October MOPS Consignment Sale October 30 12pm-Tell Me More Class Church Family, I was struck this week by the level of vulnerability and the measure of trust that are a part of pastoring a church. During this week I had three separate meetings, or better, times of sharing, with congregants. All three involved a fair amount of risk and vulnerability on the part of the one sharing, as well as an exercise in trust whereby they entrusted what they were saying to me. In all three we had an opportunity to pray and I was struck each time with the high privilege it is to exercise this kind of ministry. So I want to say two things related to that; one, THANK YOU for giving me that honor. My prayer for myself is that I remain deserving of your trust and your openness to share at the level with which many of you share. I count it an honor to be taken into your circle of entrusted individuals. You Christmas Choir Men s/kids Campout don't HAVE to do that, but you choose to and I'm grateful. Secondly, I want to commend this kind of ministry to you as well. I know that many of you already function in this kind of role with one another. I'm grateful to pastor a church that cares well for each other. If you've never ventured into this kind of trusting relationship and sharing, I commend it to you wholeheartedly. As the listener and as the pray-er, you'll be blessed. As you trust your life with vulnerability to one another, you'll be blessed as well by sharing. What a difference it will make in our church and in our community if we're doing this kind of authentic, discipleship building life with one another! It's already happening! Let's continue on! Men s Campout We ll be camping October 7-9 at the Ranger Creek off Highway 410. Kids are welcome to attend, boys and girls. Sign up at the Ministry Center. The cost will be $10 per adult and $5 per kid, with a maximum of $20 per family. Bring all your kids and grandkids.

3 What s New With Our Youth? What s Coming Up... Student Leadership: At Wabash Youth Group, we aim to reach kids with the gospel, build them in faith, and send them to reach others. It s obvious tt Wednesday youth group and Sunday school reaches and builds kids, but we don t do much I those programs to send kids. With student leadership, we take the next step in discipleship by sending kids to reach and disciple others. If you d like your kids to do their faith instead of just hearing about it, please bring them to the student leadership meetings at the Unger residence. Contact Ben for information for dates and times. Sunday School: The format is a little different this year. We will be using the D6 curriculum (d6family.com/ d6curriculum). The lesson topics are the same for all ages of our children s department and some adult small groups, but the content and lesson plan will be age-appropriate. We have separate middle and high school classes on Sunday mornings, with middle-schoolers learning in the Dahl Center lobby with teachers Dianna Kerr and Gwen Stewart. High schoolers will meet in the youth rooms with Phil Stewart and Ann Lenting. Join us at 11am. Trey drops the photo bomb on Dylan, Natalie, Angela, Shyler, and Nicole. How You Can Help Wednesday Parent Space: I want to set up a space in church for parents to read, rest, use wifi, or just hang out while their kids are at youth group, so they don t have to drive all the way home and back. If you want to help me find and set up that space, let me know. Do D6 with your kid: The idea behind D6 comes from Deuteronomy 6:4-9, which commands parents to teach their kids about God. The point of teaching Genesis to all ages in our church is so that you can talk about it at home and as you go about life. You can join a D6 Sunday school class or you can request the lessons from me. Recruit and Invite: Please invite another parent to send their kids to our youth group. Over the years, I ve seen my core parents help save so many kids by simply inviting and driving their own kids friends. Will you let God use you to reach another family? 4 Page 4 CHILDREN S And family MINISTRY We are so excited to enjoy our first annual pumpkin patch! Before we get to pick the pumpkins we just wanted to share with you how the pumpkin patch came to be. If you remember, last October we read the Pumpkin Parable to the children during the children s blessing. Little did we know that this would be a foreshadowing of what was to come. This last spring, Lynette Stair, Anthony s mom, had the great idea of planting a pumpkin patch and getting the children involved with planting the seeds. Obviously none of our land here at Wabash was ready to grow a garden so we had to find some one to plow and rototill the land. By the time this was done and the ground ready for planting, it was getting pretty late in the season to be planting pumpkins, especially if we wanted to enjoy the fruits of our labor come October. We went ahead and decided to plant the pumpkin patch and call it a trial year. Little did we know, in the mean time, Lynette s compost pile had began sprouting over a hundred pumpkin sprouts, from the prior falls waste. So on one of our last Sunday School days in June, the children got to go out and plant a few rows with the pumpkin seeds. They were so excited about it and we prayed over our pumpkin patch that God would bless of with a great harvest and we prayed for the hearts of everyone who would receive a pumpkin come fall. Then, Lynette and Rich took all those pumpkin sprouts and planted the rest of the pumpkin patch. So you could say, much of the pumpkin patch was from the garbage, the waste of the previous year. Now it s October and we have over 150 pumpkins!! We just thought this was a great reminder of God s promises of how God can work. How He can take our garbage, our waste, our brokenness and make it beautiful and use it for good. Despite our own efforts or lack there of, God will use us according to His purpose. Blessings from your Children s and Family Ministry of Wabash Church Isaiah 55:8-13 (NIV) For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. Instead of the thornbush will grow the juniper, and instead of briers the myrtle will grow. This will be for the LORD s renown, for an everlasting sign, that will endure forever. We are so excited for you to come enjoy our pumpkin patch!

5 Volume 1, Issue 1 Page 5 NO Sunday School October 2 nd for Cider Sunday or the 16 th for the Deacon s Harvest Festival. Our Sunday School classes are off to a great start and we are really loving the D6 curriculum! We have all of our lead teachers but we really are in need of two more helpers, one in the K/1 class and one in the 2s and 3s class. MOPS is fellowship for moms of children (in the womb through highschool) who need coffee, friends and Jesus. MOPS meets every other Thursday at 9:30 in Garrett Hall. Moppetts is a ministry for the children while their parents are at MOPS. We currently serve over 60 children! This year we are using a Bible based curriculum so the children are being cared for and are learning about Jesus at the same time! Thank you so much to all our Moppett workers!! You are a blessing to these children and these mothers! With the amount of children we are serving we are still in need of a few more volunteers and have a few paid positions available. Contact the church or Elizabeth Wilcox for more information. Children are a vital part of our church family and so are the people who help to teach them. We want to say a huge thank you to our numerous children s ministry volunteers! We could not do this without you! You truly are sharing the love of Jesus with these children and it does make a difference!
