3 First Reading Acts 2:1-21 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. Utterly amazed, they asked: "Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own native language? Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs--we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!" Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, "What does this mean?" Some, however, made fun of them and said, "They have had too much wine." Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: "Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:" 'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.' Praise the Lord, O my soul. Praise the Lord. Romans 8:22-27 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will. Reader The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Survivor Camp SPC 4 th Annual Survivor Camp for ages 9-13 will be held Mon, July 27 to Fri, July 31, 8:00 AM 3:00 PM. Based on the TV show, competitive campers will enjoy swimming, kayaking, fishing, puzzles, games, learn about snakes & insects, survivor skills & God s Word. Cost is $160/week before July 15 th, $175/week after July 15th and includes lunch. Call to register. Deadline is Mon., July 20 th. The camper who earns the most points at the end of the week will be named: SOUL SURVIVOR and win a $50.00 gift certificate. Altar Flowers Flowers may be purchased at a cost of $50 in memory of a loved one or in thanksgiving or celebration of a special event. 14 BIBLE STUDIES & GROUPS Sunday AM Bible Study The Book of Revelation adult Bible study, led by Bill Proctor, will be taking a break for the summer. Note that the last class of the season is today, May 24 th. They will resume their study in the fall. Wednesday Night Bible Study Join Pastor Jon each Wednesday at 6:00 PM for the The Bondage Breaker Bible study which meets in the church office building (664 Azalea Lane). We have room for you! Women s Walking/Pray Group The walking group meets on Tuesdays at the boardwalk at Jaycee Park at 9:00 a.m. for a 30 minute walk followed by a devotional, prayers & fellowship. Contact Robin or the church office for more info. All are welcome to join us. Skimmers The Skimmers middle school group now meets at the Bethel Creek House, 4405 N. A1A. The class is led by Robin Hanson and meets on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 PM. A light supper is provided. Contact Robin Hanson for any questions at rhanson@stpaulsirc.org. Women s Group Ladies of all ages meet for fellowship and prayer at the church office on Thursday mornings at 10:00 AM. Please join us!
