I'm currently studying a Bachelor of Primary Education at the University of Sydney and am super passionate about educating young people to achieve incredible things. I have over 2.5 years of tutoring experience and my notes comprehensively cover all HSC syllabus dot points. My advice is work hard and play hard- after all, this is your last year of school! Enjoy your last sports carnivals, muck up days and all the extra curricular activities you do whilst studying diligently and thoroughly to enjoy the all important balance of year 12.

3 Significant People & Ideas: Paul of Tarsus- Backgroundo Born around 3BC-10AD in Tarsus as Saul o Jewish & roman Citizen o Temple leader who persecuted followers of Jesus (Pharisee)- stoned to death a martyr called Stephen o Converted to Christianity in 36AD- became Paul on the road to Damascus o Known as Apostle to the Gentiles o One of the most influential people in the development of Christianity- spread the good news to new cities o Famous for his 3 missionary journeys o Christianity was in its early stages- much debate was still going on e.g. do Christians need to be circumcised, faith vs works, mosaic law (Jewish law) e.g. Kosher Pauls Missionary Journeys o 3 missionary journeys to Asia-Minor, Greece and Europe o Established and fostered Christian communities o After Paul was shunned by the Christians (due to previously persecuting them) he turned to the conversion of the Gentiles 1. Mission AD. Paul, Barnabas & Mark- went to Antioch, Asia Minor, and derbe. Original establishment of churches and converted Sergius Paulus (Roman Proconsul). 2. Mission AD. Paul, Timothy, Silas & Luke- went o Achaia, Corinth, Philippi (where he converted a gaoler), Thessalonica, Athens, Lystra (where he met and baptised timothy). Established first European church, writes epistles (letters) 3. Mission AD. Paul, timothy, Titus, Luke & Church delegates- went to Galatia, Jerusalem, Caesarea, Malta, Asia Minor, Rome. Gathered collection for saints in Jerusalem thus tying Gentiles to the Church, reinforced Christian communities, before he was executed in Rome. Contributiono Wrote many of the Christian scriptures- Thessalonians, Galatians, 1 & 2 Corinthians, Romans, Philippians, Philemon & Epistles (13 letters) o Missionary Journeys- established and fostered churches throughout western world, evangelised as the apostle to the gentiles o Jewish/Mosaic Law- At the council of Jerusalem decided there was no need for Christians to follow mosaic law e.g. no circumcision or Kosher necessary o Evangelist- he was the apostle to the Gentiles and spread Christianity from a small Jewish sect to a global faith o Teachings- 1. Agape love is the most important virtue 2. The Christian faith is for all people- gentiles and Jews alike 3. Righteousness through faith leads to salvation

4 4. No need to follow mosaic law to reach salvation 5. Pauline Christology- Jesus was both human and divine, he was born and died as a human but was ultimately God s son 6. Pneumatology- study of the holy spirit- comes into you on the day of conversion (as seen in the holy spirit coming into Paul on his day of conversion) 7. Afterlife and judgement- all you need is faith in Jesus to get into heaven, everyone will be judged on the last day, and if you have in Jesus you will be given eternal life in heaven 8. It is more Important to read the gospel than perform sacramental activities 9. Predestination- God has a plan for you and has chosen whom to save Impacto Missionary/evangelist- spread the religion throughout the Mediterranean, developed Christianity from a small Jewish sect to establishing many churches it making it a world religion, apostle to the Gentiles o Writings of Christian Scriptures- 1 Thessalonians, Galatians, Romans, Philippians, Philemon, 1 &2 Corinthians, Pauline Epistle (13 letters) o Changed nature of adherence- Christians were no longer required to follow Mosaic law e.g. circumcision, Kosher o Teachings in modern society- used in wedding ceremonies (e.g. love is patient, love is kind), Pauline epistles used in services today o Eucharist- epistles laid down liturgical guidelines, practised in church services today as holy communion o Inspiration to other theologians- 1. Martin Luther King used Paul s teachings of salvation (Ephesians and Galatians) in the protestant reformation 2. Gospel writings of Luke & John were based on Pauls work 3. Thomas Aquinas Natural law commentaries based on Pauls work 4.
