The data informs us that simply doing something might be more effective than crafting an elaborate strategy. Churches who do something, in respect to evangelism, are churches who are much more effective than churches who don t. 39 WHAT IS THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH? (De Young / Gilbert) The image The mission of the church is to go into the world and make disciples by declaring the gospel of Jesus Christ in the power of the Spirit and gathering these disciples into churches, that they might worship and obey Jesus Christ now and in eternity to the glory of God the Father. 39

COMEBACK CHURCHES STETZER & DODSON (Pg. 18) The image More Change Less A CHURCH NEEDS Refocusing Reenergising Restructuring Restarting IF IT IS Stagnant in size. (It needs to have a clearer focus on evangelism and outreach.) Declining in size. (It needs to deal with some internal issues and begin to reach its community again.) A church that has experienced substantial decline. (It needs large internal changes and a new outreach strategy.) Near death. (A church with a long history of decline that will close if current trends continue. It needs to restart with new leadership or an entirely new church. 44

The image Change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change.
The image When our Lord and Master Jesus Christ said, Repent (Mt 4:17), he willed the entire life of believers to be one of repentance.
The image And Jesus came and said to them, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in 2 the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. Matthew 28:18-20
The image Q&A
The image I LIKE THE WAY I DO EVANGELISM BETTER THAN THE WAY YOU DON T DO EVANGELISM. - DL MOOODY The data is clear. Evangelism is not easy, but it may not be as difficult as we might think. The data informs us that simply doing something might be more effective than crafting an elaborate strategy. Unfortunately though, there are a significant number of churches that simply aren t engaging in any evangelistic activity. (Source: The State of Church Planting in US, 2016 page 19)
WHAT IS THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH? (Stetzer) The image We affirm that the missio Dei is the mission of the triune God to glorify Himself. God does so in this world by redeeming sinful humans and, in the future, restoring corrupted creation. The Father sent the Son to accomplish this redemption and sends the Spirit to apply this redemption to the hearts of men and women. Included in God's mission is the missio ecclesia whereby He empowers the church for witness and service that leads to witness. Believers are called to share the gospel with people so they can come to know Christ. Moving from God, through the church, to the world, God's redemptive work results in people of every tribe, tongue and nation responding in lifelong worship of the God. Ultimately the missio Dei will encompass all of creation when God creates a new heaven and new earth. 52
BREAKING THE MISSIONAL CODE STETZER & PUTNAM The image Missiology is birthed from our understanding of who Jesus is. Jesus said, "As the Father has sent me, I am sending you" (John 20:21). Who Christ is and how he is sent matters. How we do mission flows from our understanding of God's mission and directs our missiology. How we do church is grounded in Scripture but applied in culture. Thus we have the intersection of who Jesus is and what he has sent us to do (Christology); the forms and strategies we use to to most effectively expand the kingdom where we are sent (missiology); and the expression of the New Testament church that is most appropriate in this context (ecclesiology). 53
