Show This is Love video BACK UP: Read Matt 27:54-28:9 (or just 28:1-9) How do we know that Jesus Christ IS the promised Jewish Messiah The SON OF GOD? and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. Romans 1:4, NKJV. Notice He WAS and IS worshipped by His followers...behold, Jesus met them, saying, Rejoice! So they came and held Him by the feet and WORSHIPED HIM. Matthew 28:9b, NKJV. OT Prophecies of old foretold of Him His final authority (De 18) I will raise up a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites. I will tell that prophet what to say, and he will tell the people everything I command him. I will personally deal with anyone who will not listen to the messages the prophet proclaims on my behalf. Deuteronomy 18:18, 19, NLT. His redemptive mission (Is 53) Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God for his own sins! But he was wounded and crushed for our sins. He was beaten that we might have peace. He was whipped, and we were healed! All of us have strayed away like sheep. We have left God s paths to follow our own. Yet the LORD laid on him the guilt and sins of us all. Isaiah 53:4-6, NLT. Page 1 of 5

2 Even the details of His crucifixion (Ps 22) My God, my God! Why have you forsaken me? Why do you remain so distant? Why do you ignore my cries for help? They divide my clothes among themselves and throw dice for my garments. Psalms 22:1, 18, NLT. Because of WHO Jesus is, the fundamental Jewish covenants were fulfilled and transformed HE introduced the promised NEW Covenant. The day will come, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and Judah. This covenant will not be like the one I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand and brought them out of the land of Egypt. They broke that covenant, though I loved them as a husband loves his wife, says the LORD. But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel on that day, says the LORD. I will put my laws in their minds, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. Jeremiah 31:31-33, NLT. (EXPLAIN and COMMENT on above) Likewise, because of Christ s WORK on the cross Even the Sabbath has changed HE is now our Sabbath REST Free from the law, we rest from our works in Christ! AND Since Christ rose on the first day of the week (Sunday) we now gather to worship on SUNDAY mornings in commemoration of Christ s resurrection Page 2 of 5

3 Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread Acts 20:7a, NKJV. On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come. 1 Corinthians 16:2, NKJV. SUNDAY became, The Lord s Day (NLT) On every LORD S DAY, each of you should put aside some amount of money in relation to what you have earned and save it for this offering. 1 Cor 16:2, NLT. NOW, every Sunday we focus upon the greatest and most important work of God. Christ s resurrection! Because He died we can have our sins FORGIVEN God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21, NIV. BECAUSE HE ROSE we can have eternal life! Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 1 Peter 1:3, NKJV. That s what baptism is a picture of Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, Romans 6:4, 5, NKJV. Page 3 of 5

4 If He DIDN T raise And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up--. 1 Corinthians 15:13-15 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable. 1 Corinthians 15:17-19, NKJV. But He DID rise! But now Christ IS risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 1 Corinthians 15:20, NKJV. Christ s resurrection gives us a future hope And now our salvation is complete because of Christ s resurrection o Because He died for our sins we can be forgiven o Because He rose from the dead we will likewise follow in resurrection.. THE TRUE GOSPEL Moreover, brethren, I declare to you THE GOSPEL which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, IF you hold fast that word which I preached to you--unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, NKJV.
