1 The Scribe April, 2016 A monthly account of ministry & mission at Christ the King Lutheran Church Thoughts from Pastor Tim Orlowski I have to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who contributed of their time, talents and treasure for our Lenten, Holy Week and Easter services this year. Honestly, this was one of the most deeply meaningful Lenten seasons I have experienced in quite some time. I found the Prayer Station midweek worship service to be an appropriate and helpful way to begin the season. I appreciated the volunteerism of folks who helped to set up tables, provided soup and bread, and helped to clean up after our midweek worship services. And I am so deeply grateful for the thoughtful and inspiring devotions that were written for our 4 th Annual Lenten Devotional they were wonderful insights into our deep, wide and intimate faith. Our Holy Week services, in particular, were special for me this year. I received so many comments from people who appreciated NOT reading the entire Passion Story on Palm Sunday, and instead encouraging people to attend each of the Holy Week worship services. The rhythm of the week was wonderful, and it led to an even more glorious Easter for me. So, thanks to all of our musicians, staff, and volunteers for making this year s Lenten season so fantastic! Alleluia! He is risen! He is risen, indeed! Alleluia! Pastor Tim

6 GOOD READS... Monthly Book Review by Lillian Boe You can find this book in the Non-fiction Section of our CtK Library Gift From the Sea by: Anne Morrow Lindbergh Anne Morrow Lindbergh s thoughts are woven around her impressions gathered from her ocean-side stay away from society and civilization from people and things from noise and confusion from musts and don ts. What Anne discovers in her solitude at the beach, she offers to the readers by way of her journal. She writes about the challenges many women face in our relationships with our family, fiends, the world, and ourselves. The words are her thoughts and ideas. She encourages us to embrace each phase of life like the ebb and flow of the sea s tides. Anne uses five shells found on the beach to symbolize her ideas. Women need to make an effort to simplify their lives; find time for solitude, creativity, and an inner life. Have time alone with your spouse and each child for one-and-only moments. Find balance between obligations to your family and your community, and time for inner harmony. Enjoy the present, find the joy and peace in the here and now. Anne s book is a slim volume written in 1955; it is partly memoir and partly an inspirational group of essays. ~ Lillian CtK PIECEMAKERS Did you know...? With Spring just around the corner, and to kick off the growing season, Manna has started our own garden tower which grows plants vertically enabling us to grow 50 plants in a very small space and help provide fresh produce for the main dining room all year round.
