2 CONTENT Session 1 Planting Or Presuming? There is NO Community Without First Knowing your Community Presenters: Nathan Ivey Description: The Principles and Practice of becoming a student of your neighborhood in order to become its servant. This session will provide a framework that promotes the study of a planter s neighborhood with a strategic ministry plan built around the findings. Session 2 Starting Beyond Relief: Community Development Principles for Church Leaders Presenters: James Westbrook Description: An introduction and explanation of 12 core development principles that guide successful mercy and justice ministries at the local church level. Planters will learn how to successfully implement into their church s DNA development principles over less effective relief efforts. Lunch Discipling the Poor out of Poverty: What you Need to Know Presenters: Randy Nabors & Phil Edwards Description: An overview of Randy s book Merciful along with a casual discussion regarding lessons learned by two seasoned veterans. Planted will learn principles of discipleship along with exposure to open dialogue with seasoned mercy veterans. Session 3 The Race for Reconciliation: The Dangers of Running to Fast Presenters: Jamaal Williams & Josh Thomas Description: The 10 B s of Reconciliation. Ethnic Reconciliation is to be embodied and lived out from the beginning to the end of any church planting or ministry effort. Session 4 The Burden of Love: A Discussion On Violence in the Inner-City Presenters: TC Cunningham, Randy Nabors, Nathan Ivey, Jamaal Williams, Josh Thoomas, James Westbrook & Officer Tate Mason Description: A 20-minute address followed by a dynamic Q&A panel. 2

3 ! SPEAKER PROFILES Randy Nabors For 35 years Randy served as pastor of one of the South s most racially diverse churches, New City Fellowship in Chattanooga, TN. He currently leads the New City Network, an international coalition of churches that are urban, cross-cultural, include the poor, have joyful worship and sound Biblical preaching. Jamaal Williams Lead Pastor, Sojourn Midtown Jamaal is responsible for Sojourn Community Church s largest inner-city campus as well as leading Sojourn s ethnic diversity efforts. He is pursuing a D.Ed. Min in Black Church Leadership, serves on the ERLC, and is passionate about ethnic reconciliation. 3

4 ! TC Cunningham Pastor at C3 Church As an inner-city resident and pastor, TC understands the social pains, sufferings and violence in our neighborhoods. He has a passion for the urban context, cross-cultural ministry and the poor among us. For decades he has championed racial reconciliation, mercy ministry and church planting. Phil Edwards Pastor at Soma Indy Phil is responsible for empowering Soma in urban/cross cultural training with the intent to renew Indy through the message and mercy of God. With 25 years experience Phil is a respected, seasoned leader and pastor within the Sojourn Network. 4

Josh Thomas Pastor of Mercy at Sojourn Community Church Josh Thomas is the Pastor of Sojourn s mercy ministry at the Midtown Campus, a ministry that equips God's people to love their neighbors, disciple the poor and serve their neighborhoods with the gospel of Jesus Christ. James Westbrook (New pic Coming Soon) Pastor at Sojourn Community Church James holds expertise in curriculum development, non-profit management, and community development. He is responsible for building one of the largest and successful job training programs in St. Louis, MO. James also holds a Master of Theology from Golden Gate Seminary and is a powerful preacher and leader. 5

6 Nathan Ivey Executive Director at Seed to Oaks Nathan holds expertise in helping the local church become more effective and efficient at discipling the poor out of poverty. Through partnerships and innovation, he demonstrates how to move the church beyond relief efforts to sustainable community development in the areas of health, education, econ development and leadership. 6
