The Glorious Mysteries 1. 1st Glorious Mystery - The Resurrection a. At this the Jews answered and said to him, What sign can you show us for doing this? Jesus answered and said to them, Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up. (John 2:18-19*) b. The Jews said, This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and you will raise it up in three days? (John 2:20*) c. But at daybreak on the first day of the week they took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. (Luke 24:1*) d. Lead my soul from prison, that I may give thanks to your name. Then the righteous shall gather around me because you have been good to me. (Psalm 142:8*) e. Very early when the sun had risen, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb. They were saying to one another, Who will roll back the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb? (Mark 16:2-3*) f. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, approached, rolled back the stone, and sat upon it. (Matthew 28:2*) g. His appearance was like lightning and his clothing was white as snow. The guards were shaken with fear of him

and became like dead men. (Matthew 28:3-4*) h. May God arise; may his enemies be scattered; may those who hate him flee before him. (Psalm 68:2*) i. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb; but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. (Luke 24:2-3*) j. While they were puzzling over this, behold, two men in dazzling garments appeared to them. (Luke 24:4*) k. They were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground. They said to them, Why do you seek the living one among the dead? He is not here, but he has been raised. (Luke 24:5-6*) l. Then the angel said to the women in reply, Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. (Matthew 28:5-6*) m. Remember what he said to you while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners and be crucified, and rise on the third day. And they remembered his words. (Luke 24:7-8*) n. He said to them, Do not be amazed! You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Behold, the place where they laid him. But go and tell his disciples and Peter, He is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him, as he told you. (Mark 16:6-7*) o. Therefore, since it is the Creator of the universe who shaped the beginning of humankind and brought about the origin of everything, he, in his mercy, will give you back both breath and life, because you now disregard yourselves for the sake of his law. (2 Maccabees 7:23*)

p. Then they went away quickly from the tomb, fearful yet overjoyed, and ran to announce this to his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them on their way and greeted them. They approached, embraced his feet, and did him homage. (Matthew 28:8-9*) q. Then Jesus said to them, Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me. (Matthew 28:10*) r. Then they returned from the tomb and announced all these things to the eleven and to all the others. The women were Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James; the others who accompanied them also told this to the apostles, (Luke 24:9-10*) s. Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices; you will grieve, but your grief will become joy. (John 16:20*) t. Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. (Matthew 5:4*) u. She went and told his companions who were mourning and weeping. When they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they did not believe. (Mark 16:10-11*) v. [But] later, as the eleven were at table, he appeared to them and rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart because they had not believed those who saw him after he had been raised. (Mark 16:14*) w. But Peter got up and ran to the tomb, bent down, and saw the burial cloths alone; then he went home amazed at what had happened. (Luke 24:12*) x. Now that very day two of them were going to a village seven miles from Jerusalem called Emmaus, and they were conversing about all the things that had occurred. (Luke 24:13-14*)

y. What then should I do when God rises up? What could I answer when he demands an account? Did not he who made me in the belly make him? Did not the same One fashion us in the womb? (Job 31:14-15*) z. And it happened that while they were conversing and debating, Jesus himself drew near and walked with them, but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him. (Luke 24:15-16*) aa. He asked them, What are you discussing as you walk along? They stopped, looking downcast. One of them, named Cleopas, said to him in reply, Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know of the things that have taken place there in these days? (Luke 24:17-18*) bb. So you also are now in anguish. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you. (John 16:22*) cc. And he replied to them, What sort of things? They said to him, The things that happened to Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, how our chief priests and rulers both handed him over to a sentence of death and crucified him. (Luke 24:19-20*) dd. But we were hoping that he would be the one to redeem Israel; and besides all this, it is now the third day since this took place. (Luke 24:21*) ee. Some women from our group, however, have astounded us: they were at the tomb early in the morning and did not find his body; they came back and reported that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who announced that he was alive. (Luke 24:22-23*) ff. And he said to them, Oh, how foolish you are! How slow of heart to believe all

that the prophets spoke! Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and enter into his glory? (Luke 24:25-26*) gg. Jesus told her, I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, (John 11:25*) hh. and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this? (John 11:26*) ii. Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them what referred to him in all the scriptures. (Luke 24:27*) jj. And it happened that, while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight. (Luke 24:30-31*) kk. Then they said to each other, Were not our hearts burning [within us] while he spoke to us on the way and opened the scriptures to us? (Luke 24:32*) ll. So they set out at once and returned to Jerusalem where they found gathered together the eleven and those with them who were saying, The Lord has truly been raised and has appeared to Simon! (Luke 24:33-34*) mm. Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way and how he was made known to them in the breaking of the bread. (Luke 24:35*) nn. I have told you this so that you might have peace in me. In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world. (John 16:33*) oo. While they were still speaking about this, he stood in their midst and said to them, Peace be with you. But they were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a ghost. (Luke 24:36-37*)

