1 Trusting in God A Bible Study for Children The purpose of this Bible study is to teach children their need to trust in our great and wonderful God in a personal, individual way. Children can use this for personal devotions in the morning, then parents can use it as a review guide for family devotions in the evening. Day 1 Waiting for God (Psalm 40:1) Day 2 Rescued by God (Psalm 40:2) Day 3 Songs from God (Psalm 40:3) Day 4 Believing God (Psalm 40:4) Day 5 Praising God (Psalm 40:5)

2 Day 1 Waiting for God (Psalm 40:1) Read your memory passage out loud one time to one of your parents: Psalm 40:1-5. Then read it two more times out loud. 1. We do not like to wait a long time for things. What are some things that you have to wait a long time for sometimes? 2. Sometimes you need help because you have something very hard to do or something that is scary to you. Do you ever say help!? Sometimes you have to pray to God that way and you have to wait for him to help. Follow this maze from the beginning to where someone is calling for help. How long does it take to get there? HELP! START 4. God hears you when you pray to him. But sometimes you have to wait longer than you want to. Be patient. God will answer your prayer at just the right time. Ask God to help you be patient when you pray to him.

3 Day 2 Rescued by God (Psalm 40:2) Read your memory passage out loud three times: Psalm 40: Have you ever had something happen to you that was scary or was very hard to figure out and you really needed help? What was it? 2. Draw a picture of a boy or girl in the pit. Then draw a picture of someone who is bigger and stronger to rescue them and put them back up on the solid ground. How will they rescue them? Can you draw that, too? 3. No matter how hard or how scary your problems may be sometimes, you can always know that God will be there to rescue you. Just call out to him in prayer and wait for him patiently. Pray that he will help you remember to call out to him when you need help.

4 Day 3 Songs from God (Psalm 40:3) Read your memory passage out loud three times: Psalm 40: When God works out a hard situation for you and gives you the help that you needed and were waiting for, how do you feel? 2. Another thing that happens when God saves you from something is that he gives you a song. You feel like singing to him! In the music sheets below, write the name of three songs that you like to sing to praise God. 3. Sing one of these songs together with your mother or father. Then circle any of these songs if you sing them later in the day when you are around your home, at school, on the playground, or walking outside. Don t be afraid to sing when other people hear you! 4. Pray that God will give you some songs in your heart to sing about him today.

5 Day 4 Believing God (Psalm 40:4) Read your memory passage out loud two times: Psalm 40:1-5. Then say it to someone who can check for mistakes. 1. One of the important things to know in life is who to believe, especially when you need help. Should you believe what God says in the Bible? Or should you believe what other people tell you? Color the right one. 2. Sometimes people are proud. That means that they are trusting in themselves because they think that they know more than God. How can you tell if someone is proud? Can you draw a face that looks proud? 3. Sometimes people are telling a lie. That means that they know what is right, but they are saying something else because they don t like what is right. How can you tell if someone is telling you a lie? Can you draw a face of someone who is telling a lie? 4. Ask God to help you trust in him by believing and doing what the Bible says, and not what other people say to you when they are proud and telling a lie.

6 Day 5 Praising God (Psalm 40:5) Read your memory passage out loud three times: Psalm 40:1-5. Then color the trophy when you can say it with no mistakes! 1. Did you know that praising God is more than singing songs? You can praise God by counting. But how can you do that? 2. The Bible says that God does many wonderful works. Can you color this picture of the kind of wonderful things that God has done? While you color it, can you say some other amazing things that God has done? 3. God has more things that works that he does. He also has a lot of thoughts. And he even has a lot of thoughts about you every day, more than you can count? What is the biggest number you can think of? Can you write it down? 4. Pray and thank God for some of the amazing things that he has done. And thank him for all of the thoughts that he has for you every day.
