1 Week Topic YEAR 7- Social Studies Term 1 plan Learning outcomes 1 Introduction Students are given an overview of year 7 Social Studies and learning outcomes. Classroom expectations are made clear to students. Students have a general discussion of the Arab Quiz on general information about the Arab World and students talk about the climate and topography of the Arab World in general. 2 The Physical characteristics of the Arab World The geographical location of the Arab Students will be introduced to the map of the Arab Topography: describe the following topographical features. Plains Plateaux Mountains. 3-4 The Physical characteristics of the Arab World Climate. Learn the kinds of climatic zones like coastal plains, flurial plains. Students will learn to draw, colour and label a topographic profile of the Arab world. Deserts Tropical and Mediterranean.
2 4-5 The history of the Arab World s civilizations. Students will learn the first civilizations to exist in the Arab world. The Fertile Crescent: the civilizations of Mesopotamia and the Sumerians. Students will be able to write a simple paragraph on each of the civilizations. How writing developed and the architecture of the times. 5-6 The history of the Arab World s civilizations. Religion, science and technology. Students will have a idea of how life was during these times. The Babylonian and Assyrian civilization. Civilizations of the Levant: The Arameans and The Phoenicians. 6-7 The history of the Arab World s civilizations. Civilization of Egypt. Label maps showing the Nile. Irrigation and the development of writing in Egypt. Students will learn everyday life in Egypt. Pre Islamic civilization. Dilmun and the Arabian Gulf Coast. Yemen and the Red Sea. 8-9 Islamic civilizations of Arabia The birth of Islam and how it united the warring tribes of Arabia. Developments in science, medicine and education in the Islamic world. 10 Revision and Preparation for term 1 exams and assessment. Students will undertake a general revision of all topics covered in term 1 and then complete revision sheets to prepare for their exams. 11 First Term examination Starts
3 Week Topic YEAR 7- Social Studies Term 2 plan Learning outcomes 1 The Natural and Economic resources of the Arab World 2 The Natural and Economic resources of the Arab World In this chapter students will learn about the resources of the Arab world. Focus on agricultural resources this week. What are the important crops of the Arab world? Animal products: Livestock and Poultry. Mineral resources: Oil and oil production. Oil exports of the Arab world. Oil organisations 3 The Natural and Economic resources of the Arab World Industry: Students will learn about the new industries being developed by the Arab World and why they are being developed. Where can you find industries in the Arab world? 4 Trade in the Arab Trade in the Arab world and its development over the years. Study various trade in military hardware, foodstuffs and clothes. The population size of the various Arab countries. Students will make a table on their own and display statistics. 5 Trade in the Arab The Arab World area, population and population density. Students will learn the most populated countries by percentage. Make tables and charts to show statistics. 6 Problems and challenges facing the Arab Students will learn and evaluate some of the major problems faced by the Arab world. The Palestinian Problem: Students review map of Palestine before and after Iran s occupation of Emirates islands as another conflict within the Arab world.

The destruction of natural habitat Scarcity of fresh water supplies. 8 Problems and challenges facing the Arab Insufficient agricultural production. Air Pollution and water and noise pollution. Students will learn and evaluate some of the major problems faced by the Arab world. Economic Aid. 3 Kuwait s place in the Arab World Loans granted to Arab states The drinking water project 4 Arab Co-operation Impact of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait on the Arab 5 Project work Students will undertake to research the natural resources of the Arab World and prepare a chart and PowerPoint presentation of research findings. 6 Project work Research: The importance of the Arab League in today s world and how the League influences the political. Social and cultural environment of the Arab
