The Book of Matthew from the Hebraic Perspective {Part 4} Matt. 4:12 Now when Yahusha had heard that Yahuchanan {Yochanan/John} was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee; Matt. 14:3 For Herod had laid hold on Yahuchanan {Yochanan/John}, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias sake, his brother Philip s wife. Matt. 14:4 For Yahuchanan {Yochanan/John} said unto him, It is not lawful for you to have her. Matt. 14:5 And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet. Matt. 14:6 But when Herod s birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod. Matt. 14:7 Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask. Matt. 14:8 And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here Yahuchanan {Yochanan/John} Immerser s head in a charger {plank}. Matt. 14:9 And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath s sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her. Matt. 14:10 And he sent, and beheaded Yahuchanan {Yochanan/John} in the prison. Matt. 14:11 And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother. Matt. 14:12 And his talmadiym {disciples} came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Yahusha. o Herodias, niece of Herod the Great, sister of Agrippa I, and wife not of Antipas s brother Philip but of another half-brother, Herod Boethus. 4: Not lawful, marrying a brother s wife constituted incest (Lev 18.16; 20.21; Deut ; Ant ; cf ). 5: Feared the crowd, Josephus confirms Yahuchanan s popularity. 6: Daughter of Herodias, Josephus names her Salome (Ant ). Matt. 4:13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthaliym: Capernaum meant village of Nahum. Therefore, it may have been the traditional hometown of the prophet. It was located on the Sea of Galilee.

Matt. 4:14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Yashayahu the prophet, saying, Matt. 4:15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthaliym, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; Is. 9:1 Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zabulun and the land of Naphtaliym, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations. Is. 9:2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them has the light shined. John 7:41 Others said, This is the Mashiyach. But some said, Shall Mashiyach come out of Galilee? Galilee means: Circle {Circle of the Gentiles North Palestine} Were there Yahudiym in Galilee? 1Kings 9:10 And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, when Solomon had built the two houses, the house of Yahuah, and the king s house, 1Kings 9:11 (Now Hiram the king of Tyre {region of Palestine} had furnished Solomon with cedar trees and fir trees, and with gold, according to all his desire,) that then king Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

o After the fall of the Northern Kingdom to the Assyria in 722 B.C.E. Gentiles repopulated the area. Yahudiym started filling the place during the time of the Hasmonean Macc. 5:3 The Idumeans {Edomites} were blockading the Israelites, so Yahudah went to war against them at Akrabattene {which lies to the north of Beth-el}, crushed them, and looted them. Macc. 5:4 He also dealt with the people of Baean, who were a constant threat to the people of Yashra al {Yisrael/Israel}, because they would lie in ambush waiting to trap Israelite travelers. Macc. 5:5 He shut the Baeanites up in their forts, took a solemn oath that he would destroy them, and burned their forts with everyone in them. Macc. 5:6 Then he marched against the land of Ammon, where he met a large and powerful army under the command of a man named Timothy. Macc. 5:7 Yahudah won many battles against them and finally defeated them. Macc. 5:8 He captured Yazer and its surrounding villages and then returned to Yahudah. Macc. 5:9 The Gentiles in Gilead assembled to attack and destroy the Israelites living in their territory. But the Israelites fled to the fortress of Dathema Macc. 5:10-11 and sent the following letter to Yahudah and his brothers: The Gentiles around us are joining forces under Timothy. We have fled to this fortress for protection, and now they are getting ready to capture it and destroy us. Macc. 5:12 Many of us have already been killed. Come rescue us! Macc. 5:13 All the Yahudiym men in the region of Tob[a] have been killed, their wives and their children have been taken captive, and their possessions have been carried off. A force of about 1,000 men has been destroyed there. Macc. 5:14 This letter was still being read when other messengers, who had torn their clothes in sorrow, arrived with a report from Galilee. Macc. 5:15 They said, An army from Ptolemais, Tyre, Sidon, and all of Galilee has come together to destroy us. Macc. 5:16 When Yahudah and the people heard all this, a great assembly was held to decide what should be done to help these countrymen, who were in such difficulty under enemy attack. Macc. 5:17 Yahudah said to his brother Simon, Choose some men and go rescue our fellow Yahudiym in Galilee; our brother Yahunathan and I will go to Gilead. Macc. 5:18 Yahudah left the rest of his army to defend Yudea and put the two leaders, Azariyah and Yahuseph son of Zakariyah, in charge of the people. Macc. 5:19 He told them: I am leaving you in command here, but don't go out and fight the Gentiles until we get back. Macc. 5:20 Then 3,000 men joined Simon for the march into Galilee, and 8,000 remained with Yahudah for the march into Gilead. Macc. 5:21 Simon went into Galilee and fought many battles with the Gentiles. He defeated them Macc. 5:22 and pursued them all the way to the city of Ptolemais, killing about 3,000 of them, and taking the loot.

