7 Building the Kingdom Together Workshops By Fr David Garcia, OP How is our organisation s mission, processes and work respecting the dignity of each person? Are we applying the principles of our Catholic Social Teaching within our organisation? The workshops end with a better understanding on the Principles of Service in the approach of Partnering the Poor. 8 Living Our Faith in Community Workshop By Fr David Garcia, OP How do we make sense of our daily challenges through the eyes of faith? These workshops cater to existing communities that meet regularly to grow, live and express their faith in their daily encounters with others. They provide an understanding of the need to integrate faith and life. Using the Catholic Social Teaching as a resource, they offer insights into how we could live our vocation as builders of the Kingdom of God. God has a plan for creation, to build His kingdom of peace, love and justice. Our part in His plan is to answer His call in working towards achieving the common good for all and to treat everyone with dignity in our daily encounters with each person. Issues mentioned range from family life to international development, understanding poverty and managing wealth, consumerism, being stewards of the environment, the rights of workers and the dignity of work. These workshops also introduce a method for analysing our life challenges, reflecting on them with eyes of faith and spurring us to respond as we lead the lives of intentional Christians and allow for some reflection and directional planning for growing the communities that attend. Page 5

9 Dates: (there are 2 runs of this workshop for this year) Workshop A: 7 April (Saturday) 2017, 9:00 a.m. to 4.00p.m. OR Workshop B: 20 October (Saturday) 2016, 9:00a.m. to 4.00p.m. Target Audience: Existing Catholic faith communities who meet regularly to grow in faith. Participants are to register and attend as communities. Minimum group size: 5 people (Considerations could be made for slightly smaller groups). Contribution: $10 per person. Additional Love Offering is welcomed. Page 6

Dates: (there are 2 runs of this workshop for this year) Workshop A: 3 March (Saturday) 2017, 9:00 a.m. to 4.00p.m. OR Workshop B: 6 October (Saturday) 2016, 9:00a.m. to 4.00p.m. Target Audience: General for Catholics and those interested to know more of our Catholic Social Teaching. Do you want to learn how to see clearly with eyes of faith, start living the Gospel in your daily lives and grow in faith? Come learn The Review of Life (ROL) Method as a method of formation and a tool for helping you integrate faith and life. The ROL workshop will provide an introduction to the method followed by an exercise using the three steps in ROL See, Reflect, Act to analyse, reflect and act on an actual life situation. Besides content input there will be discussion and practice sessions. 13 Small Group studies on Catholic Social Teaching Facilitated by Formation Facilitators There are 2 available study guides to choose from. Both Salt of the Earth (SOTE) and Labourers of the Harvest (LOTH) study guides cover the 10 principles of Catholic Social Teaching. These provide both content input on the social teachings as well as a guided reflection structure in each chapter. While SOTE covers the social principles one at a time, the LOTH has a more thematic approach (e.g. money matters, work-life balance etc) and caters to the working group. Dates, Times and Venues: Determined by the group and facilitators. Target Audience: General for Catholics and those interested to know more about our Catholic Social Teaching. Recommended for Neighbourhood Christian Communities, a group of friends at the workplace and parish groups. Contribution: Free. Donations to Caritas Singapore are welcome. Page 10

16 Who we are Caritas Singapore is the official social and community arm of the Catholic Church in Singapore, and the umbrella body for 25 Catholic charities whose work touches the lives of more than 50,000 beneficiaries regardless of race, language or religion. We are also a member of Caritas Internationalis, a global federation of 165 humanitarian organisations. The organisations support a wide array of causes such as the poor, children, youth at risk, families, prisoners, elderly, sick, people with life-limiting illnesses, people with HIV/AIDS, those with disabilities, migrant workers, and people with legal and medical needs. There are more than 70 programmes run by these organisations aimed at helping the people in need. While our main focus is in Singapore, we also reach out to needy groups overseas and respond to disasters like tsunamis and earthquakes. Our initiative - Agape Village which is located at 7A Lorong 8, Toa Payoh, brings together the resources and services of our member organisations under one-roof to provide an integrated one-step connection for our beneficiaries and anyone in the society who needs help. Guiding our work and spirituality is the Catholic Social Teaching.
