5 2015 Conference Teaching Summaries Day 1 - Thurs. June 18 th 10:00-11:00 AM ~ Caleb Hegg "Counterfeit or Comrade?: Hassidic Judaism VS Messianic Faith, How Far Apart Are We?" - Pt.1 - In these two lectures we will first look at the formation of the various Hassidic sects, and some general theology. We will then compare Messianic faith to Hassidic Judaism and determine whether we should see ourselves as an offshoot of Hassidism or find ourselves in a different category all together. ~ Caleb is part of the Torah Resource Staff and is known for the Messianic Talk Show; the "Rob & Caleb Show". 11:15 AM - 12:15 PM ~ R' Yochanan Popp "Although I Have Fallen, I Will Arise" - Although I have fallen, I will arise; though I live in the dark, Adonai is my light. (Micah 7:8) This is to encourage those who, like Prophet Shim on, are waiting eagerly for Hashem to comfort His people during difficult times and yearns to embrace Yeshua for the light of His revelation to the Nations and a glory to Israel. This is message of hope and promise for those who have fallen in past sins, but desires to walk zealously in the Light of His Torah. ~ R' Yochanan is the congregational leader at Beth Shalom Messianic Congregation in Coeur D'Alene, ID. 1:30-2:30 PM ~ R' Moshe Zilverberg "The Messianic Prodigal Returning To The Torah" - Luke 15:9-32, Revelation 18:1-11, Proverbs 6:1-5, Proverbs 11: Messianic and Christian Believers along with the non-believer have literally been captured in America s corporate system, enslaved in Babylon and have become surety for the United States government. We as believers are commanded not to be surety and to come out of Babylonian system on the Earth. June 18 th (Continued) 2:45-3:45 PM ~ Rob Vanhoff "Hebrew Education In The Body Of Messiah: Where we've been, where we are, and where we're headed" - The path of learning Hebrew has its ups and downs. Within the Body of Messiah the journey is particularly interesting. Drawing on his personal experience as both student and teacher, Rob will encourage listeners invested in Hebrew education and offer clear direction for those confused or overwhelmed by the sea of learning. ~ Rob Vanhoff is an Instructor at Torah Resource Institute teaching various courses, such as 1st Century Judaisms, Introduction to Rabbinic Literature, Biblical Koine Greek and Biblical Aramaic. He is a language scholar specializing in the Eastern Languages; Hebrew (Biblical, Rabbinic, Modern), Aramaic (Biblical, Targumic, Syriac), Greek, and the Akkadian language. 4:00-5:30 PM ~ Tim Hegg "The 'Great Commission' How Yeshua Defines Taking God s Light Into The World" - This teaching will be an exposition of Matt. 28:18 20 in order to understand the job description Yeshua gave to His disciples in regard to taking God s light into the world. The emphasis will be to show the contrast between making disciples and what is commonly referred to as evangelizing the lost in much of today s missionary endeavors. The conclusion of the teaching will be to make specific applications regarding how Messianic communities must have a clear understanding of the task Yeshua has given to regarding taking God s light into the world implement that understanding in outreach ministries. ~ Tim Hegg serves as an overseer for Beit Hallel, a Messianic congregation in Tacoma, WA. June 19 th (Continued) 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM ~ Gary Springer "Zealous For Good Works: The Gospel & The Power Of God For Salvation For Families - This teaching will: 1) Establish the full context of the gospel as presented to Abraham (Gen 15:1-6, 18:17-19), seen in the wisdom of Solomon (primary a quick summary of Proverb 1-9), and explained by Yeshua when he confronted Jews who believed in Him as to their connection to Abraham (John 8:30-59). 2) Approach marriage and family counseling from both a remedial (correcting problems) and preventive (acting wisely before problems grow) point of view. 3) Introduce a basic model of counseling that seeks to unpack problems in families with a hope of bringing maturity in marriage and families. ~ Gary is one of the congregational elders at Beit Hallel Messianic Congregation in Tacoma, WA. He is also an Instructor at Torah Resource Institute. He graduated from Faith Evangelical Seminary in 2013 with a Masters of Arts in Christian Ministry M.A.C.M. (summa cum laude) with a concentration in Counseling. 1:30-2:30 PM ~ Gary Springer "The Passionate Heart Of A Shepherd: Counseling 101 For Those Who Serve In Leadership. " - This teaching will present a family systems approach to counseling. This lecture will seek to 1) Explore the agricultural imagery of Yeshua as the vine and we as the branches as foundational for any counseling ministry. 2) Seek to understand Paul s teaching in Galatians 6:1-5 as a healthy foundation for helping others with burdens in their lives. 3) Explore areas of concern in counseling that can benefit from a growing in wisdom or building skills approach crisis counseling, pre-marital counseling, and grief counseling. 4) The importance of understanding significant life cycle events (birth, childhood, growing to maturity, marriage, having children, empty nest, retirement, and death). 2:45-3:45 PM ~ R' Yochanan Popp "Exposing The Counterfeit Covenant" - The Counterfeit Covenant has been around since the Two houses of Israel were divided. We will expose the counterfeit Covenant throughout the Tanach and Brit Chadashah Scriptures and become aware of its trappings. In doing so, we will better understand and appreciate the Covenant that has been given to us. ~ R' Yochanan is the congregational leader at Beth Shalom Messianic Congregation in Coeur D'Alene, ID. 4:00-5:00 PM ~ R' Yeshayahu Foster "Yeshua & The Chasidic Concept Of The Tzaddik: Opening Doors To Dialogue" - R' Yeshayahu will share his own personal story of acceptance within the Chasidic community (including the Breslov community in Jerusalem) by speaking a "different language" about Yeshua. Instead of using terms that are really only familiar to Christians (savior, Christ, redeemer, believe in, etc.), a solid understanding of the Tzaddik in Chasidic thought gives Messianic Jews a new and different way to explain who Yeshua is and our relationship to him to Orthodox Jews. ~ In addition to being a UMJA Beit Din member, R' Yeshayahu serves as the congregational leader at Bet Emanuel, a Messianic Fellowship in Murray, KY. He received his Master's degree from Concordia Seminary and his Doctorate degree from Trinity Theological Seminary in partnership with the University of Liverpool. Dr. Foster has also studied abroad at the International Academy of Human Rights and Apologetics in Strasbourg, France; as well as, with several Yeshivas.