Macc. 5:23 Then he took the Yahudiym who were in Galilee and Arbatta, with their wives, their children, and all they owned, and brought them back to Yudea with him. There was great rejoicing. Matt. 4:16 The people which dwell {sat} in darkness saw great light; and to them which dwell {sat} in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. Psa. 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me. This was a metaphor for danger, a reference to their sin, also a reference to their ignorance Matt. 4:17 From that time Yahusha began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. What did they believe concerning the kingdom to come in the 1 st century? In order to answer this we need to know what they were looking for before Mashiyach came. Is. 4:1 And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by your name, to take away our reproach. Is. 4:2 In that day shall the branch of Yahuah be beautiful and esteemed, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Yashra al {Yisrael/Israel}. Is. 4:3 And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remains in Jerusalem, shall be called set-apart, even every one that is written among the living in Jerusalem: Is. 4:4 When Yahuah shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning. Is. 4:5 And Yahuah will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and

upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the esteem shall be a defense. Is. 4:6 And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain. Psa. 2:6 Yet have I set my king upon my set-apart hill of Zion. Psa. 2:7 I will declare the decree: Yahuah has said unto me, You are my Son; this day have I begotten you. Psa. 2:8 Ask of me, and I shall give you the heathen for your inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for your possession. Psa. 2:9 You shall break them with a rod of iron; you shall dash them in pieces like a potter s vessel. Zech. 1:7 Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month S [h] ebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of Yahuah unto Zakariyah, the son of Berechiyah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying, Zech. 1:8 I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in the bottom; and behind him were there red horses, speckled, and white. Zech. 1:9 Then said I, O aduniy {adoni}, what are these? And the malak {messenger/angel} that talked with me said unto me, I will show you what these be. Zech. 1:10 And the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, These are they whom Yahuah has sent to walk to and fro through the earth. Zech. 1:11 And they answered the malak {messenger/angel} of Yahuah that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sits still, and is at rest. Zech. 1:12 Then the malak {messenger/angel} of Yahuah answered and said, O Yahuah of hosts, how long will you not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Yahudah, against which you have had indignation these threescore and ten years? Zech. 1:13 And Yahuah answered the malak {messenger/angel} that talked with me with good words and comfortable words. Zech. 1:14 So the malak {messenger/angel} that communed with me said unto me, Cry you, saying, Thus says Yahuah of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy. Zech. 1:15 And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction. Zech. 1:16 Therefore thus says Yahuah; I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, says Yahuah of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem. Zech. 1:17 Cry yet, saying, Thus says Yahuah of hosts; My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and Yahuah shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem. In order for these events to happen other things must be in place. If they are not, then another cycle must take place. If no repentance then another cycle {Jubilee cycle if

you will} will take place. Here is an Example: Lev. 26:14 But if you will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments; Lev. 26:15 And if you shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that you will not do all my commandments, but that you break my covenant: Lev. 26:16 I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. Lev. 26:17 And I will set my face against you, and you shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and you shall flee when none pursues you. Lev. 26:18 And if you will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins. Lev. 26:19 And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass: Lev. 26:20 And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits. Lev. 26:21 And if you walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins. Lev. 26:40 If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me; Lev. 26:41 And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity: Lev. 26:42 Then will I remember my covenant with Ya aqub {Ya aqob/jacob}, and also my covenant with Yatskaq {Yitskaq/Isaac}, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land. Lev. 26:43 The land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her shabbaths, while she lies desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised my judgments, and because their soul abhorred my statutes. Setting the conditions Jer. 31:31 Behold, the days come, says Yahuah, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Yashra al {Yisrael/Israel}, and with the house of Yahudah: Jer. 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Mitsraiym {Egypt} ; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, says Yahuah: Jer. 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Yashra al {Yisrael/Israel} ; After those days, says Yahuah, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their Alahiym, and they shall be my people. Jer. 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man

