4 Excerpts from Prema Dhaara God is Love. Love is selflessness. Self is separateness. Separateness is denial of wholeness. Wholeness is God Love must be completely to be Godward, to be Divine. It s creation must be, the beloved first; its technique must be your happiness not mine.. This way to happiness is forgetting of oneself and remembering God. Sai Krishna through the Gita has asked you to surrender yourself to the Divine completely and be free from the ego sense. When the ego sense is eliminated, you shall have universal vision, and based on that vision you love all alike. Sai is infinite love. It is this love that pervades and appears as universe around us. This love is ever seated in your hearts. Your perfect submission to His will brings us immediate peace and bliss. This self surrender is attained by our ceaseless remembrance of Him and His attributes. Let us therefore consecrate our life to Him and live in thought, word and deed for His sake. I have a reason to be proud of :, for I rescue all who worship and adore Me with Niyama (Discipline) and Nishta (steadfastness). I have a definition of 'devotion': I expect that those devoted to Me treat joy and grief, gain and loss, with equal fortitude.

Through two methods: 1. Always consider the faults of others, however big, to be insignificant and negligible. Always consider your own faults, however insignificant and negligible, to be big, and feel sad and repentant. By these means, you avoid developing bigger faults and defects and acquire the qualities of brotherliness and forbearance. 2. Whatever you do, with yourself or with others, do it remembering that God is omnipresent. He sees and hears and knows everything. Whatever you speak, remember that God hears every word; discriminate between the true and the false and speak only the truth. Whatever you do, discriminate between right and wrong and do only the right. Endeavour every moment to be aware of the omnipotence of God. The body is the temple of the individual (jiva), so whatever happens in that temple is the concern of the individual. So too, the world is the body of the Lord, and all that happens in it, good or bad, is His concern. The relationship of the individual (jiva) and the Lord, the kinship between the two, can be grasped by everyone who acquires three chief instruments: (1) a mind unsullied by attachment and hatred, (2) a speech unsullied by falsehood and (3) a body unsullied by violence.

12 SAI is Sath-CHITH-ANANDA SwaROOPA Asatho maa sadgamaya Thamaso maa jyothir gamaya Mrityor maa amritham gamaya From untruth, lead us to truth From darkness, lead us to light From death, to immortality The meaning of this mantra is given variously by different people, some elaborately, some succinctly. Here is the real meaning of the mantra. The first prayer is: Oh Lord, when I am deriving happiness through the objects of this world, make me forget the unreal objects and show me the way to permanent happiness. The second prayer is: Oh Lord, when the objects of the world attract me, remove the darkness that hides the all-pervading Atma, which every such object really is. The third prayer is: Oh Lord, bless me through Your grace with the immortality (Paramananda) that results from the awareness of the effulgence of the Atma that is immanent in every object. - Prashanthi Vahini

13 God is the only entity that is worth loving The Veda is the Mother of all the scriptures (sastras). The Veda emanated from God Himself as inhalation and exhalation. The great sages, who were the embodiments of the treasure gained by long ascetic practices, received the Veda as a series of sounds and spread it over the world by word of mouth from preceptor to pupil. Since it was heard and preserved by generations, the Veda is known as sruthi, that which was heard or listened to. Vedas advise us to love God with no touch of desire in our minds. Love, since you must love for love s sake; love God, since whatever He can give is less than He Himself; love Him alone, with no other wish or demand. The Vedas remind one that the nonphysical Atma is in the physical them and that embodiment of truth is the supreme Atma (Paramatma). That alone is real and permanent; the rest are all transitory, evanescent. The Indian (Bharathiya) march toward the supreme Reality is not from untruth to truth. It is from truth to truth, from incomplete truth to complete truth, from a partial truth to full truth - Sathya Sai Vahini

