Dear Kingdom Kidz & Parents: Welcome to the 2018 Spring Praize Jam No Limits Devotion Book. We pray that this resource will be a blessing to you and your family. Each week contains scripture and life application that go with one of the songs we will sing at the Praize Jam concert. This resource is a great tool for you to use in a Family Worship setting or to use in your private quiet time. You may choose to focus on one Scripture and thought each day, or do the entire devotion at one time. However, you are strongly encouraged to spend time every day in God s Word. Even if you finish a devotion in one or two days, use the other days to re-read and review and meditate on what God wants to show you from His Word. We want to encourage you to hide God s Word in your heart by learning the Wisdom verses each week. We will send home Wisdom Verse cards as well so you will be able to put them where you will see the verse every day! Please make use of the Prayer Cards in the back of the book. It can be helpful to actually write down our prayers this helps us be more specific in prayer, and helps us stay focused. There are helpful prayer resources in the back of the book to encourage you to be specific with your praises and prayers. As always, you will receive 20 points for every devotion week finished (including scripture memory) and 10 points every time you say a Wisdom Verse to one of your choir leaders (you may say each verse one time every week that s up to 100 points/week including your bonus verses.) All these points go toward helping your choir win Choir of the Year and then the top points leaders from each choir will win a special prize! Can t wait to Shout Praises with you this Spring! 3 1 SHOUT PRAISES! WISDOM VERSE COLOSSIANS 3:16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. God s Word commands us how we are to worship Him. God doesn t start with the teaching and singing. He first tells us that His Word needs to be in us. How do we put God s Word into our lives? The Word of Christ (God s Word) II Timothy 3:15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Richly Dwell Dwell is a fancy word for living in or thinking about, be obsessed by. What do you think of when you hear the word rich? Maybe LOTS OF? Well, if we are to let God s Word richly dwell in us then that means we have to read it and know it and talk about it. Yes? That is why we provide this devotion book for every musical. We want you to know God s word and what God says about singing and worship. Deuteronomy 6:6 These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. Psalm 119:11 Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You. John 15:4 Abide in Me, and I in you (vs5b) apart from Me you can do nothing. 3
Our concert is based on this week s wisdom verse! God s Word tells us how to dwell in His word and teach others through PSALMS, HYMNS and SPIRITUAL SONGS! PSALMS: Hymns of praise; scripture set to music. HYMNS: Address and celebrate God with a purpose of praise and adoration; written as poems then set to music; written in a specific style (meter). SPIRITUAL SONGS: Any song with a spiritual theme including songs of testimony and admonition (counsel or warning). The last part of Colossians 3:16 gives us the command, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. I Thessalonians 5:18 in everything give thanks; for this is God s will for you in Christ Jesus. Ezra 3:11 They sang, praising and giving thanks to the LORD saying, For He is good, for His lovingkindness is upon Israel forever. Psalm 33:2 Give thanks to the LORD with the lyre; sing praises to Him with a harp of ten strings. As we prepare to Shout Praises at our concert, be sure to prepare your hearts to sing with thankfulness in your heart. You will do that by being in God s Word every day. That is the purpose of this devotional book. We call it NO LIMITS because with God, there is no limit to what He can do with and through you. Use this book to read the Scripture God has given us for this concert. Learn your wisdom verses so that God s Word will dwell in you. You may break each week s devo into sections and do a little bit each day; use them as your family s devotion and worship time each week; or just read through the same scriptures each day. It is okay to read them more than once repetition is the key to learning. J Use a prayer card to write your prayer. Use the word PRAY to focus on four parts of prayer. Use the prayer suggestions (see Prayer Focus on page 42) to fill in the blanks. P PRAISE the Lord for Who He is and what He has done for you. Be thankful. R REPENT of any sin in your life. Be specific. A ASK the Lord for whatever it is that you want or need in your life. Be specific. Y YES! Thank God that all His promises are yes! His answer to your request may not be yes, but everything that He has promised He will do! 4

2 LET PRAISE AWAKEN! WISDOM VERSE PSALM 57:7 My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing, yes I will sing praises! BONUS VERSES PSALM 57:8-9 Awake, my glory! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to You among the nations. Psalm 146:1-2 Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul! I will praise the LORD while I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. Psalm 108:1-3 My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing, I will sing praises, even with my soul. Awake, harp and lyre; I will awaken the dawn! I will give thanks to You, O LORD, among the peoples, and I will sing praises to You among the nations. Isaiah 43:21 (vs 16a Thus says the LORD ) The people whom I formed for Myself will declare My praise. Psalm 27:4 One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD and to meditate in His temple. Psalm 42:1-2a As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; Which scripture repeats almost word for word the Wisdom Verse? The word steadfast is a big word that we really do not use much in everyday conversation. Have a parent or older sibling help you find the definition of steadfast. Write some of the synonyms you find on the next page. (Hint: Google steadfast; Webster s dictionary gives you the definition and synonyms.) 7