June 19 th (continued) 5:15-6:30 PM ~ Tim Hegg "Making Disciples: God s Method Or Ours?" - This teaching will look primarily at Acts 13:1-4 as a model for how Paul and Barnabas were sent out from the believing community at Antioch to make disciples for Yeshua. We will also look at other passages in Acts to see the methods employed by those who were sent out to take God s light into the world. ~ Tim Hegg serves as an overseer for Beit Hallel, a Messianic congregation in Tacoma, WA. June 20 th 12:00-1:00 PM ~ Shabbat D'rashah w/ R' Reuel Dillon "Storing Up The Word" - In this teaching we will meditate on Devarim (Deut.) 11:18-20 and the importance of developing a lifestyle of discipleship in which we are trained in the knowledge of Adonai s word, something that is part of accepting a covenant relationship with the God of Yisra'el. This lesson will be an encouraging exhortation to be a student of Adonai's word, to develop habits that reinforce learning His instructions, which serve to bring us into a closer walk and relationship with Him. ~ R' Reuel Dillon is the leader and teacher at Synagogue Chavurat HaMashiach, a Messianic Jewish congregation in Spokane, WA. He is also the President and a Beit Din member of the United Messianic Jewish Assembly (UMJA). 3:00-4:00 PM ~ R' Moshe Zilverberg Citizens Of Heaven & Ambassadors For Messiah - Yeshua has given us explicit commands for us as believers to occupy this Earth and to do His business until He comes back. How can we, as believers do His Business and occupy with our hands literally tied and restricted in the current world system we live in? 9 Day 3 - Shabbat (Sat.) June 20 th (continued) 5:30-6:30 PM ~ Phil Plotnek "Yeshua Our Torah: Not only is Yeshua the key to freedom in the Torah, but he is the Torah." The goal of the Torah has always been to point to Mashiach. Today, under the Brit Chadashah we are directed and instructed moment by moment through the Ruach HaKodesh living out God s Torah in us and through us bringing God s Light to the world. ~ As a Jewish believer who grew up and currently lives in Melbourne, Australia, Phil teaches on the Jewish legacy of the Christian faith and its biblical significance for us today. Phil holds a Bachelor Degree in Biblical Studies, and has been in ministry for over 19 years. Apart from being a seasoned speaker and a Messianic teacher, Phil is also a gifted musician and anointed worship leader, and has launched several Messianic Albums. Day 4 - Sunday June 21 st 9:00-10:00 AM ~ Ben Frostad "Messianic Torah Missions" - Cross-cultural missions is a topic that has not received much attention in our movement. This session will seek to initiate that conversation and pose some important questions on how we as Messianic Torah communities can engage the world and develop a global perspective on Yeshua's commission to make disciples in His Name. ~ Ben Frostad has been an ongoing student with Torah Resource Institute, and is part of the Messianic community in Regina, Saskatchewan. He is also the founder of "Messiah To The Nations" ( a Messianic organization bringing together various Messianic mission groups to help promote and equip Messianic missions to the Nations. 10:15 AM - 12:30 PM ~ Rob Vanhoff "Works Of The Law" In Paul & The Dead Sea Scrolls" Pt. 1 & 2 - The phrase "works of the Law" is used by the Apostle Paul in a few different places. Believers have long debated its meaning, and in Messianic circles we want to be clear on issues concerning "Law" or "Torah." With the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, we can now see that at least one other 1st-century Jewish group (also "zealous for the Torah") used the same phrase to describe their community "halakhah." In what ways is this helpful for our understanding Paul's arguments in Galatians and Romans? 10 Day 4 - Sunday June 21 st (continued) 1:30-2:30 PM ~ Tim Hegg "'Oral Torah' And The Messianic Believer In Yeshua" Part 1: What Authority Did Yeshua Prescribe to Rabbinic Traditions or Oral Torah? - This teaching will look at several key texts often brought up by those who teach that Yeshua taught His disciples to submit to Rabbinic Traditions or Oral Torah. These will include such texts as Matt. 18:18; 23:1 3; 24:5; Jn. 14:26 etc. The conclusion of the study will be that the authority to which Yeshua s disciples are to submit is the authority of the Scriptures, both Tanach and Apostolic Scriptures. 2:45-3:45 PM ~ Tim Hegg "'Oral Torah' And The Messianic Believer In Yeshua" Part 2: Distinguishing Between Absolutes And Traditions. This teaching will give a brief survey of the development of Rabbinic halachah through the centuries of the common era, up to the Shulchan Aruch. I will reinforce my understanding of how to discern between traditions that are profitable, traditions that are neutral, and traditions that are contrary to the Scriptures (which must therefore not be followed). ~ Tim Hegg serves as an overseer for Beit Hallel, a Messianic congregation in Tacoma, WA. For as we read, one of the purposes of Yeshua's sacrifice was to bring unity between us all, making us one, bringing us all into one flock, thus bringing shalom, to the glory of The Father.
