5 Page 5 Vacation Bible School a Wonderful Success!! Please accept MY PERSONAL THANK YOU for YOUR PART in helping make this summer ministry for children a reality. What an awesome week in the Lord with so many children learning and sharing the Word! Certainly, a wonderful time of outreach and ministry was offered to children in our congregation as well as numerous children in our surrounding community. Praise God for a joy-filled week that focuses on sharing the Gospel to children. Many, many thanks are in order for the blessing of this year s volunteer staff and numerous donations. It has been 20 years of fun at VBS and I am still overwhelmed and so very thankful for the outpouring of dedication found in the army of volunteers that took the time to care that God s Word reached the children participating at Vacation Bible School. Please accept my PERSONAL Thank You for YOUR PART in this program. Whether it was through sharing your time or talents, purchasing food items, cookies or candy or Kool-Aid, offering financial donations, helping in decorating or set-up and tear down, EACH PART WAS SO IMPORTANT AND SO VERY MUCH APPRECIATED BY MYSELF AND OUR KIDS! THANK YOU!! We once again had a volunteer staff of over 70 young people and adults, as well as financial aid from numerous individuals, needed decorating supplies and great donations of food items from so many families. This year, as in so many years prior, YOU really exemplified the true HEART OF IMMANUEL by sharing your love with little children. So many of you came to the call of the financial need we face every year and because of your generosity so many children heard the Gospel message of Jesus. Your belief in our church, its outreach ministry and the leaders of tomorrow.the children, allowed our VBS staff to offer a fantastic program with no services cut or delineated! Truly, a program as large as this summer ministry for parish and community children could not succeed without each and every one of you along with your kind donations; Thank you!! As always, VBS is a huge undertaking, but it is one that is done with much devotion and love of children. It is a blessing to have the opportunity to reach out to children and welcome them here at Immanuel as we share the Gospel with them. Thank you to all the parents who allowed us the privilege of teaching your children and for your concern and desire for them to grow stronger in their ever developing faith. It was a wonderful week!! Once again, thank you for all who helped through volunteering, donations, prayers, and through participation. God s blessings to your family for a safe and carefree summer! Shipwrecked Captain Betsy Bourassa VBS Superintendent and Parish Assistant.
6 Page 6 Attention 2019 Public School Confirmation Students Grades 7 & 8 Time to start thinking about your upcoming Confirmation Class (Please give the church office a call at and ask for Betsy to register your son or daughter for the 2019 class.) Also, please watch for continued information regarding Sunday Morning Classes. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all Wisdom. Colossians 3:16 May God direct and lead you in such as time as this when your young adult now has the privilege to attend confirmation classes. As a family in Christ redeemed, I want to encourage you to make every effort in allowing your child to begin and continue his or her spiritual growth in the study of God s Word through confirmation instruction classes. With a complete and thorough study of the Lutheran doctrine, your son or daughter will now take steps into their personal growth as a young Christian adult. As a parent, you are allowing your children the great gift of confirmation instruction and with that, the joy found in being a child of God. Beginning on September 9, Public School Confirmation Classes will meet on Sunday mornings at 8:45am at Immanuel Lutheran School 7th grade classroom. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to call me at the church office Once again, I encourage you as a parent to plant the seeds of a faith-filled walk through confirmation instruction. As the months draw closer to September, more information will be coming your way. For now, please start thinking about this rite of passage for your son or daughter as part of their Christian faith. God s blessings to your family and may you find the joy in celebrating a new season of Christian growth and development with your so or daughter. In His leading, Betsy Bourassa Betsy Bourassa Parish Assistant in Christian Education and Youth Ministries
7 Page 7 Help us welcome Pastor Garcia Pastor Garcia and his family will soon be joining us! Moving to a new home in a new community can be a daunting transition. Friendship Guild will be assisting Immanuel members in providing a warm welcome by organizing a collection of gift cards, gift certificates, and pantry items for the Garcia s. The gift cards and gift certificates could be to your favorite local store or restaurant to provide a taste of what Bay City has to offer. Suggested pantry items are frequently purchased products such as laundry products, cleaning products, paper products and non-perishable food items (please ensure items are not past their used by date). Please look for a collection station in the Church Narthex where a Friendship Guild member will be collecting items before church services during the month of July. Thank you! As you may know, our Pastor-elect Garcia is in transition -- from a seminarian graduate in May, through ordination in July and then installation in August as the Associate Pastor here at Immanuel. While we eagerly await his arrival and are fully prepared to take him under our care, there are transition costs that he and his family are incurring. As a courtesy, we would like to be able to assist Pastor-elect Garcia and his family though this period prior to his arrival. If you would be able to assist beyond your first-fruits giving, mark your gift "associate pastor transition costs" and place in the offering plate or drop off at the church office. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated... Living a Stewardship Lifestyle When we discuss stewardship, we may immediately start to think of giving our time and money. Stewardship certainly involves giving and serving, but even more, our stewardship is incorporated into a way of life. It does not consist of just isolated events. When God s word and love fill our hearts and minds, our stewardship becomes a lifestyle. As a lifestyle, it defines who we are and what we do. It is our vocation. With transformed hearts, we express our faith in the way we live our lives. Through faith, God provides motivation and power to live the Christian life in a growing awareness of redeeming grace. In defining stewardship, W.H. Greever wrote, Christian stewardship is the practice of the Christian religion. It is neither a department of life nor a sphere of activity. It is the Christian conception of life as a whole, manifested in attitudes and actions. Our faithful stewardship, as it reflects God s love, becomes our approach to life. It is more being than doing. Our deeds of stewardship such as using time wisely or helping the needy arise out of being stewards. Stewards are who we are. Stewardship is a while life response to God out of gratitude and thanksgiving for all of His love, goodness, and mercy. T.A. Kantonen wrote, The life of stewardship is nothing less than total devotion to the Christ Who is known as a real, living personal presence in the hearts of believers, a genuine loyalty that is expressed not in mere opinion or sentiment but in character and conduct. It does not take talented people to be faithful stewards, but it takes all there is of us. It takes our total commitment. Stewardship is our response to God s abundant grace in all aspects of life. This faithful stewardship is only possible when we acknowledge our sinfulness and our forgiveness through faith in Christ. God gives us faith so He can use us to carry out His plan, which is to save all people. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, we acknowledge God in all things and in all places. As faithful stewards, we know that all we have belongs to Him so we can give generously of our time, talents, and money.
