wonderful contemporary Christian artist who writes songs that kids relate to. (Don t hesitate to use animals to play these parts.) The child is in his room. He s built a very cool Lego creation and is sharing the details of the creation with the kids in the audience. two puppets Legos pot lids #1: (talking to kids in the audience) I got home from puppet school today and went right to work on this cool creation. Look at the base of this thing. And look at these turrets! Sweet! I think that I ve been in here for 2 or 3 hours! #2: (yelling from back stage) I need you to take out the garbage now. 9

#1: (yelling back) Yeah sure thing, mom. I ll get right on it. (focuses back at the audience) Anyways, I used the color red here, because I thought that it stood out better than the other colors. Pretty cool, huh? (adds a few more pieces) Can anyone out there help me a minute? Yeah? Cool! How about you? (points to audience member to come up front) Can you add this piece to the very top? I m having trouble reaching way up there. I m stuffed and made of cloth, ya know! Thanks! You can sit down now. I think that this creation is done and absolutely perfect! (A loud commotion comes from back stage and mother screams. She comes into his room completely disheveled with some garbage on her head.) #2: I told you to take out the garbage! #1: Mom! What on earth happened to you? #2: I tripped over the garbage can, that s what happened to me! The garbage that you said I believe word-for-word was Yeah sure thing mom. I ll get right on it. #1: Oh mom, it s a good thing that you re filled with stuffing. I m so sorry. I forgot to take it out, because I was so focused on building this Lego tower. #2: I can see that, but you said you would take it out, and now it s just a big mess all over the kitchen floor. #1: I ll go clean it up really quick! #2: Yes, you will clean it up, but not before we have a little talk. #1: Oh bummer am I grounded? #2: No, but I want you to learn a lesson about being a doer. #1: About being a what? #2: A doer. You see, God wants us to be doers while we re here on this earth. Do you remember the story of the Good Samaritan from Sunday school? #1: Yeah! Those 2 dudes didn t help that injured puppet at all, and then along comes a Samaritan. He was supposed to hate the injured puppet, but he was the one who helped him when he needed help. (pauses and looks proud of himself) Boy, did I just ace that test or what? Totally cool story! #2: So which guy in the story was the doer? #1: Puppet hands down. No contest. Completely the third dude the Samaritan! #2: Exactly! He saw a need and did something about it. I needed you today, but you ignored my need and I ended up spreading the trash all over the kitchen! #1: Ooohhh, I get it! I guess I was just like the two guys that passed by on the other side of the road, wasn t I? I talked the talk, but I didn t walk the walk. I m sorry, Mom. I m gonna go clean it up right now! #2: I forgive you, but we need to make it a point to be a doer when some puppet needs help. #1: Gotcha mom! Lesson learned! That s me from now on Mr. Doer! (continues to rename himself from backstage) Mr. Get-the-Job-Done-Right! Mr. I m-right-on-it! Mr. I m-the-man-for-the-job! Mr. I-Got-Your- Back! Mr. Puppet-at-Your-Service! 10
