The department of Microbiology at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences Deemed To Be University, Karad is highly honored to announce the th th th hosting of the 24 Maharashtra State Chapter Conference of IAMM from 28 to 30 September It is befitting that the premier Institute of Maharashtra state will host yet another landmark conference. Karad, though a taluka place in Satara district holds an esteem position in the field of educational, historical and cultural heritage. Situated on the banks of the river Krishna, Karad is well known for the confluence of two rivers, Krishna & Koyana, known as Sangama Ghat wherein is situated the Samadhi of Late Yashwantrao Chavan, the first Chief Minister of Maharashtra. We are happy to share that the Conference is preceded by CME in Virology. Eminent speakers are sharing their profound knowledge & experiences to benefit the junior faculty and PG students. The Conference is an academic feast comprising of Symposium on Anaerobic infections, free papers session, poster presentation, UG and PG quiz. We look forward to highly qualified and eminent Microbiologists of IAMM assembling at the picturesque campus of Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences Deemed To Be University, Karad to deliberate on latest trends in Microbiology. 6 Places to Visit... Karad is a small but upcoming town in Satara Dist. It is situated on the banks of the confluence of Krishna & Koyna Rivers. It is on Pune Bengluru national highway no. 4 and is well connected to other cities by road & rail. It is surrounded by many places of tourists interest like Koyna Dam, Ozarde water falls, Shri Ram temple at Chaphal and Satara etc. Radhanagari Dam, Dajipur Bison Sanctury, Gokak Falls are few other places on 2-3 hours drive from Karad. Mahabaleshwar, a hill station is 80 kms north from Karad. It is one of the few evergreen forests of India. It reaches a height of 4,718 ft at its highest peak above sea level, known as Wilson/Sunrise Point. It is a source of five rivers, the longest being the Krishna. The Venna lake, city market, strawberries and honey are the major tourist attractions. Mahabaleshwar is known for its points, from where tourists can enjoy the scenery. Panchgani, surrounded by five hills of Sahyadri, is all season hill station elevated at 1305 meters above sea level and 18 km east of Mahabaleshwar. The magnificent scenery of Krishna Valley with its numerous hamlets, cultivated fields and picturesque view of the backwater of Dhom Dam can be seen along the whole northern ridge of the mountain. The five hills are topped by a volcanic plateau, which is the second highest in Asia after the Tibetan plateau. Aundh, 40 kms northwest of Karad, is known for its hill temple, the Devi Yamai temple. The temple is very old but very attractive. The top of the temple has images and idols of various Hindu Gods. The temple complex contains the Shri Bhavani Museum, with paintings drawn by various well-known Indian artists including Raja Ravi Varma and the famous "Mother and Child" stone structure by Henry Moore. Kolhapur, 'Dakshin (south) Kashi', 'historical capital of Maharashtra state', 'door of konkan', 'city of wrestlers', 'city of arts' and 'city of palaces and temples' is 70 kms south of Karad. It is situated on the banks of the river Panchganga and is the location of the Temple of Mahalakshmi, a Hindu goddess. Besides Mahalaxmi temple, the city has temples, lakes, amusement parks, museums, forts which are attractions for the tourists. Kaas plateau is a plateau located near Karad. It is situated high hill plateaus and grasslands turns into a 'valley of flowers' during monsoon season, particularly from August to early October. Kaas Plateau has more than 150 or more types of flowers, shrubs and grasses. The orchids bloom here for a period of 3-4 weeks during this season. Kaas plateau is a World Natural Heritage site. To control possible damage by tourists, the number of visitors to the plateau has been restricted to 3,000 per day. In September, some of the most common flowering plants are Eriocaulon manoharanii, Pogostemon deccanensis,senecio grahamii, Impatiens oppositifolia and Dipcadi montanum. The Koyna Dam is one of the largest dams in Maharashtra, India. It is a rubbleconcrete dam constructed on Koyna River which rises in Mahabaleshwar, a hillstation in Sahyadri ranges. The catchment area dams the Koyna river and forms the Shivasagar Lake which is approximately 50 km (31 mi) in length. It is one of the largest civil engineering projects commissioned after Indian independence. The Koyna hydro-electric project is run by the Maharashtra State Electricity Board.

7 ABOUT HOST UNIVERSITY Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences Deemed To Be University, Karad is located in Western Maharashtra, India against the background of mountains and valleys. The green, eco-friendly campus is spread over 60 acres and is well connected by rail, road & air. The University is accredited by NAAC 'A' grade and has been conferred with ISO 9001 : 2015 certification. The constituent colleges of the University include Medical, Dental, Physiotherapy, Nursing and Allied Sciences - Pharmacy offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in respective faculties. It also admits the international students from all over the globe for undergraduate courses. It has state-of-the-art museums with large collection of specimens and models. The diagnostic laboratory has accredited by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL). The Lead Referral Laboratory is the first of its kind in Maharashtra state, which was ranked the first amongst 40 such centres in India. The well equipped Molecular & Human Genetics Laboratory is a feather in the cap. The Krishna Hospital & Medical Research Centre (KH & MRC) is 1125 bedded multi specialty tertiary care hospital with facilities for Critical Care, Endoscopic Surgeries, Dialysis, Cardiology, Cardio-vascular-thoracic-surgery, Oncology, Urology, Neuro surgery, Plastic surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a recognized Renal Transplant Unit. It has fully equipped major operation theaters, minor theaters, labor rooms, blood bank accredited by NABH, radio-diagnosis and radiotherapy, computerized medical records, counseling services etc. There are separate intensive care units like Medical, Surgical, Coronary care, Pediatric, Neonatal, Respiratory and Obstetrics. The neonatal ICU is recognized by Neonatology Forum of India. The radio-diagnosis department has facilities for MRI, color doppler, mammography, DSA etc. It also actively participates in national healthcare programs and various extensions & outreach community programs initiated by the Institute. The university has Directorate of Research which encourages UG, PG and faculty for various research activities. The KH & MRC is recognised by National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH).
