Gray Alison 5515 Chester Street Arlington, TN (901) COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES The first section of this course deals with personal witnessing its content, motivation, technique, and problems. An attempt is made to lead each student to become an effective soul winner. The course requirements follow. The second section of the course deals with evangelism in the church. An attempt will be made to teach the student how to use the organizations of the local church in a total program of evangelism. The church revival will be dealt with in terms of preparation, preaching, invitation, and conservation. A training program for developing an evangelistic church will be presented. COURSE REQUIREMENTS 1. MEMORY VERSES Each student is required to learn the daily memory verses. Pop tests will be given on memory verses. These verses are also included on sectional and final tests. On days when pop tests are given, the class roll in not always taken. Those not taking the pop test are assumed to be absent. Therefore, a paper must always be turned in. 2 2 On daily pop tests, students are required to write verses on one-half of a sheet of paper. Please include the date with your name in the top right hand corner of the sheet. name date reference verse written on half-sheet of paper reference verse written on half-sheet of paper Points are deducted if a student does not follow this instruction. When the daily verse is not known, a student is given some credit for any verse and reference that is correctly written. Memory verse cards may be purchased in the Bookstore for $2.00. The verses must be learned exactly as presented on the cards, or in the NASB. Opportunity is given to make up a pop text that is missed because of an excused absence or tardy. A time for these make-up tests will be announced during the last week of classes. The verses for make-up tests are chosen from the whole list and not just from the day missed. No make-up test is given for an unexcused absence or tardy. Grades for daily pop tests count twenty percent of the final grade. 2. EXAMINATIONS In addition to the daily pop tests, three sectional exams and one final examination will be given on the dates given on the class calendar. The sectional exams count thirty percent of the final grade, and the final examination counts twenty-five percent of the final grade. These examinations are comprehensive and include the memory verses and material given during class lectures. In case of an excused absence, a student must meet with the professor and schedule a time for the make-up test. 3. REQUIRED READING Each student is required to read four books selected from the evangelism bibliography. One of these is to be a biography. Two of these books should deal with personal witnessing, and two should deal with church evangelism. COURSE REQUIREMENTS (cont d.)

3 3 YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT FOR THE COURSE UNLESS ALL FOUR BOOKS ARE READ! 4. SOUL-WINNING INTERVIEWS A primary aim of this class is to lead each person to become an effective soul-winner. Students are required to put into practice the things which are studied in the classroom. The suggested methods of presenting the Gospel to a lost person, using the Bible, and bringing the person to a time of decision may be used. Three typed reports of soul-winning interviews must be submitted during the class period on the dates given on the class calendar. The form of the reports is to be an informal essay written in the first person. Scripture verses used in the presentation of the Gospel are to be included. These interviews must be with lost people. Any interview with a person who claims to be a Christian will not be acceptable. A grade of "F" is recorded if this requirement is not satisfactorily met. CHURCH EVANGELISM NOTEBOOK Each student is required to submit a church evangelism notebook. The notebook counts twenty percent of the final grade. The notebook must include the following: 1. Preparation for Revival A. Public Relations 1. External public relations before the meeting. 2. Internal public relations before the meeting. 3. External public relations during the meeting. 4. Internal public relations during the meeting. B. Church Preparation (Detailed) C. Soul-Winning Training Program 2. Preaching during Revival A. Morning messages for an eight-day meeting (Scripture and Outline) B. Evening messages for an eight-day meeting (Scripture and Outline) 3. Include this in the front of your revival notebook. Secure

4 4 other material from pastors and other ministers, as well as other sources. CLASS ATTENDANCE Students have a maximum of nine absences during the course term. Three tardy marks are equal to one absence. LATE WORK Work turned in late will incur a deduction of two points for each day late. The student is responsible to get late papers to his or her instructor. No papers accepted after the last day of class. CLASS CONDUCT: 1. All talking should stop when the bell rings. Students should be attentive to the prayer requests of other class members. 2. No one is to leave the classroom until the class ends unless it is an emergency. 3. Computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices may only be used for taking notes or other class related activities. Surfing the internet, texting, tweeting, etc. are not permitted. Students who abuse this policy will not be allowed to bring such devices to class. 4. Class is not dismissed until the professor dismisses the class (even after the bell rings). 5. Students should exhibit a Christ-like attitude and demeanor at all times. After a warning, points will be deducted from the student s grade for violation of any of the above rules. MEETINGS WITH THE PROFESSOR: Usually the professor is available to meet with students immediately after class. For appointments at other times, please see the professor or Mrs. Carol Wilson in the D. Min. office on the 2 nd floor. GRADING The following formula is used for Evangelism classes:

5 5 Evangelistic Sermon/Paper 5% Daily Pop Tests 20% Final Exam 25% Sectional Exams 30% Evangelism Notebook 20% GRADING SCALE: Grade point averages are determined on a 12-point grading system. The grade point value of each letter grade is: A quality points per semester hour A quality points per semester hour B quality points per semester hour B quality points per semester hour B quality points per semester hour C quality points per semester hour C quality points per semester hour C quality points per semester hour D quality points per semester hour D quality points per semester hour D quality points per semester hour F 69 and below 0.0 quality points per semester hour The 12-point grading scale allows a student to graduate possibly with a perfect 4.0 average. A grade point average of 2.0, however, will constitute the lowest passing average to graduate. Anything below 2.0 will be the basis for probation/suspension purposes.

6 6 PLAN OF SALVATION The following plan of salvation is the one prepared by Dr. Gray Allison (based on a 3 point outline by J.B. Leavell, Sr.) and suggested for use in witnessing to lost persons. Students in this class are required to learn this plan.
