Women in the Word Proverbs: Learning September 27, Think of a time of great growth and learning in your life. What were the specific circumstances that contributed to your growth? 2. The Proverbs describe an active process of learning and growing. Read the following passages and list the verbs. Proverbs 4:1-4 Proverbs 4:13 Proverbs 4:20-23 Considering these verbs, what can we learn about the learning process? 3. Read Luke 2:52. Describe the areas of Jesus growth. 4. Read the following Proverbs and identify the method of training. Proverbs 15:31-32 Proverbs 19:25 Proverbs 25:12 Proverbs 27:17 Proverbs 10:17
Women In the Word Proverbs: Learning Sept. 27, 2012 Page 2 5. What kind of interaction do you see Jesus having with His followers in the following passages: Matthew 16:21-23 Matthew 26:36-45 Luke 10:38-41 Why do you think Jesus rebukes those He cares about? How would this benefit them? 6. Think of a recent experience when someone corrected you. How did it make you feel? How did you respond both in actions and in attitudes? Be honest with the attitudes. 7. Considering the Proverbs and considering Jesus frequent use of rebuke and correction, describe specific responses to correction you will choose in the future. 8. Read Proverbs 13:10, 11:2, 16:5 and 22:4. What two character traits are identified and what outcomes do they produce? What connection do you see between humility and learning?
Women In the Word Proverbs: Learning Sept. 27, 2012 Page 3 9. Read Proverbs 7:2-3. What is meant by the phrase keep my commands? 10. Read Proverbs 10:17 and 13:1. Define the verb heed and then summarize these verses in your own words. 11. Read Proverbs 22:17-21, 23:12 and 24:32. Define the verb apply and then summarize these verses in your own words. What do these action verbs tell us about learning? 12. Read Luke 6: What is Jesus asking? Jesus says two behaviors are necessary to act in a wise way. What are they? 13. Read Matthew 28: When Jesus commissions His disciples to go into the world and teach, He describes the appropriate response from true learners (disciples). What will their responses be? 14. Based on the truths expressed in Proverbs, are you a learner? In what specific ways are you changing/learning/growing right now? 15. Which proverb from this week s study will you memorize? How will you incorporate it into your daily life? 16. Do you have a personal prayer request to share with your small group?
Women in the Word September 27, 2012 Wise Up! Successful Living from Proverbs Learning: The Path to Heart Transformation My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:1-6 Lifelong Activity Required 1:4-7, 2:1-6, 22:17-21 Learning requires the full use of all our and. Learning provides for our needs and for the. Humility Required 9:7-9, 19:20, 3:11-12, 17:10, 25:12, 28:23 We must recognize our own before we can grow and mature. When responding to correction: remember that is the motivator and is the goal. Knowledge and Experience Required 23:12, 24:23, 4:1-4 To Apply: To make practical and active use of To Keep: To have or maintain for continued use or profit You must what you know! and must be linked. Key: senses, abilities, today, future, incompetence, love, growth, practice, hearing, doing
Women in the Word Proverbs: Learning September 27, 2012 Matthew 22:37-38 Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. Luke 2:52 And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. James 5:20 My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his ways will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins. Luke 6:46 Why do you call me, Lord, Lord, and do not do what I say? I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete. James 1:22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. Luke 9:1-2, and 9:6 When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. (Verse 6)So they set out and went from village to village, preaching the gospel and healing people everywhere. Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Ephesians 4:22-24 You were taught with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
