3 In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. Read in the name of your Lord who created, created man from clot of blood. Read! Your Lord is the most Bounteous, Who has taught the use of the pen, has taught man what he did not know. [Al-`Alaq 96, 1-5] The Prophet s Advice `Abdullah ibn `Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, reported: One day I was behind the Prophet, (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and he said to me: "O young man, I shall teach you some words [of advice]: Be mindful of Allah, and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him in front of you (i.e. ready to help you.) If you (need to) ask, ask of Allah; and if you seek help, seek help from Allah. Know that even if the Nation were to gather together to benefit you with something, they would not benefit you with anything except that which Allah has already recorded for you, and that if they gather together to harm you with something, they would not be able to harm you with anything except that which Allah has already recorded against you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried."
4 How to Recite the Qur'an PROPERLY Qur an is not just another book. It is the Book of Allah that you hold dear to your heart; that inspires you and empowers you through the challenges of life. Here are some tips on how to recite Quran properly: 1. Clean yourself and make Wudu before recitation. 2. At the beginning of your recitation, seek the protection of Allah from the distractions of Shitan by saying: أعوذ باهلل من الشيطان الرجيم I seek refuge in Allah from Shaitan, the rejected. 3. When you start a Surah remember the overwhelming Mercy of Allah and say: بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful 4. Now you are ready to recite the words of Allah; pay attention to what Allah is telling you. He always wants good for you. 5. Humble your heart and approach the Quran with Khushoo` and modesty. Every one of us needs the Quran s guidance, inspiration and empowerment. Never feel arrogant when reciting the Quran. (Do you remember what happened to Shaitan when he was too arrogant to obey the command of Allah?) 6. Try to pronounce the words correctly and read with a nice voice. Allah loves nice and careful recitation. 7. There is no point in reciting the Quran nicely without implementing it in your life. Try to do all the commands you read in the Quran and to avoid all prohibitions. Remember, Allah knows best what is good for you and His instructions always lead to happiness and success. Congratulations! Do you know how many Hasanat (good deeds) you get when you recite the Quran? It is 10 hasanat, not for each line or even each word; it is 10 for each LETTER. More Good News! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The best among you are those who learn the Quran and those who teach it.
