2 NOTICES Stewardship Currently we are distributing a letter and material for our annual stewardship program. The Church Wardens in conjunction with the Parish Council have decided not to have a full program this year but to ask parishioners to renew their pledges and commitment to St John's and All Saints by completing the forms available in the church last week and today and also sent wherever possible via . We have much to thank God for in our parish life as we continue to pray for a new Incumbent. The locum period provides us with time for reflection and planning for the future. I commend to you this request remembering the many gifts God bestows on us as God's people in this place. Locum vicar writes, Whose responsibility is the ministry of St John s Toorak and All Saints Kooyong parish? Some may say the Diocese of Melbourne and the Archbishop. There are occasions when the Diocese does assist particularly in new areas and for specialist ministries. Others say the local communities surrounding both churches. It is probably true that in past years the broader community did take some responsibility to ensure the financial viability of the local parish church and especially when major repairs were necessary to an historic building like we have here at St Johns or an icon building like our Cathedral. The day to day running expenses for ministry however is the prime responsibility of the gathered community who call this parish their spiritual home. Members of the parish, both regular church attenders and those who come occasionally have a responsibility to provide for a variety of needs including; The cost of clergy Pastoral ministry in the parish and beyond Parish education and other activities Mission and outreach in the parish and beyond Parish assessment paid to the Diocese for theological education and other services. Maintenance of buildings and grounds. New projects. The Churchwardens and Parish Council have the responsibility to work out a budget for the parish each year. The budget takes into account the various recurring costs and expenses for the year and is prepared with the vision action plan for the parish as the basis. The financial year for the

3 parish is from the 1 st October 2015 to the 30 th September 2016 and the budget for the coming year, yet to be approved by the Parish Council and presented to the Annual meeting on the 22 nd November is expected to show a deficit of around $50,000. We can respond to the challenges facing both the broader church and our parish in a variety of ways; By giving money regularly and prayerfully By offering your time and skills, including membership of the Parish Council and Ministry team. By supporting the church and those in need beyond the parish. We have been blessed in many ways over the years and the ministry offered has been sustained and grown by those who have gone before us. We have a fine set of buildings; many dedicated and committed people who continue to hold the traditions of the parish and the place of faith as central to their own lives and the local community. We cannot live only on the benefactors of the past. We must also make our contribution to our ongoing life as spoken by St Paul to the Church at Corinth, let everyone give as their heart tells them, neither grudgingly nor under compulsion, for God loves the person who gives gladly. If you have not renewed your giving please pray and think about this request and act as you think best for your circumstances. Your time, talents and giving are important to the life of our community of faith now and always. Shalom Ray. The Eucharistic Setting is by Melbourne musician Thomas Heywood. 4 NOTICES Blessing of Pets A special thank you to all who helped organise last week s service. The weather was fine, the sausage sizzle a delight and I am sure all who attended, along with their pets enjoyed the occasion. Let s make it a bigger and more community orientated event in Annual Meeting reports Those responsible for producing reports please submit them to the parish office by 2 November (preferably ed). Annual Meeting - Sunday 22 November Annual Meeting of parishioners will be held this year on Sunday 22 November at St John s Toorak, at the conclusion of the 10am service that day, commencing at approximately 11.30am in the Church. Please think about offering yourself as a member of parish council. The position of parish treasurer will also be available as our current treasurer Milton Robinson has indicated his hope to retire from the position. Thanks Milton for your work and we pray that someone will offer to undertake this important role. Nomination forms will be available shortly. Evening Service The Evening Service will take place first Sunday of the month (only) at 5pm in the Angel Chapel, and will include Holy Communion.
