BRING A FRIEND! Call Cathy Nelson, , for further information and reservations. UMW News: Two big things coming up for United Methodist Women and the church. First: Families are encouraged to give at least $5 for the blanket fund that will be collected for district conference mission fair. This year the mission fair will be held in late September at the Rapid Valley Methodist Church. Let us care for others that don t even have a blanket that can be used for more than a blanket for warmth. Blankets are given out during disasters. A collection will be taken in September. Please consider what you can give. Second: The UMW Annual Bazaar, Soup and Pie supper. Invite your friends and neighbors! Saturday, October 15 from 4 to 7pm. HOME MADE, HOME CANNED, HOME BAKED. UMW s next meeting Aug. 17 th at 7pm with leader, Patti Schommer, and hostess, Leona Dryden. We would like all women to come and be involved with the Prairie View UMW mission organization.

3 CAVE QUEST VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2016 was AMAZING! Last week leaders and kids had fun learning about how we find our COURAGE, LOVE and POWER in Christ. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE who donated time, funds, supplies, and love to this amazing ministry. The church wants to thank the parents for bringing the kids, the teachers, the kitchen staff, custodians, people who helped unload and decorate, run the tech booth and especially Robin Tierney for her leadership. Praise God for All He has Done!

4 On Saturday, July 3 rd Prairie View hosted the Community Breakfast. In addition to that we had special guests, Petra and Brian Wilson, from High Seas Balloons. They brought their Hot Air Balloon and crew and gave tethered Hot Air Balloon rides to anyone who showed up! It was a great morning perfect for flying! Everyone knows how the wind blows around here and most people know it needs to be perfectly still to fly a balloon. That week we had rain and wind but on the day that we needed it most, God provided a perfectly calm day! Funds raised during the breakfast that day broke $ ! Those funds are used to help send people to camp! Praise God! And Thank you Petra! Prairie View From a Balloon! SATURDAY BREAKFAST NEEDS VOLUNTEERS An addition 3-4 people are needed on Saturday Mornings to help dish up and serve the meal. Please contact Judy Cox or Colleen Bowker for more information. TRAVELING? Let us know so we can pray for your safe journey. Remember Direct Deposit is available for those who travel and are unable to attend Sunday Worship. Prayer Request Cards: Need a special prayer? Pray Without Ceasing cards are available at the back of the sanctuary for your use. The Bell Garden is a very special place! Kids love to ring the bells. Adults love to sit and visit. Due to health reasons some of the volunteers have not been able to tend the garden. We can All help out! Just a few minutes from a bunch of people will make a huge difference. Come early on Sunday morning before worship and spend some time pulling weeds. I come to the garden alone, While the dew is still on the roses, And the voice I hear falling on my ear The Son of God discloses. And He walks with me, and He talks with me, And He tells me I am His own; And the joy we share as we tarry there, None other has ever known. SUNDAY SCHOOL STARTS IN SEPTEMBER! TEACHERS NEEDED! 7 THANK YOU to all the volunteers who shared in the Habitat for Humanity Work Day! We spent the day working together, mixing cement, digging postholes, setting fences and building bonds! The time we spend in ministry helps each of us and makes a difference in someone s world. If you want to be a part of this amazing team contact the Outreach and Mission Committee. MISSIONS The Missions committee will be collecting school supplies the month of August. The kits include #2 PENCILS, RULER, BLUNT TIP scissors, 24 pack of crayons, pencil sharpener, eraser, and 3 ring note paper. Please bring any school supplies to the church and a box will be there. If you don't want to do the shopping and just give money we will gladly do the shopping for you. Thanks from the Mission committee. Heartfelt and inspirational, Tami's music will bring you in lyrically and keep you singing with catchy melodies. Her music is truly inspired by the Holy Spirit.

9 I recently read this old Yiddish tale and its explanation which I thought I d share with you this month. I hope it speaks to you and is a help to you in the sharing of your faith! Once upon a time, Truth went about the streets as naked as the day he was born. As a result, no one would let him into their homes. Whenever people caught sight of him, they turned away and fled. One day when Truth was sadly wandering about, he came upon Parable. Now, Parable was dressed in splendid clothes of beautiful colors. And Parable, seeing Truth, said, "Tell me, neighbor, what makes you look so sad?" Truth replied bitterly, "Ah, brother, things are bad -- very bad. I'm old -- very old, and no one wants to acknowledge me. No one wants anything to do with me." Hearing that, Parable said, "People don't run away from you because you're old. I too am old -- very old. But the older I get, the better people like me. I'll tell you a secret: Everyone likes things disguised and prettied up a bit. Let me lend you some splendid clothes like mine, and you'll see that the very people who pushed you aside will invite you into their homes and be glad of your company." Truth took Parable's advice and put on the borrowed clothes. And from that time on, Truth and Parable have gone hand in hand together and everyone loves them. They make a happy pair.' Yeshua (Jesus) told many truths with parables. We can see that as we read through the gospels. Yeshua rarely (maybe even never) began with scripture when he was among commoners. It was only in the synagogue, among the scholars that he did so. Most of the time, Yeshua told stories about everyday things in order to bring His strong message in a way that would keep his listeners attention! Perhaps you've been sharing Scripture with someone and the message is just not getting across the way you'd hoped. Each person is different. There is no exact universal recipe for how to share our faith. We must sense where a person is -- ask the Lord to show us where to start -- try different approaches!
