1 2 nd Element The power of the faith [This element starts from verse 20 25] Verse 20 This man came from the farthest part of the town Even though the people around them were not accepting their message - they still continued to convey the message This man wondered why the people did not accept three messengers He came hastening from the farthest part of the town Look at the power of faith. His faith made him run to enjoin the good and forbid the evil o He came to advice his people to accept and follow the messengers و ج اء م ن أ ق ص ى ال م د ين ة = faith Power of o The story started with the mention of the town (people closely interconnected to each other) o The use of the word city shows that he came from the extended parts of the town Power of the faith will not allow the person to accept the people around him to reject the message The person s name is not mentioned because his name is not important but what he did was more important ي ا ق و م o my people o He showed kindness, mercy and care to his people (advising) o When you are advising people show them the love and compassion don t separate yourself from them o Have good manners when you address people who are wrong He didn t address them negatively didn t blame them or question them o why are you bad? o why are you not following the messengers? You learn from this! When in the field of da wah = don t rebuke or scold people. Be positive and kind to them give precise advice with deep meaning He told his people to follow the messengers (messenger from Allah o The person calling to Islam should not call the people to follow him o He should tell the people to follow the messengers those are our role models o He advised them attach to Allah and His messengers not himself This is how we should be in life. No person should call others to attach to himself and to follow him! Each person should individually connect to Allah and His messengers and advice others to do the same

2 Lessons from Verse 20 Eagerness بذل الجهد o Trying the best to convey the message / determination الحرص o Da wah reached very far الدعوة وصلت اقصى المدينة o o Continue in spreading the message Patience of the messengers صبر المرسلين o o Even though they faced rejection Be gentle/kind while preaching / advising التلطف في النصح o Be merciful الرحمة o The man (daa ee) called his people to follow the messengers لم يدع الى نفسه o o Not to follow him Being positive in his speech االيجابية في الحوار o Verse 21 He encouraged the people to follow the messengers by telling them that they (messengers) didn t want anything for themselves from the people They genuinely wanted the people to go to Paradise The messengers didn t demand anything from the people except to follow them obey Allah The messengers were always focused working for Allah o That is how we should be when we are in da wah o Only be attached to Allah o Don t look at people to give you praise, money, or anything else o Only work for Allah and hope for the reward from Allah No expectations from the people just convey the message Their messages are pure for their people They themselves are guided so you should follow them o When you follow someone who is rightly guided you will not be misguided o How do you know that the messengers are themselves guided on the truth? Because the truth is always evident and clear like a shining star Page 2

3 Verse 22 Lessons from Verse 21 The man mentioned 3 things to encourage them to follow the messengers: ذكر الرجل ثالث امور تحث الناس o They are messengers from Allah انهم رسل raها o o They only want the reward from Allah nothing from you (the people) ال يريدون اجرا فقط االجر من raها o o They are rightly guided on the straight path هم على الطريق المستقيم o You will also be rightly guided Matter of the religion should be spread positively and kindly with encouragement Tell the people good things about the messengers Now the man talked about his own example The message to worship Allah alone o An indirect way to repeat the message of the messengers in the form or a self-directed question o why should I not worship Allah alone? Don t be carried away by emotions give people logical explanations that they will accept Then he mentioned the reasons for the answer of his question o ف ط ر ن ي Allah created me (my beginning) o و إ ل ي ه ت ر ج ع و ن and to Him is our return (all of us) o Both of these are common points no one should have any issue with them because Allah created each one of us and all of us will return to Him When talking about his creation the man talked in 1 st tense When talking about resurrection he talked about everyone o An indirect way to tell everyone to think about the message because everyone will return to Him o To make them think about the day that they will return back to Allah to be recompensed o A way of developing fear in their hearts o The creation bit will not make any difference because everyone knows that and that is not important o But the belief in the Last Day is a critical matter it will determine how you will live your life (accept the message and the messengers) He tried to make them realize this fact in order that they will pay attention to the messengers Don t give people complicated reasons give them simple, easy, logical reasons Beginning and end are to Allah Page 3

4 Verse 23 Another question shall I take other false gods besides Allah? o False gods are weak and disabled He told them that if the most merciful (Allah) intended to harm me, then no one can avail, no one can help me, no one can save me o This is a situation to make the people think Ponder on the use of Allah s name الر ح م ن with ضر (harm) o A way of telling them that even if there is any harm from Allah it is full of mercy, in order that you return back to Him o It s not a punishment from Him o This was the man s behavior with Allah o Telling the people about Allah s mercy (Allah doesn t want to harm you so turn to the mercy of Allah) Allah s harm to us is also full or mercy!!!! If Allah intended for any harm for him (the man) o The fake gods would not be able to intercede for him to reduce the harm o Nor would they be able to save him He used the word intends not befalls o The question was in option form not saying that any harm did befall on him...but just a scenario to make the people of the village think o He mentioned harm/distress because that is the test in life The concern is to remove the harm/distress Verse 24 He would be misguided and led astray if he did follow the fake idols o After stating so many reasons knowing the reality Then if he would attach to the fake idols he would be in plain error Verse 25 Now, at the end of his conversation he announced his faith He didn t mention it straight away when he came because they might have killed him or harmed him He stated all the logical reasons for his belief (the right way to believe in Allah and His messengers) and then expressed his situation to them When he came from far away he didn t just come and tell the people that I have believed and you believe too o He advised them positively and sincerely o Why to believe in Allah, why not to attach to the fake idols I believed in your Lord to bring those people closer to Allah o A diplomatic way not to create any difference between himself and the people o To make them realize that Allah is not only his Lord but the Lord of the people also Page 4

5 The people did not listen to him and they stoned him till death o They stoned and tortured him severely o Everybody against that one man o Everything in his belly came out o The battle between the truth and falsehood o All their anger came out on that one man o While he was being tortured he was making dua for the people (O Allah! Guide my people because they don t know) o He still had a very clear heart for the people because he wanted to convey the message for Allah and hope for the reward from Allah Page 5