pp. Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have. And as he said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. (Luke 24:39-40*) qq. While they were still incredulous for joy and were amazed, he asked them, Have you anything here to eat? (Luke 24:41*) rr. So you also are now in anguish. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you. (John 16:22*) ss. He said to them, These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and in the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled. (Luke 24:44*) tt. And he said to them, Thus it is written that the Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. (Luke 24:46-47*) 2. 2nd Glorious Mystery - The Ascension a. What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life. (John 6:62-63*) b. So now bless the Lord on earth and give thanks to God. Look, I am ascending to the one who sent me. Write down all that has happened to you. And he ascended. (Tobit 12:20*) c. Jesus said to her, Stop holding on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and tell them, I am going to my Father and your

Father, to my God and your God. (John 20:17*) d. Then he led them [out] as far as Bethany, raised his hands, and blessed them. As he blessed them he parted from them and was taken up to heaven (Luke 24:50-51*) e. She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod. Her child was caught up to God and his throne (Revelation 12:5*) f. Then Jesus approached and said to them, All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. (Matthew 28:18*) g. Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? (John 14:1-2*) h. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, (Matthew 28:19*) i. teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age. (Matthew 28:20*) j. A psalm of David. The Lord says to my lord: Sit at my right hand, while I make your enemies your footstool. (Psalm 110:1*) k. But to which of the angels has he ever said: Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool? (Hebrews 1:13*) l. So then the Lord Jesus, after he spoke to them, was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God. (Mark 16:19*) m. For David himself in the Book of Psalms says: The Lord said to my lord, Sit at my right hand (Luke 20:42*)

n. When he had accomplished purification from sins, he took his seat at the right hand of the Majesty on high, as far superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. (Hebrews 1:3b-4*) o. As the visions during the night continued, I saw coming with the clouds of heaven One like a son of man. When he reached the Ancient of Days and was presented before him, (Daniel 7:13*) p. They did him homage and then returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and they were continually in the temple praising God. (Luke 24:52-53*) q. Therefore, it says: He ascended on high and took prisoners captive; he gave gifts to men. (Ephesians 4:8*) r. The one who descended is also the one who ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things. (Ephesians 4:10*) s. For Christ did not enter into a sanctuary made by hands, a copy of the true one, but heaven itself, that he might now appear before God on our behalf. (Hebrews 9:24*) t. Amen, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom. (Matthew 16:28*) u. Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. (Hebrews 4:14*) v. So let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and to find grace for timely help. (Hebrews 4:16*) w. Arise, Lord, come to your resting place, you and your mighty ark. Your priests will be clothed with justice; your devout will shout for joy. (Psalm 132:8-9*)

x. For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the one that is to come. (Hebrews 13:14*) 3. 3rd Glorious Mystery - The Descent of the Holy Spirit Upon the Apostles a. You are witnesses of these things. And [behold] I am sending the promise of my Father upon you; but stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high. (Luke 24:48-49*) b. But a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blossom. The spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him: a spirit of wisdom and of understanding, A spirit of counsel and of strength, a spirit of knowledge and of fear of the Lord, (Isaiah 11:1-2*) c. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows it. But you know it, because it remains with you, and will be in you. (John 14:16-17*) d. All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. (Acts 1:14*) e. When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. (Acts 2:1-2*) f. Send forth your spirit, they are created and you renew the face of the earth. (Psalm 104:30*) g. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them (Acts 2:3*) h. The Lord preceded them, in the daytime by means of a column of cloud to show them the way, and at night by means of

a column of fire to give them light. Thus they could travel both day and night. (Exodus 13:21*) i. To the Israelites the glory of the Lord was seen as a consuming fire on the top of the mountain. (Exodus 24:17*) j. These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages. (Mark 16:17*) k. And they were all filled with the holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. (Acts 2:4*) l. In the same way, the Spirit too comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit itself intercedes with inexpressible groanings. (Romans 8:26*) m. I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. (Ezekiel 36:26*) n. They were astounded, and in amazement they asked, Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them in his own native language? (Acts 2:7-8*) o. both Jews and converts to Judaism, Cretans and Arabs, yet we hear them speaking in our own tongues of the mighty acts of God. (Acts 2:11*) p. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received a spirit of adoption, through which we cry, Abba, Father! The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, (Romans 8:15-16*) q. I will put my spirit within you so that you walk in my statutes, observe my ordinances, and keep them. (Ezekiel 36:27*)

