We have a tradition of being a loving, caring and safety conscious school. We are determined to carry on this legacy. At the end of each day, dismissal is a time where students go many directions. It is for the safety of our children that students leave the building for their ride home, accompanied by a teacher, through door #4. Extended care students and those attending afterschool clubs are escorted to the gym by a teacher. When they arrive, an extended care worker checks all students in. This process takes approximately minutes. No student will be dismissed until after the check-in process is complete. Parents and those picking up students from this process will be able to enter the building at door #1 after the check-in process has been completed (approximately 15 minutes after dismissal). If you need to pick up your child early for an appointment, please come to the office at least 20 minutes before dismissal to sign out. Please help us keep our children safe by adhering to this procedure. Please convey this procedure to all who pick up your children. Thank you for your support and trust as we deal with this matter. 3 Page 3 Nativity Students Shine Congratulations to Nativity 8 th grade student Victoria Orange for winning the Scecina Memorial High School Father Thomas Scecina Scholarship! This $2000 renewable merit scholarship is a high honor indeed! The announcement letter from Scecina read in part, Victoria, you have already demonstrated that you understand the importance of applying your God-given talents to the opportunities before you. As you continue your education, I know that the education you have received at Nativity and your strong work ethic will serve as a solid foundation for continued success. We would also like to congratulate 8 th grade student Grace Whitaker for representing Nativity well in the State Regional Spelling Bee at IUPUI last Sunday. Grace came in 9 th out of 30 competitors. Last, but not least, congratulations to 6 th grade student Gabe Horn who won the Knights of Columbus State Free Throw title in his age group Sunday in Noblesville. We are proud of you, Tori, Grace and Gabe! Saint of the Week Our Saint of the Week is --- who else? - Saint Patrick of Ireland. Born in Scotland, Saint Patrick was kidnapped by Irish pirates and brought to pagan Ireland as a slave when he was about sixteen. He escaped several years later and studied to become a priest. Patrick had such great love for our Lord that he returned to Ireland to teach the Irish people about God. He was humble and he was courageous. He used the native three-leaf shamrock to teach about the Trinity three persons in one God. Patrick was ordained bishop of Ireland and is credited for having established the Church there. He died in 493. Ireland later became a source of numerous missionaries to the rest of the world. Happy Saint Patrick s Day! Happy Feast day to our pastor, Father Patrick Doyle!

Grandparents Club Pottery Class Our Grandparents Club had a fun and relaxing morning creating their one-of-a-kind pottery pieces. Mr. Hagerty, our art teacher, taught them different techniques to use as they created their clay pieces. After glazing their pieces, they can take them home and proudly display their art work. The next Grandparents Club activity will take place during the week of May 2 nd. Details to follow. Out of Uniform Ms. Wagner s 8 th grade students have earned another out of uniform day. The students have arrived another 25 days on time and ready to learn. Punctuality wins again! IXL Achievements Mrs. Peek s and Mrs. Youtsey s 2 nd grade classes have achieved excellence in 950 second-grade math skills! Keep up the great work 2 nd grade!

5 Page 5 Parent Power Can Form Strong Conscience The Holy Spirit in each of God s children calls us to do good, but we have to understand what good is. That is where our consciences come in. Conscience is a judgement of reason by which the human person recognizes the moral quality of a concrete act (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 1796). Forming a Catholic conscience is a lifelong task, beginning at birth. Do as I do. Parents have the biggest impact on our children s development, and how their consciences form. The process begins when children start developing attachments. Children start to imitate the mannerisms, speech, and habits of trusted adults. It is important that they see our faith in our actions. Experience is a powerful teacher. If parents are attentive, respectful, and nurturing to a child, she learns to internalize these characteristics as the way to relate to others. For example, attending to a child s emotional pain will teach her remorse when she causes others pain. Invest active time in children, foster a sense of belonging, and communicate love. Partners In Faith, March 2016 Saint Patrick s Day is almost here! To celebrate, the Student Council is offering for purchase an Irish blessing and treat for a friend! These will be for sale at all lunch periods on Monday, March 14 th through Wednesday, March 16 th for 50 cents. Prayers will be passed out to the students on Thursday, March 17 th! Happy Saint Patrick s Day! Lenten Rosary Please join us every Tuesday morning from 7:45 until 8 a.m. in the Chapel during Lent to pray the Rosary. We have extra rosaries in case you need one.
