3 Uttarakhand, Handloom & Handicraft Development Council Uttarakhand and Handloom & Handicraft Development Council (UHHDC) is an apex body under the industry Department, constituted by the Government of Uttarakhand for complete integration and development of the handloom and handicraft sector in the state. UHHDC acts as a facilitator to motivate, guide and organize weavers and artisans and provide them a common platform for direct constituents Uttarakhand, a rich state in natural resources have created and nurtured various forms of arts and crafts since ages. The State specializes in production of woollen handlooms, cotton handlooms, silk products, products of other natural fibers, cooperwares, ringaal based products, wax work, aipan art and many more innovative combinations. The handloom and handicrafts products of Uttarakhand have always been in a great demand both in the country and abroad. Woing to the stiff competition faced by these arts and crafts from the modern and cheap machinemade products, the government of Uttarakhand felt the need to take concrete step for their revival and

6 About : Uttarakhand Uttarakhand was formed on 9th November 2000 as the 27th State of India, when it was carved out of northern Uttar Pradesh. Located at the foothills of the Himalaya mountain ranges, it is largely a hilly State, having international boundaries with China (Tibet) in the north and Nepal in the east. On its northwest lies Himachal Pradesh, while on the south is Uttar Pradesh. It is rich in natural resources especially water and forests with many glaciers, rivers, dense forests and snowclad mountain peaks.
