2 ISLAM Meaning: Submission that leads to peace (inner and outer) Every Prophet preached the same basic idea, to believe in one God and to follow the teachings of the Prophet at the time. Central Beliefs in Islam are called the Six Pillars of Faith

3 SIX PILLARS OF FAITH Testimony of Faith His Angels His Books His Messengers The Last Day Predestination Testimony of Faith: Belief in Only One God (Allah), and to believe that Muhammad is his Final Messenger. Belief in God s Angels: Unique creation, created from Light, and always obedient to God. The are unable to disobey God. We do not believe in Fallen Angels rather we believe them to be a separate creation called the Jinn who are created from fire and the Devil is from among them. Belief in the original scriptures sent down by God: All books that were revealed. But all of them except Quran are considered corrupted over time. Belief in all the Prophets: Jesus, Adam, Abraham, Noah, Moses, and many others. We believe in them exactly the same way as we believe in Prophet Muhammad (saw) and rejecting any one of them means rejecting all of them and thus rejecting Islam.

4 JIHAD Meaning: TO STRUGGLE Jihad in Righteous Lifestyle Raising Moral and Honest children is a jihad Proving for the family is a type of Jihad Belief in DOJ: Resurrection after death and accountability in front of God. Only He can either forgive or punish our sins. Don't know when this will happen but many signs have been given. Among them is that unnecessary and indiscriminate murder will become widespread, increase in sins, wars, increased number of earthquakes. Predestination: Everything happens with the knowledge and permission of God. This doesn t mean our hands are tied. Use the example of having kids from the book.

6 THE PROPHET MUHAMAMD ON KILLING The Prophet (saw): Do not be people without minds of your own, saying that if others treat you well you will treat them well, and that if they wrong you, you will do wrong to them. Instead, accustom yourselves to do good if people do good and not to do wrong (even) if they do evil. (Tirmidhi)

7 JIHAD OF FIGHTING To protect one s country, religion, or family is a Jihad. Rules of Jihad of Fighting Islam is more than just a spiritual religion. It takes into account the practical realities of this world. Sometimes, there may be a need for fighting.

8 DEFENSIVE JIHAD What must not be harmed: Civilians Food Sources Animals/Cattle Water Hospitals - Orphanages Houses of Worship Women. Children, Elderly Disabled When Muslims are facing oppression in the practice of their religion and when it is a threat to their life. (Revolutionary war) Muslims are driven out of their homes and the oppressor is still not leaving them free to worship. Fleeing oppressors need not to be pursued at length and should be allowed to return to their home. POWs should be treated with respect and their basic needs fulfilled, and they should be freed or ransomed as soon as possible. If the aggressor stops the aggression and offers a treaty, it should be accepted and the fighting should stop.

10 THE CONCEPT OF TAQIYYA Let not the believers take the disbelievers as Auliya (supporters, helpers, etc.) instead of the believers, and whoever does that will never be helped by Allah in any way, except if you indeed fear a danger from them. And Allah warns you against Himself (His Punishment), and to Allah is the final return. 3:28 In the beginning of Islam - during times of torture Muadh Ibn Jabal: There is no more taqiyya. There are innumerable texts on the importance of speaking the truth.

12 WHY DON T MUSLIMS CONDEMN TERRORISM? The Muslims have been condemning terrorism, individually and through organizations, and even through royal decrees. But the media doesn't pick up on these announcements and condemnations, because it simply not exciting. Its not news worthy. And God forbid, the news organizations would want people to realize that Muslims are actually peaceful!

13 FATWA AGAINST TERRORISM The Fiqh Council of North America wishes to reaffirm Islam s absolute condemnation of terrorism and religious extremism. We clearly and strongly state: All acts of terrorism targeting civilians are haram (forbidden) in Islam. It is haram for a Muslim to cooperate with any individual or group that is involved in any act of terrorism or violence. We issue this fatwa following the guidance of our scripture, the Quran, and the teachings of our Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. We urge all people to resolve all conflicts in just and peaceful manners.

14 WHY DON T MUSLIMS CONDEMN TERRORISM? Is it really a fair question? Does every single white American have to continuously apologize for white supremacists? Do All Hispanics have to apologize for Drug Cartels? So why Muslims? The Muslims have been condemning terrorism, individually and through organizations, and even through royal decrees. Chronic lower respiratory disease - 147, % 4. Accidents (unintentional injuries - 136, % 5. Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases - 133, % 6. Alzheimer's disease - 93, % 7. Diabetes 76, % 8. Influenza and pneumonia 55, % 9. Kidney disease (nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis) - 48, % 10.Suicide - 42, % 16. Homicide: 14,249

16 BUDGET Defense Department Heart Disease Defense Department - $580 Billion in 2016, $589 Billion in 2015 (54% of Total Budget) Heart Disease $1.2 Billion The No # 1 Killer and the money that its spent on it.

17 THREAT FROM ISLAMIC EXTREMISM Media attention - especially the right right neoconservatives. According to FBI Reports published on their website: The threat of islamic extremism is minimal : 94% of all terrorist attacks were carried out by Non-Muslims. (Similar stats in Europe) Even if all 140,000 attacks were carried out by Muslims, it would not be sufficient to say that Islam is what promotes this type of extremism.