his brother, saying, Know Yahuah: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, says Yahuah: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Jer. 31:35 Thus says Yahuah, which gives the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divides the sea when the waves thereof roar; Yahuah of hosts is his name: Jer. 31:36 If those ordinances depart from before me, says Yahuah, then the seed of Yashra al {Yisrael/Israel} also shall cease from being a nation before me forever. Jer. 31:37 Thus says Yahuah; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Yashra al {Yisrael/Israel} {See Hebrews 8:7-11} for all that they have done, says Yahuah. Ezek. 36:27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my judgments, and do them. Ezek. 36:28 And you shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and you shall be my people, and I will be your Alahiym. Ezek. 36:29 I will also save you from all your uncleannesses: and I will call for the corn, and will increase it, and lay no famine upon you. Ezek. 36:30 And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that you shall receive no more reproach of famine among the heathen. Ezek. 36:31 Then shall you remember your own evil ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall lothe {be grieved} yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations. Ezek. 36:32 Not for your sakes do I this, says Aduniy {Adoni} Yahuah, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house of Yashra al {Yisrael/Israel}. Ezek. 36:33 Thus says Aduniy {Adoni} Yahuah; In the day that I shall have cleansed you from all your iniquities I will also cause you to dwell in the cities, and the wastes shall be built. Ezek. 36:34 And the desolate land shall be tilled, whereas it lay desolate in the sight of all that passed by. Ezek. 36:35 And they shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are become fenced, and are inhabited. Ezek. 36:36 Then the heathen that are left round about you shall know that I Yahuah build the ruined places, and plant that that was desolate: I Yahuah have spoken it, and I will do it. Ezek. 36:37 Thus says Aduniy {Adoni} Yahuah; I will yet for this be enquired of by the house of Yashra al {Yisrael/Israel}, to do it for them; I will increase them with men like a flock. Ezek. 36:38 As the set-apart flock, as the flock of Jerusalem in her solemn feasts; so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men: and they shall know that I am Yahuah. Zech. 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem:

behold, your King comes unto you: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass. Is. 53:1 Who has believed our report? and to whom is the arm of Yahuah revealed? Is. 53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he has no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. Is. 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Is. 53:4 Surely he has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of Alahiym, and afflicted. Is. 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Is. 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and Yahuah has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Is. 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth. Is. 53:8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. Is. 53:9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Is. 53:10 Yet it pleased Yahuah to bruise him; he has put him to grief: when you shall make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Yahuah shall prosper in his hand. Is. 53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. Is. 53:12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he has poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. There must be a death first. He would bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressor. Zech. 12:10 And I will pour upon the house of Dauud {Dawid/David}, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of favor and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

This is just a brief description as to what Yashra al {Yisrael/Israel} was looking for. There are many other scriptures to comb through. Matt. 4:18 And Yahusha, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Kepha {Peter}, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. John 1:44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Kepha {Peter}. {See map above} Matt. 4:19 And he says unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. Matt. 4:20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. Matt. 4:21 And going on from there, he saw other two brethren, Ya aqub {Ya aqob/james} the son of Zebedee, and Yahuchanan {Yochanan/John} his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. Matt. 4:22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him. Matt. 4:23 And Yahusha went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the good-news {gospel} of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. Ezek. 34:1 And the word of Yahuah came unto me, saying, Ezek. 34:2 Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Yashra al {Yisrael/Israel}, prophesy, and say unto them, Thus says Aduniy {Adoni} Yahuah unto the shepherds; Woe be to the shepherds of Yashra al {Yisrael/Israel} that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks? Ezek. 34:3 You eat the fat, and you clothe you with the wool, you kill them that are fed: but you feed not the flock. Ezek. 34:4 The diseased have you not strengthened, neither have you healed that which was sick, neither have you bound up that which was broken, neither have you brought again that which was driven away, neither have you sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have you ruled them. Mashiyach was fulfilling the following things: 1. Teaching Shepherding 2. Healing Disease Sickness 3. Sought that which was lost Lost sheep of the house of Yashra al {Yisrael/Israel} Now this gives us a better picture of what the 1 st century was looking for before the Mashiyach came and when He came. Matt. 4:24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them. Matt. 4:25 And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Yudaea, and from beyond Jordan.
