1 The Fear of The Lord - Fountain of Life The Fountain of Life The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. (Proverbs 14:27) And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. (Exodus 20:20) Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee. (Proverbs 16:6) The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. (Proverbs 8:13) The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. (Proverbs 1:7) Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith. (Proverbs 15:16) The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom. (Proverbs 15:33) By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life. (Proverbs 22:4) But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple. (Psalm 5:7) O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. (Psalm 34:9) Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land. (Psalm 111:5) In the fear of the LORD is strong confi dence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. (Proverbs 14:26) The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfi ed; he shall not be visited with evil. (Proverbs 19:23) The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant. (Psalm 25:14) Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men! 4 The Fear of The Lord - Fountain of Life Pt 2 The Benefits of The Fear of The Lord For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. (Psalm 103:11) Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. (Psalm 103:13) The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy. (Psalm 147:11) Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name. And they shall be mine, saith the LORD...(Malachi 3:16-17) He will bless them that fear the LORD, both small and great. The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children. (Psalm 115:13-14) O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever! (Deuteronomy 5:29) If ye will fear the LORD, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the LORD your God. 6 Part 2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: (Isaiah 11:2-3) Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14) And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. (Acts 5:5) And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them. And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women. 7 The Fear of The Lord - Fountain of Life Pt 3 The Fountain of Life The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. (Proverbs 14:26-27) And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites: And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them: That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children... (Deuteronomy 17:18-20) When all Israel is come to appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose, thou shalt read this law before all Israel in their hearing. Gather the people together, men, and women, and children, and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the LORD your God, and observe to do all the words of this law: And that their children, which have not known any thing, may hear, and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as ye live in the land whither ye go over Jordan to possess it. 8 Part 3 And the LORD heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me; and the LORD said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken. O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever! (Deuteronomy 5:28-29) Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths: I am the LORD your God. (Leviticus 19:3) Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. (Romans 13:1-7) Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee. Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him. According to their deeds, accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompence to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompence. So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him. (Isaiah 59:17-19) Thou, even thou, art to be feared: and who may stand in thy sight when once thou art angry? (Psalm 76:7) For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (Hebrews 10:30-31) Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.
