33 BHAKTI YOGA. (Short Summary in 2 pages). By Swami Dwiroopanand. This chapter discusses following points about Religion and God. 1. Way to search One infinite & invisible God - in verses Nos. 3,4 and Faith of a True devotee - in verse no Promise of God for his True devotees- I will take care of You V-5 & Different paths of Seeing God according to mental status of a seeker qualities of a true devotee- in verses nos. 13 to This Chapter is Nectar (cream - extract) of Religion. - verse This Chapter is a master piece of Hinduism, and Sanskrit Religious Literature. Brief Summary of the 20 verses. These Verses discuss - 1. Hindu belief of One Supreme Invisible and Formless God. God could be realized in human form only. Verses 3 to 5 discussed How to realize Formless God. A seeker develops faith and conviction about One Infinite Invisible God when he truely understands these 20 verses. 2. From verses No 6 to 11, different methods of reaching GOD, according to mental and intellectual levels of different individuals are shown by Lord. 3. Verse 12 evaluates the importance of Knowledge, Practice of Yoga,(Study of SELF), self-knowledge (Atma-Gyana), Art of concentration or attention (Dhyana), and renunciation of the fruits of actions (Karma-Fala-Tyaga). The fine difference between Jainism, Buddhism and Hinduism could be understood with reason by deeper understanding of this one verse alone. 4. Who is a true devotee (Bhakata)?. Verses from 13 to 19 describe nearly 32 psychological attitudes and mental qualities of a true devotee of God. They provide a measure tape for discovering a true devotee of God. One might not possess all the noble qualities to start with. By memorizing these verses one starts climbing the divine ladder of 32 steps of Bhakti. Any student marches towards God and SEES Him everywhere. 5. Remember the first few qualities to be developed. No jealousy, no attachments, No Egos of any kind, and positive helping nature filled with compassion, love, forgiveness, satisfaction etc.,..are qualities of a true devotee of God. 6. This chapter indicates a path of getting mental peace, spiritual upliftment, ability of making firm decisions, and unshakable faith in God. To become a true devotee one has to develop more higher qualities (Sad Goonas) described in the last 3 verses. Bhakti is a ladder of 32 steps, which a true seeker is supposed to climb step by step, slowly and steadily to reach and SEE GOD. 7. The theoritical knowledge of these 32 qualities provides us a guideline to find a real devotee from an impostor priest or a Guru. Even for this purpose one must learn and memorize this one chapter of the Gita. It will save your hard earned money going to wrong Gurus in name of religious donations. This chapter is Nectar of religion (Dharma-amrutam) is mentioned in the last 20th verse. 8. Region is to be practiced by SELF first, and then preached to others by self example, by exhibiting these 32 Good Qualities (Sad-Goonas) mentioned in this Chapter. 33
34 Summary of last 9 verses shreyo hi gyanam abhyasat, gyanat dhyanam vishishyate dhyanat karma-fala tyagam, tyagat shanihi anantaram. Self-Knowledge is higher than the worldly knowledge. Dhyana (art of fullest attention in the Karmas being done- the 7th step of Yoga) is higher than self knowledge. But renunciation of the fruits of actions is higher than Dhyana; because permanent peace of mind comes only by renunciation of the fruits of actions. (V-12). In summing up this entire chapter, Lord says; The above is the Nectar of Religion (Dharma-amrutam). One has to practice it daily, with faith and devotion to Me. I love such devotees very much. A student on the path of Bhakti has to ask himself or herself this question daily and constantly. "Do I possess any or some of these 32 qualities and attitudes? Om tat sad, eeti Shrimad Bhagavat Gitashu Upanishadshu, Bhrham-vidyam, Yoga-Shahtra, Shree Krishna-arjuna samvade, Bhakti Yogo nam Dwadasho-adhyaha. That is Truth. Thus we conclude the 12th chapter of Holy Bhagavat Gita. This is extract of all Upanishads, divine knowledge of soul, holy spirit and perfect Science of Yoga, presented in form of a dialogue between Lord Krishna (Supreme Intellegent Lord of Universe) and Arjuna (A confused, curious, able and intellectual seeker of God and Religion in any Land). 35