Fill in the blank with one of the synonyms from above then say this out loud: My heart is O God. When we hide God s Word in our heart, we will be able to agree with the Wisdom Verse that our heart is steadfast (unchanging, unwavering, unhesitating, unflinching, etc.) We must know what God s Word says because so many things in the world want us to believe otherwise. Some versions of the Bible use the word confident (my heart is confident O God). While it is great to be confident in the Lord, the definition of confident is more self related. We can do nothing on our own. We must be steadfast in the Lord and depend completely on Him. Use a prayer card to write your prayer. What did God teach you from this devotion? What can you apply to (put into) your life? 8

3 EVERY PRAISE / NEW DOXOLOGY / OPEN UP THE HEAVENS WISDOM VERSE PSALM 113:3 From the rising of the sun to its setting the name of the LORD is to be praised. Psalm 146:1-2 Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul! I will praise the LORD while I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. Psalm 150 Praise the LORD! Praise God in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His mighty expanse. Praise Him for His mighty deeds; Praise Him according to His excellent greatness. Praise Him with trumpet sound; Praise Him with harp and lyre. Praise Him with timbrel and dancing; Praise Him with stringed instruments and pipe. Praise Him with loud cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD! How many times in Psalm 150 are we told to Praise the Lord? WHO are we to Praise? WHERE are we to Praise? With WHAT are we to Praise? WHO is to Praise? Just in this one Psalm, we are given repeated instruction to Praise the Lord. How many times would you guess we are told to Praise the Lord in the Bible? Revelation 4:8-11 And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within; and day and night they do not cease to say, Holy, Holy, Holy is the LORD GOD, the ALMIGHTY, Who was and Who is and Who is to come. And when the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, to Him who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders will fall down before Him who sits on the throne, and will worship Him who lives forever and ever, and will cast their crowns before 11
the throne, saying, Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of You will they existed and were created. Revelation 19:1, 5-6 After these things I heard something like a loud voice of a great multitude in Heaven, saying, Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God; And a voice came from the throne saying, Give praise to our God, all you His bond-servants, you who fear Him, the small and the great. Then I heard something like the voice of a great multitude and like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying, Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. We are told approximately 250 times in the Bible to Praise the Lord! Revelation gives us exactly what we will do in Heaven for all eternity Praise and Worship the Lord Almighty! Two hundred fifty is not the exact number of commands to praise (depends on which version), but it is a good representation. Do you think if you practiced praising the Lord every day for every time we are told (250x s) it would become a natural part of our every day life? I do. I think that is what God wants us to realize. We were created to praise and glorify God. There is always something for which to praise the Lord. Even in tough times, we can still praise the Lord. Use a prayer card to write your prayer. 15 4 MIGHTY PRAISE WISDOM VERSE PSALM 66:1-2 Shout joyfully to God, all the earth; sing the glory of His name; make His praise glorious. Psalm 9:1-2 I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonders. I will be glad and exult in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High. Psalm 34:1-3 I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul will make its boast in the LORD; the humble will hear it and rejoice. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together. Psalm 145:1-6 I will extol You, my God, O King, and I will bless Your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless You, and I will praise Your name forever and ever. Great is the LORD, and highly to be praised, and His greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall praise Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts. On the glorious splendor of Your majesty and on Your wonderful works, I will meditate. Men shall speak of the power of Your awesome acts, and I will tell of Your greatness. Lamentations 3:22-23 (NKJV) Through the LORD s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is your faithfulness. Psalm 16:8,9,11 I have set the LORD continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices; my flesh also will dwell securely. You will make known to me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; in Your right hand there are pleasures forever. Verse 1 and verse 2 of this song (Mighty Praise) each use a phrase from the scriptures above. Which scripture matches verse 1: Which scripture matches verse 2: 15
All praise belongs to the LORD! Think about the ways in just these few scriptures that we can bless and praise the name of the Lord: give thanks, tell, be glad, exult, sing praise, bless, praise, boast, magnify, exalt, extol. Some of these words are strong words that we don t always use in today s language culture. But they are used for a reason! It is good to be strong and bold when praising the Lord! That is why we sing MIGHTY Praise belongs to You, Lord! We have much to celebrate because of our Mighty King! Ask the Lord to help you sing out strongly and boldly and praise His name at our concert! Use a prayer card to write your prayer. 18 5 IT IS WELL WISDOM VERSE PHILIPPIANS 4:7 (NKJV) And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Psalm 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all. In 1871, tragedy struck Chicago as fire ravaged the city. When it was all over, 300 people were dead and 100,000 were homeless. Horatio Spafford was one of those who tried to help the people of the city get back on their feet. Spafford, a lawyer, who had invested much of his money in downtown Chicago real estate, lost a great deal to the fire. One year earlier in 1870, the Spafford s only son died of scarlet fever at the age of four. Still, following the Great Chicago Fire, Spafford assisted the homeless, impoverished, and grief-stricken people ruined by the fire. In November of 1873, he decided to take his wife and daughters to Europe. Horatio was close to D.L. Moody and Ira Sankey, and he wanted to visit their evangelistic meetings in England, then enjoy a vacation. When an urgent matter detained Horatio in New York, he decided to send his wife, Anna, and their four daughters, Maggie, Tanetta, Annie, and Bessie, on ahead. As he saw them settled into a cabin aboard the luxurious French liner Ville du Havre an unease filled his mind, and he moved them to a room closer to the bow of the ship. He then said good-bye, promising to join them soon. On the night of November 22, 1873, as the luxury liner glided over smooth seas, the passengers were jolted from their bunks, The ship had collided with an iron vessel, and water poured in like Niagra Falls. The Ville du Havre tilted dangerously. Screams, prayers, and oaths merged into a nightmare of unmeasured terror. Passengers clung to posts, tumbled through darkness, and were swept away by powerful currents of icy ocean. Loved ones fell from each other s grasp and disappeared into foaming blackness. Within two hours, the mighty ship vanished beneath 18
the waters. The 226 fatalities included Maggie, Tanetta, Annie, and Bessie. Mrs. Spafford was found nearly unconscious, clinging to a piece of the wreckage. When the 47 survivors landed in Cardiff, Wales, she cabled her husband: Saved Alone. Horatio immediately booked passage to join his wife. En route, on a cold December night, the captain called him aside and said, I believe we are now passing over the place where the Ville de Havre went down. Spafford went to his cabin but found it hard to sleep. He said to himself, It is well; the will of God be done. H.G. Spafford s testimony is so powerful. Sometimes when people have bad things happen in life, they turn away from God and get mad at Him. However, God is Sovereign; God is in control over everything. Even when bad things happen, God will help us. Because of sin, bad things happen. Until we are in heaven, there will be sickness, and accidents. But we cannot focus on those bad things, because God will take everything and make something good from it if we let Him. H.G. Spafford and his wife Anna had another child Bertha. The Spaffords moved to Jerusalem. Bertha was married and helped people. She even started the Spafford Children s Center which helps children with all kinds of medical and physical issues. God took a horrible accident, and gave H.G. Spafford the words to a Hymn that over one hundred years later ministers to people and helps them in difficult times. God used Spafford s daughter to start a children s home that is still helping people today. Yes, we can all say even in times of trouble, It is Well with my Soul! Use a prayer card to write your prayer. Use the word PRAY to focus on four parts of prayer. Use the prayer suggestions (see Prayer Focus on page 42) to fill in the blanks. 21 6 GRACE GREATER THAN OUR SIN / YOUR GRACE IS ENOUGH WISDOM VERSE 1 PETER 5:10 After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you. Psalm 84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD gives grace and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly. Romans 3:24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; 2 Corinthians 12:9 And He has said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Ephesians 2:4-10 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. 2 Peter 3:18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen Definitions of GRACE: 1) God s kindness and undeserved favor; 2) getting what we do not deserve; 3) or try this: God s Riches At Christ s Expense There is so much more to God s grace than what we can cover in one week! Here are three basic principles where we can focus: 1. Salvation 2. Suffering 3. Service 21
First, God s Grace is the only way to be saved. Look at the Ephesians 2 scripture. What are the two key words for salvation? through. There is nothing we can do to earn salvation. We cannot be good enough; go to church enough; read the Bible enough. All those are works and they are things we do to learn more about Jesus. If you have never placed your faith in Jesus Christ and given your life to Him, you can do that now! Go to the bottom of this week s devo for scripture and prayer. Maybe get a parent/guardian/sibling to go help you. Second, God s Grace will help us through suffering/difficult times. Because there is sin in this world, there are difficult circumstances. There are things in our life that happen and we do not understand. This is all because we live in an imperfect world. You may have already been through difficult times lost a loved one, had a family member struggle with cancer, dealt with bullies at school. Whatever it is that is difficult in life, God s GRACE is so much bigger. What is the word used in 2 Corinthians 12:9? My grace is. I love our Wisdom Verse! What four things will God do for us when we go through suffering? Third, God s GRACE enables us to serve Him. 2 Peter 3 tells us that we are to in grace and of our Lord Jesus Christ. We grow by reading God s Word, praying, attending church/sunday School/choir. God s grace helps us serve when you love your neighbor as yourself, when we pray and are kind to those who are not nice to us, when we show the Fruit of the Spirit. (We could go on and on.) Here is a practical reminder of what grace looks like in our lives: Growing, not perfect Responsible for my choices and actions Attitudes in suffering are pleasing to God Capacity to love and serve others increases Extending God s grace to others (undeserved kindness) 22
