1 LOVE AND LIFE A Christian Sexual Morality Guide For Teens By Coleen Kelly Mast is already aligned with the new USCC Bishop s document, Catechetical Formation in Chaste Living: Guidelines for Curriculum and Publication, Design LOVE AND LIFE is a positive presentation of God's plan for life and love aligned with the official teachings of the Catholic Church in the US and the Vatican. -It gives parents the intimate information to be taught at home with the parent guide, -and provides complete catechetical support lessons for the parish in the student and teacher guides. LOVE AND LIFE uses Sacred Scripture, the Catechism, Vatican Documents, poems, letters, quizzes and slogans created by teens for teens in a lively, down to earth commentary. The program has been carefully designed and developed over 20 years of practical use with teens. It communicates on their terms, but with a level of challenge that motivates them to love the church and her teachings. It works on a step-by-step progression that involves teens, parents and teachers in interactive exercises, discussions and creative writing. LOVE AND LIFE A Positive and Proven Program for Teen Chastity Topics: * God s Plan vs. the World s Plan for Love * The gifts of Masculinity and Femininity * How to Develop True Friendships * Original Sin and it s Effects on the Theology of the Body * Developing Virtues to Overcome your Weaknesses * Grace and Guidance from our Holy Mother the Church * Human Dignity and Emotional Maturity * Freedom, Conscience, Laws and Choices, Commandments and Beatitudes * Romance, Attraction, Infatuation, Feelings, Behavior and Self-Control * How to Avoid and Resist Temptation
2 * What to do with Guilt? Penance and Eucharist as gifts for the journey * The Community of Role Models the Saints * Listening for your Call to Vocation * Sacramentality of Marriage, Love-giving and Life-giving; being Pro-Life * Pledge for Purity Content: *FAITHFUL to Church documents *POSITIVE approach to Church doctrine *REINFORCES Christian attitudes and values *SUPPORTS role of parents as educators according to The Truth and Meaning of Human Sexuality *PREPARED and tested over twenty years by professionals, parents and teens *INTERACTIVE exercises, discussions, creative writing *UNIT REVIEWS and parent-teen discussions at the end of each unit Exercises: Included in the student text are exercises that teach while promoting lively response. Students will: * Discover new ways to "Make Friends" * Find out what "resisting temptation" really means * Become an ad agent for Virtue * Analyze the messages in popular music * Take quizzes on their Love levels * Talk with parents on old and new topics * Shape their confidence * Be with God Comments from others: I have added your Love and Life chastity education series to the list of textbooks that have been approved for use in the Catholic schools and religious ed programs of the Archdiocese of Chicago. I know that these books are Catholic in their presentation of human sexuality and bear the Imprimatur of Bishop Imesch. Thank you for all that you do to help young Catholics to recognize the value of chastity, and to encourage them in living it. Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I. Archbishop of Chicago. December 12, 2006 This Love and Life program is phenomenal and I'm not sure how we missed it while researching... Kristen Pearson, Family Life/Respect Life Office Archdiocese of New York. June 28 th, 2007 Reading this Love and Life book made me want to go back to church a 17year old young man from the inner city. LOVE AND LIFE focuses on the true meaning of Christian Family Living. It is through the family that we first experience God's love for us. And it is the family that provides the context for understanding sexual maturity as a life-giving and life-
3 supportive gift from God that respects ALL life and which gives us special powers in God's plan for creation. The Sacraments, the liturgy, our prayers, devotions, sacrifices and faithfulness to the commandments, together with the practice of our love for God and neighbor, are presented as the spiritual resources that we need to know to serve God as mature, responsible Christians. About the course and materials: LOVE AND LIFE is self-contained and may be used with any Junior or Senior High School curriculum. The Student Workbook includes 24 lessons divided into 4 units which may be learned during a weekend retreat or in class for a month, or longer, depending on your individual curriculum needs. The PARENT'S GUIDE provides an informative overview of the entire course with an easy to understand explanation of Catholic teaching on sexual morality on issues such as pornography, masturbation, test-tube babies, abortion, cohabitation and contraception. Included are: helpful suggestions for parent-teen communication and family activities; specific lesson objectives, practical answers to today's teen dating problems; benefits of chastity education in the home, discussions of modesty and self-discipline. The TEACHER'S GUIDE includes comprehensive teaching notes and class discussion guides as well as a complete duplication of the student text. Also included are specific lesson objectives, helpful suggestions for the exercises and suggested readings. For use: * with teens (12 to 17 years) *mother-daughter or father-son groups * at home * individually * in the classroom or parish * in families, school and CCD * in groups * retreat settings Order a set of all 3 books to present to your parish from or 877-6RESPECT Sample overview pages:
