2 About Little Bible Stories A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR: I went to a Christian school for 9 years as a child, from Kindergarten to grade 8. I always loved reading the Bible stories and seeing the art that went with them. They really made it possible for me to connect to the stories. When it came time for Vacation Bible School, I enjoyed doing the activities. As an adult with a young one of my own, I wanted to create something fun to help her and other young children learn these important lessons. Little Bible Stories is it! Each of these simple stories comes with an activity or two. They are designed for grades K-2, with a bit of art that can be fun for even higher grade levels. It s a perfect set of stories for Sunday School, Parochial School, or Vacation Bible School. COPYRIGHT & TERMS OF USE: The designs, layouts, and retelling of the stories are all by Andrew Frinkle. The art comes from a variety of royalty-free sources, primarily from openclipart.org and clipart.christiansunite.com This is a single-user license for home or school. You may copy them as needed for your own personal use. Please do not distribute the materials inside, resell them, or host them on a website without permission of the author. 2
3 The Story of Creation In the beginning, there was only darkness. God had a plan! He would create everything. On the first day, He created light and darkness. On the second day, He separated the sea and sky. On the third day, He separated land and water and made the plants. On the fourth day, He created the sun, moon, and stars. On the fifth day, He created birds and fish. On the sixth day, He created the animals and people. On the seventh day, He saw that everything He d made was good, and He rested. That is why we rest and worship every seven days, too! 3

7 The Story of Adam & Eve God created man. Later, God created a companion for him. He made Eve. Together, they lived in the Garden of Eden. They could live in peace and happiness. They only had one rule: they could not eat from a special tree. The Devil took the form of a snake. He tempted Eve to eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. She ate from the fruit and shared it with Adam. They had disobeyed God! It was the first sin. Adam and Eve hid in the Garden. When God found them and asked Adam about it, he admitted he had eaten from the tree, but he blamed Eve. Eve blamed the snake. God punished them. He made an angel take them out of the Garden of Eden. After that, men and women would have to suffer and work hard to live. 7
8 INSTRUCTIONS: (1) Add glitter to the fruit in the tree. (2) Color the tempting snake. (3) Draw Adam & Eve eating the fruit. 8

11 The Story of Noah s Ark God was not happy with the people of the world. When he looked at them, they were all sinful. Of all the people, there was only one family he wanted to save. He decided to send a flood. He would only save Noah and his family. Noah built a giant ark. It took his family many years to build the ark. When it was done, he began collecting two of each animal. He needed one boy and one girl of every kind! When they finished, it began to rain. It rained until the world was flooded. Only Noah and his family survived. They floated for many days in the ark. They sent out birds to look for land. One day, a bird came back with a branch from a tree! The water was finally going away. When the water finally went away and the ark was on land, they praised God. God had kept his promise to them and saved their family. 11

17 The Story of Lot s Wife Lot was the nephew of Abraham. He lived in the city of Sodom. Sodom was not a nice city, even though Lot s family loved God. Two angels went to visit Lot. Lot welcomed them into his house. The people of Sodom wanted to hurt Lot s guests. He would not let them. He protected them, and the angels blinded the bad men. Then the angels left, but they told Lot he must run away. Punishment was coming for the city. They also warned him not to look back at the city when it was being punished. Lot gathered all of his family that would listen, and fled the city. As they were running away, Lot s wife turned back to see the destruction. When she saw God s destruction of the city, she turned into a pillar of salt. Lot and his daughters survived, because they listened. 17
18 INSTRUCTIONS: (1) Fill in the background and setting, (2) Add glitter to the fire. (3) Put glue on the outline of Lot s wife. Then add salt and let it dry! 18
19 The Story of Moses Moses was a baby born in Egypt. At that time, the Pharaoh did not want more Israelite baby boys to be born. So, Moses mother hid him in a basket in the river. The Pharaoh s daughter found baby Moses when she was at the river. She took him home and raised him like her own son. She had an Israelite woman help her with the baby. Without knowing it, she had chosen Moses mother help raise him. Moses grew up to be a man, but he did not like the way he saw the Israelites treated. He killed a man who was hurting an Israelite, and ran away to escape what he had done. In the wilderness, he became a shepherd. God came to him in the form of a burning bush. God told him that he had a job to do: he had to save the Israelites. Moses returned to do God s bidding. 19

23 The Story of The Exodus When Moses went to the Pharaoh and told him that the Israelites needed to go home, the Pharaoh did not listen. Moses warned him that God would punish them with 10 plagues. The first plague was turning water into blood. No one could drink the water! Pharaoh punished Moses people more harshly. The next plague was frogs. Frogs were everywhere! Pharaoh still would not let the people go. The third and fourth plagues were of gnats and flies. The people of Egypt suffered, but the Pharaoh still would not change his mind. Now, the plagues grew worse. The fifth plague was a disease that killed many animals. The sixth was boils and sores on all of the people of Egypt. The seventh was a terrible storm of lightning and hail, and the eighth plague was locusts that came to eat all of the plants and crops. (continued on next page) 23
24 Even with all that his people had suffered and all the power that God had shown him, the Pharaoh still would not let Moses people go. Moses delivered God s last two plagues. The ninth plague was darkness. For three days, Egypt was covered by darkness. God showed he was stronger than Egypt s sun god. Pharaoh was terribly angry at Moses and threatened to kill him. The tenth plague was the last one. Moses told all the people of Israel to put lamb s blood over their doors to mark which houses believed in God. The houses of Egypt were visited by an angel, who killed the first child of every family! Pharaoh was so upset that he agreed to let the people of Israel go. Pharaoh changed his mind after they had left, and sent his soldiers to catch them and bring them back. Moses prayed to God, and God told him what to do. He would stand by the sea and open a path for his people to go. When the Israelites had passed, the sea closed and crushed the Pharaoh s army. The Israelites were finally free, but they still had a long way to go to get home. Moses and the people would have to listen to God to make it home safely. 24

29 The Story of 10 Commandments Moses was leading his people to the promised land. It was a long trip, with many trials. Along the way, he stopped to go up a mountain, as God told him to do. For 40 days and 40 nights, he was on top of Mount Sinai. God wrote his 10 Commandments for the people on two stone tablets. They tell us how to live a good life. The 10 Commandments are: 1. I am your only God. 2. Do not worship anything else. 3. Do not curse in my name. 4. Remember to worship me on the sabbath. 5. Respect your parents. 6. Do not murder. 7. 33 The Story of David & Goliath The Israelites were at war with the Philistines. King Saul promised to reward any man who could defeat their champion, Goliath. The Israelites were afraid, because Goliath was so big and powerful. Goliath said many terrible things about the Israelites and their God. David took the challenge when no one else would. Even though he was only a shepherd s son, he did not take the armor or weapons King Saul offered. He took only his sling and five stones. Goliath wore his heavy armor and carried a big javelin. Goliath cursed David and God, but David was not afraid. He believed in God. He threw a stone from his sling and hit Goliath in the head. Goliath was defeated, and the Israelites chased away the Philistines. Later, David would become King of Israel! 33
34 INSTRUCTIONS: (1) Color the scene. (2) Glue a rubber band and a pebble next to David. (3) Glue a toothpick or wooden skewer with a tin foil tip by Goliath. 34
35 The Story of Jonah God asked Jonah to teach the people of Nineveh. Jonah didn t want to help them. He thought they were his people s enemies. He ran away on a boat instead. God created a great storm. Everyone on the boat was scared. Jonah said it was his fault. The people on the boat threw Jonah into the sea, and he was swallowed by a whale! For three days, Jonah prayed to God from inside the belly of the whale. On the third day, the whale spit Jonah onto the land. Then Jonah listened to God and went to teach the people of Nineveh. He learned that everyone is worth trying to save. 35
36 INSTRUCTIONS: (1) Draw Jonah in the whale belly. (2) Add glitter to the lightning and the waves. (3) Color the scene. 36
37 The Story of Daniel & the Lions Daniel was friends with king Darius. The king s advisors were jealous of Daniel. The advisors convinced the king to make a law. The law said that you could not pray to God. Daniel prayed anyway, because he loved God. When Daniel was caught praying, he was arrested. The king was upset. He had to punish Daniel, because it was the law. Daniel was thrown into a den of lions. He should have died, but he was not afraid. He prayed to God instead. God sent an angel to close the lions mouths. They did not hurt him. When the king came to check on him, Daniel was fine! He was not dead. The king happily took Daniel out of the lion s den. King Darius had seen the power of God. He believed, and in he punished his advisors instead. 37
38 INSTRUCTIONS: (1) Draw Daniel in the lion s den. (2) Add glitter or highlighter color to the angel. (3) Color the scene. 38