r. They were all astounded and bewildered, and said to one another, What does this mean? (Acts 2:12*) s. It shall come to pass I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. (Joel 3:1*) t. No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: It will come to pass in the last days, God says, that I will pour out a portion of my spirit Upon all flesh. Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams. (Acts 2:16-17*) u. The Lord then came down in the cloud and spoke to him. Taking some of the spirit that was on Moses, he bestowed it on the seventy elders; and as the spirit came to rest on them, they prophesied but did not continue. Now two men, one named Eldad and the other Medad, had remained in the camp, yet the spirit came to rest on them also. They too had been on the list, but had not gone out to the tent; and so they prophesied in the camp. (Numbers 11:25-26*) v. So, when a young man ran and reported to Moses, Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp, Joshua, son of Nun, who from his youth had been Moses aide, said, My lord, Moses, stop them. But Moses answered him, Are you jealous for my sake? If only all the people of the Lord were prophets! If only the Lord would bestow his spirit on them! (Numbers 11:27-29*) w. With all prayer and supplication, pray at every opportunity in the Spirit. To that end, be watchful with all perseverance and supplication for all the holy ones (Ephesians 6:18*)

x. A clean heart create for me, God; renew within me a steadfast spirit. Do not drive me from before your face, nor take from me your holy spirit. (Psalm 51:12-13*) y. In contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23*) z. Jesus answered, Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. What is born of flesh is flesh and what is born of spirit is spirit. (John 3:5-6*) aa. Until the spirit from on high is poured out on us. And the wilderness becomes a garden land and the garden land seems as common as forest. Then judgment will dwell in the wilderness and justice abide in the garden land. (Isaiah 32:15-16*) bb. But the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without inconstancy or insincerity. (James 3:17*) cc. Restore to me the gladness of your salvation; uphold me with a willing spirit. I will teach the wicked your ways, that sinners may return to you. (Psalm 51:14-15*) 4. 4th Glorious Mystery - The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary a. Then God s temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant could be seen in the temple. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings, and peals of thunder, an earthquake, and a violent hailstorm. (Revelation 11:19*) b. He sets up the lowly on high, and those who mourn are raised to safety. (Job 5:11*)

c. Those who respect their father will live a long life; those who obey the Lord honor their mother. (Ben Sira 3:6*) d. My lover speaks and says to me, M Arise, my friend, my beautiful one, and come! (Song of Songs 2:10*) e. The fig tree puts forth its figs, and the vines, in bloom, give forth fragrance. Arise, my friend, my beautiful one, and come! (Song of Songs 2:12-13*) f. The woman herself fled into the desert where she had a place prepared by God, that there she might be taken care of for twelve hundred and sixty days. (Revelation 12:6*) g. Who is this coming up from the desert, leaning upon her lover? Beneath the apple tree I awakened you; there your mother conceived you; there she who bore you conceived. (Song of Songs 8:5*) h. When the dragon saw that it had been thrown down to the earth, it pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child. (Revelation 12:13*) i. But the earth helped the woman and opened its mouth and swallowed the flood that the dragon spewed out of its mouth. (Revelation 12:16*) j. Then the dragon became angry with the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring, those who keep God s commandments and bear witness to Jesus. (Revelation 12:17*) k. And coming to her, he said, Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you. (Luke 1:28*) l. You are beautiful in every way, my friend, there is no flaw in you! (Song of Songs 4:7*)

m. For he has looked upon his handmaid s lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed. (Luke 1:48*) n. (Ben Sira 7:27*) r. While he was speaking, a woman from the crowd called out and said to him, Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed. He replied, Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it. (Luke 11:27-28*) s. My dove in the clefts of the rock, in the secret recesses of the cliff, Let me see your face, let me hear your voice, For your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely. (Song of Songs 2:14*) t. Listen, my daughter, and understand; pay me careful heed. Forget your people and your father s house, that the king might desire your beauty. He is your lord; (Psalm 45:11-12*) u. Then Uzziah said to her, Blessed are you, daughter, by the Most High God, above all the women on earth; and blessed be the Lord God, the creator of heaven and earth, (Judith 13:18*) v. Your deed of hope will never be forgotten by those who recall the might of God. (Judith 13:19*)

w. When they came to her, all with one accord blessed her, saying: You are the glory of Jerusalem! You are the great pride of Israel! You are the great boast of our nation! (Judith 15:9*) x. Yet I will rejoice in the Lord and exult in my saving God. God, my Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet swift as those of deer and enables me to tread upon the heights. (Habakkuk 3:18-19*) 5. 5th Glorious Mystery - The Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary a. Then he said to the disciple, Behold, your mother. And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.
