Take attendance. 7:00-7:20 REVIEW Chse an activity r activities frm the fllwing ideas: Review previus lessns. Ask questins regarding the last few lessns using the We Are Review Questins and Jesus is A thrugh Z Review Questins (in KPH binder). Reward crrect answers with Starbursts, etc. Play baseball with the review questins. Have the entire class play as ne team, trying t beat a scre f 20 runs (their recrd), r divide them int tw teams and see which team can scre the mst runs. An incrrect answer equals an ut. After three uts, it s the ther team s turn t bat (r if playing with the entire class as ne team, clear the bases f runners after three uts). Make sure each team gets an equal number f at bats. Have anther teacher keep track f uts and pints n the marker bard. Play musical chairs. When the music stps, ask the player withut a chair a review questin. If the student answers crrectly, he r she gets t stay in the game. Divide the grup int pairs. Give each pair ne f the mini psters with adjectives and titles f Jesus (i.e., the A sheet r the B sheet, etc.; in KPH binder). Have each team wrk tgether t memrize every adjective r title n their sheet. Then have them cme up frnt and recite them t the class. Have a student cme t the frnt f the class and pick a letter (A-Z) ut f a bag and then try t remember all the adjectives/titles that g with that letter. Play A-M r N-Z BINGO with adjectives/titles. Review ther previusly memrized items. Use cardbard chart and cards with bks f the Bible, as well as ther prps. One Gd, Sin and Repentance, etc., verses that students have been wrking n. Each student will have his/her wn list r bklet t wrk frm, cntaining a chart fr teachers t initial as students qute the verses ne at a time, tw at a time, etc. (Teachers: Please read instructins n the bttm Bible memry wrk charts r in the frnt f the bklets.) 3 Intrductin During the first part f the year we learned abut Jesus character (wh He is) and pwer (what He des) by explring His titles and adjectives frm A t Z. Refer t the Jesus is A thrugh Z bard. Nw we are learning abut sme f the things that the Bible says we Christians are. Shw the We Are display bard. Shw the different types f light. What are these used fr? (discuss uses fr each type f light) Can yu think f sme ther types f lights? (sptlight, light huse, headlights, etc.) Lights help us see better s we can find ur way. Lights help keep us safe. Even the smallest light can make us feel less afraid. What is the biggest light in ur wrld? (the sun) What is the biggest light in ur night sky? (the mn) Can the mn shine withut the sun? (n; the mn is nt a light surce n its wn; it reflects the light f the sun) Lessn A few weeks ag when we were explring Jesus titles and adjectives that begin with the letter L, we talked Jesus being the Light f the Wrld. Hw is Jesus the Light f the Wrld? (shw prps as pssible: His sptlight shws us the sin in ur lives; His lamp drives away the darkness [sin, sadness] frm ur hearts; His headlights shw us the pathway t Heaven; His lighthuse keeps us away frm rcky truble; His flashlight helps us nt t stumble even when there s darkness all arund; His nightlight helps us be unafraid; etc.) We knw Jesus is the Light f the Wrld, but listen t what He said in Matthew 5:14. 4 Jesus said WE are als the light f the wrld. He is like the sun, and we are like the mn reflecting His light. Shw printed visual fr Light. Jesus said, A city that is set n a hill cannt be hid. What des that mean? (a city n a high place can be seen frm many miles away, especially at night when many lights are shining; Christians are individual lights, shining all tgether, making a bright light in a dark wrld) Have a student attach the visual fr Light t the We Are display bard. Nw listen t the next verse, Matthew 5:15. Read Matthew 5:15 frm yur Bible. If it was dark in here and I wanted t walk frm the dr t the frnt f the rm withut tripping n smething, I culd light this candle, r turn n this flashlight. Shw candle and flashlight. Even this small amunt f light wuld help me see t crss the rm. Demnstrate walking acrss the rm with the flashlight. Let s say yu were trying t crss the rm at the same time as me, but I didn t want t share my light. I culd put this basket ver it. Demnstrate walking with smene with the flashlight cvered. (Gd s) When we d bad things, we dn t have t stay in darkness. If we ask, Jesus will frgive ur sins. Then we can walk in the light and BE the light. Chse a cuple f students t carefully cllect the Bibles. 8:15-8:30 ACTIVITY/SNACK Supplies: Bracelet glw sticks (fr drinks plus extras t hand ut) Sprite (r ther clear drink) Smaller clear plastic cups t fit int Larger clred plastic cups Snack f yur chice Bend glw sticks and place them int the bttm f clred cups. Push clear cups dwn inside f clred cups. Fill clear cups with Sprite. Serve the kids their glwing drinks and a snack f yur chice. While the kids are eating, hand ut ther glw sticks. Remind kids: We are the light f the wrld. Individually, we may nt think ur light is very big, but tgether we are brilliant!