Use a prayer card to write your prayer. Use the word PRAY to focus on four parts of prayer. Use the prayer suggestions (see Prayer Focus on page 42) to fill in the blanks. What did God teach you from this devotion? What can you apply to (put into) your life? God s grace can be applied in your life. Follow these Scriptures: A-Admit to God you re a sinner B-Believe that Jesus is the Son of God C-Confess your faith in Jesus Christ Romans 3:23 Romans 6:23 Romans 10:9 Romans 10:10 Romans 10:13 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved. 23
Do you believe this Scripture? You can pray right now to receive Jesus: Dear Jesus, Thank You for making a way for me to be saved and have eternal life in Heaven. I admit that I am a sinner and only You can save me from my sin. I believe that You died on the cross and rose from the dead to save me. I confess my sin and ask for Your forgiveness. Please forgive me from my sin and come into my heart and save me. I give You my heart. Thank You for the free gift of eternal life. I pray that I will learn more about You every day and follow Your way. Thank You Jesus for the gift of salvation. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen. SAY YOUR WISDOM VERSE Peter 5:10 After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you. 26 7 HOSANNA! WISDOM VERSE ISAIAH 12:2 Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation. Matthew 21:14-16 And the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that He had done, and the children who were shouting in the temple, Hosanna to the Son of David, they became indignant and said to Him, Do You hear what these children are saying? And Jesus said to them, Yes; have you never read, Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies You have prepared praise for Yourself? Psalm 8:2a From the mouth of infants and nursing babes You have established strength As children, God has given you the special gift of trust and praise that only you can give Him. God created you from your birth to give Him praise and adoration. In Matthew the priests and religious leaders were not happy that the children were praising Jesus. But Jesus made sure they knew better. Jesus loves hearing children praise and bless His Name! God has given you an incredible opportunity to shout Hosanna and to lead our church congregation in praise and worship to the Lord. Take time to make sure that your heart is prepared to do so. Hosanna means save now and is used as an expression of adoration, praise, and joy. Let Jesus use you to lead in adoration and praise of His Name. 26

8 BEHOLD OUR GOD! WISDOM VERSE ISAIAH 25:9 Behold, this is our God for whom we have waited that He might save us. This is the LORD for whom we have waited; Let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation. Isaiah 40: Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, and marked off the heavens by the span, and calculated the dust of the earth by the measure, and weighed the mountains in a balance and the hills in a pair of scales? Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, or as His counselor has informed Him? With whom did He consult and who gave Him understanding? And who taught Him in the path of justice and taught Him knowledge and informed Him of the way of understanding? Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket, and are regarded as a speck of dust on the scales; Behold, He lifts up the islands like fine dust. Even Lebanon is not enough to burn, nor its beasts enough for a burnt offering. All the nations are as nothing before Him, they are regarded by Him as less than nothing and meaningless. To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare with Him? Isaiah 45:5 I am the LORD, and there is no other; besides Me there is no God. Isaiah 45:18 For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens (He is the God who formed the earth and made it, He established it and did not create it a waste place, but formed it to be inhabited), I am the LORD, and there is none else. Who has held the oceans in His hands? Who has numbered every grain of sand? Who has given counsel to the Lord? Who can question any of His words? Who can teach the One Who knows all things? Who has felt the nails upon His hands bearing all the guilt of sinful man? This song asks six questions. There is only one answer! 29
There is one LORD GOD and there is no one like HIM. No one and no thing can compare to Him. He is the only One Who can save us and forgive us of our sins. He is the only One worthy of our praise and adoration. We will come before Him with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. What reminds you of God s greatness and that nothing can compare to Him? Use a prayer card to write your prayer. Use the word PRAY to focus on four parts of prayer. Use the prayer suggestions (see Prayer Focus on page 42) to fill in the blanks. What did God teach you from this devotion? What can you apply to (put into) your life? SAY YOUR WISDOM VERSE Isaiah 25:9 Behold, this is our God for whom we have waited that He might save us. This is the LORD for whom we have waited; Let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.
