1 Aim: To appreciate all creatures big and small. Opening Prayer: Bible Passage: Genesis 1:20-25 (NRSV) And God said, Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the dome of the sky. So God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, of every kind, with which the waters swarm, and every winged bird of every kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth. And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day. And God said, Let the earth bring forth living creatures of every kind: cattle and creeping things and wild animals of the earth of every kind. And it was so. God made the wild animals of the earth of every kind, and the cattle of every kind, and everything that creeps upon the ground of every kind. And God saw that it was good. Teacher s Preparation: Choose from any one of the following ideas: 1. Have a poster board ready to display Gods creations for each day. Post pictures of birds, different types of animals (animals with four feet, birds that fly, fishes, animals that live in jungle, water, farm etc.)

2 Teacher s Preparation (cont.): 2. Make a creation mobile from paper plate with 7 holes punched and strings to attach colored in pictures of creation for days 1 through 7. Talk about different animals while eating snack Student Introduction: Start by talking about children s favorite animals/birds that they have seen, touched or ridden on. Emphasize how beautifully God has created each one of them. Main Ideas: God made everything for a purpose. In the beginning, after God made the sun, moon and stars, He made animals that could live in a special garden. He called the garden, the Garden of Eden. He made animals that walk, hop, fly and swim. He also made big animals that were very strong and small, tiny animals that were fast. Every animal, insect, and bird was made for a reason. After he made the animals, he made a man to look after all the animals. God teaches us that we must be kind and respectful to animals. We get food from animals chicken, fish, beef, eggs, and milk. Animals also give us clothes to wear silk from the silkworm and wool from sheep. Help the children appreciate the beauty in them and how God was pleased with His creation.

Review Time: 1. Ask children what their favorite animal or bird is that God has made. 2. Can you make different animal sounds? 3. Can you move like different animals that God made? They are so different.

4 Values for life: Help them to remember God made many beautiful animals for us to look after. He wants us to love them and take care of them. Closing prayer: Heavenly father, thank you for creating animals and birds big and small in this world. Thank you for providing food and shelter for all of the animals and birds. Strengthen me to take good care of your creations. Amen.
