The parallels between Islam and Judeo-Christianity are not what they seem! By Ian Johnson This is a very timely warning, though written more than 20 years ago. The three areas that are generally touted as "parallels" or "similarities" between Islam and Christianity or Judaism--i.e., all are "monotheistic," all are Abrahamic, and all are religions "of the Book"--are not what they seem. The Ibrahim and Isa of Islam are entirely different than the Abraham and Jesus of the Bible. The God of Islam, though one, is infinitely distant and unapproachable. And the approach to "the Book" in Islam is also entirely different. Moreover, Ellul argues that the warlike aspect of jihad in Islam is not a temporary state of war, but a fully institutionalized and permanent requirement of Islam, both doctrinally and historically.