14 AUM is the symbol of the Supreme Atmic Principle Q. Is there any mantra or repetition of the name (japa) that will give us this peaceful (santhi) state that you spoke about just now? If there is any, which is the important one? A. Mantra and repetition of the name are essential for all types of people. What is a mantra? Ma means manana (reflection, understanding) and thra means saving, so mantra means that which can save you if you meditate on it. A mantra will save you from being caught up in the coils of this worldly life, which is infested with death, grief, and pain. Of all mantras, the Om (pranava) is the highest and the best. It is the very head and crown of all of them. Q. Suppose each one does repetition of the name of their chosen deity according to their own light. I believe it is not wrong. Or is it? A. You mean that however savage or foolish people may be, they cannot but call on the Lord! Well, if the name is recited along with Om, it is bound to be beneficial. Just as the waters of the ocean are raised into the sky by the rays of the sun and then, falling as rain, form hills and rivers and rush toward the ocean to become the waters of the ocean again, so all sounds and mantras that were once only Om reach the Om through repetition and other disciplines and rites. 18 God is the highest source of JOY Brahmanandam, Parama Sukhadam, Kevalam Jnanamurtim, Dwandwateetam, Gagana Sadrisham, Tattwamasyadi Lakshyam, Ekam, Nityam, Vimalam, Achalam, Sarvadhee Sakshibhutam, Bhavateetam, Trigunarahitam Man is the embodiment of divine bliss, wisdom absolute, beyond the pair of opposites, expansive and pervasive like the sky, the goal indicated by the aphorism (mahavakya) "You are That (thath twam asi)", one without a second, eternal, pure, unchanging, witness of all functions of the intellect, beyond all mental conditions and the three attributes of purity(sathwa), restlessness (rajas) and dullness (thamas). All are born in Ananda, will live for Ananda, all die in order to attain Ananda. The Taithiriya Upanishad elucidates that Ananda is the urge for birth, growth, decay and death. Sutra Vahini

19 Happiness is union with GOD Vidya Vahini: Three kinds of Happiness Sathwik : Poison in the beginning and nectar in the end It is secured through the awareness of the Atma. When one succeeds in overwhelming the mind, one achieves the awareness of the Atma. This success can result only when one undergoes many ordeals and denials. The bliss that one earns afterward is the highest kind of happiness. Rajasic : Nectar in the beginning and poison in the end When one welcomes this passionate sensory pleasure, one s strength, awareness, intelligence, and enthusiasm to reach the four goals of human endeavour dharma, wealth (artha), righteous desire (kama), and liberation (moksha) become weak, because one s interest declines. Tamasic: It dulls the intellect from beginning to the end It finds satisfaction in sleep, slothfulness, and faults, and it derives happiness therefrom. The dull (thamasic) person ignores the path that leads to the awareness of the Atma and pays no attention to it throughout life.

20 Living for god is true service Offer selfless service, receive pure love (bliss) Anapeksah Sucirdaksa Udasino Gatavyathah Sarvarambha Parityagi Yo Madbhaktah Same Priyah He who is totally devoid of desires, Absolutely pure, Firm in determination, Completely detached, Immune to the play of Time, And has renounced pomp and ostentation; Such a one is dear to Me. GITA: (12.16)

21 PRAYER: the Joy of God should be the goal of all actions Three types of activity reach God and earn His Grace. 1. Activity not prompted by personal desire, 2. Activity emanating from unselfish Love and 3. Prayer arising from pure hearts. These are the items to which the Lord pays heed; they reach God direct. It is essential to inquire into the credentials one has before one formulates the prayer. That inquiry will reveal whether one's thoughts and resolutions, hopes and desires arise from firm Faith or not. How to test and discover the truth? The test which will reveal the quality of your Faith is whether you are practicing sincerely the injunctions laid down by God. Your beliefs and actions must be expressions of Faith. They must have holiness as their core. They must be so full of Love and Compassion that they attract on you the Grace of God. The rest are the concern of deities who preside over their disposal. Therefore, prayers have to be unselfish, saturated with Love, and free from the taint of "attachment to the gift that the prayer would bring." - Sathya Sai Vahini
