2 Volume 7, Iss ue 8 Page 2 WE VE LOST A FRIEND Dear Friends at LCM, Love and Compassion Ministries good friend and former NFL Football Player, G. Booth Lusteg, died Thursday, July 12, Brother Booth often traveled three hours to come to Fort Myers from his home in Plantation on the east coast just to join us and provide a Sunday Service for incarcerated kids at Crossroads in Punta Gorda. He would sleep overnight in Ft Myers then travel back home the next day. He served the Lord in a mighty way! Please keep his family lifted up in prayer. Here is an article about his passing from the Miami Herald by Steven Montero smontero.miamiherald.com Gerald Booth Lusteg did it all. He played minor league baseball, participated in three different American football leagues, was ranked No. 11 in the United States Tennis Association's Men's 40 Division, and even made his high school hall of fame for his performance on the basketball court. Lusteg, who died last Thursday at 73, led the American Football League in kick scoring during his first season with the Buffalo Bills. He moved on to the Miami Dophins' roster the next season and made every extra point he kicked. He also played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers. Lusteg, who lived in Plantation, was diagnosed with lung cancer in May Booth Lusteg "He was a fighter, never complained, never shed a tear," his daughter Lisa Lusteg Bennett said. "I couldn't have asked for a better dad. I'm very, very proud of him. He inspired me; he motivated me." Bennett recalled a time at a tennis tournament when an old man collapsed on the sidewalk and Lusteg rushed over and performed CPR to revive him. In later life, Lusteg directed his focus on his faith. He was ordained and preached in ministries about self -motivation. These were themes in his 2002 autobiography, Kick Rejection...and Win! He found a way to merge his two passions by creating Kicking for Christ, a nonprofit camp for underprivileged youth. Lusteg majored in psychology and mathematics at the University of Connecticut and later also received his master's in number theory. He also had a real estate license. Bennett said Lusteg received fan mail every couple weeks. The most important letter, addressed to "Gooster," came from his granddaughter and Bennett's daughter, Linae, despite her living five minutes away. Inside the letter was a lock of her hair. Before Lusteg died, Bennett said he wanted to be buried (Continued on page 3)

Here s a poem our friend John Domino who worked for the Lord with him wrote to honor Booth Lusteg. Brother Booth's Final Field Goal - Heaven! He shared the love of Jesus to everyone and anyone that he would meet. He spoke of God's Word and talked among the crowds and the man on the street. He traveled all over the southwest reaching others and telling about God's truth. He made an impression on those who met him, he was known as our Brother Booth. Brother Booth would go the distance to reach others especially incarcerated youth. He traveled from east to the west; he was a class act and did what was best and right. On assignment from The Lord; his calling was to reveal the truth about God's light. He went out on the mission field to churches and ministries both large and small. He was going for a field goal for Jesus; he kept his heart and mind set on that goal. His Godly service here on earth has ended as he touched many seniors and youth. It's high time to accept the ball and score one for Heaven and our Brother Booth. 4 Volume 7, Iss ue 8 Page 4 WE RE PLANNING A YARD SALE Love and Compassion Ministries is planning a yard sale to get the word out about what Love And Compassion Ministries is doing and to raise funds. It will be held at our corporate offices at 1401 Viscaya Parkway on Saturday September 29th. We are now collecting items for the sale. If you would like to donate appliances, vehicles, toys, games, electronics, or almost anything that works, call us at or just come by to see us. Thank You! LOVE & COMPSSION MINISTRIES NEEDS YOU, TO HELP US, SERVE THE LORD We have many areas where we need you to help us serve our Lord. We need drivers! We frequently drive people to drug programs. Many of these people we have worked with through the court system to get them into a program rather than sending them to prison. We make all the arrangements and transport them to the programs. We have others who are going into programs voluntarily but have no way to get there. Last week I enjoyed driving a young man, I ll call him Ben (not his real name), to Faith Farms in Boynton Beach. Ron Willis had worked with this young man to get everything set so that he could enter the program. Ben knew the Lord as his Savior, but he said he had left God for awhile and done things his way. He really demonstrated a strong desire to overcome his addiction. Before going to Faith Farms he had voluntarily gone to detox at South West Florida Addiction Services. On the way, I heard him encouraging someone on the phone to get help. When we got there, they handed him some lengthy admission papers to fill out, then the pastor talked to him to decide whether they would admit him to the program. He was admitted, and after we got his bags out of the car, I told him I enjoyed meeting him. He replied, I m going to do this! Of course, he meant he was going to complete the nine month program and overcome his addiction. I just said, I really think you will, you have a great attitude. Wouldn t you like to spend a few hours serving the Lord and helping someone like Ben begin to change his life? We can use your help! We need help with our Street Ministry. On the last Friday of each month, we feed the homeless, give out clothing and personal items through a wonderful ministry that has teamed up with us called Street Watch Ministry. We share the Word of God with the street people and invite them to accept Christ as their Savior. We talk and listen to them one on one. Many have come to know Christ through this service. We bring the Church to the people. We need people to help us cook. We need listeners. We need people to talk one on one about (Continued on page 5)

Many of the youth who have been there will testify they have found that better way, left their walk to prison and started a new life with Jesus. Each week we pick up products from Publix and distribute them to churches, the projects and give what is left over to the food pantry. We need secretarial help answering our phones with requests to help with food, pay rent, electric, water bills and getting people into drug programs. 7 Volume 7, Iss ue 8 Page 7 Friends and Partners, God is looking for a few good men and women to serve Him. The duty of servants is summed up in one word, obedience. Yes, as a Christian you will face battles with opposition and spiritual warfare. As Christians we have learned to arm ourselves with the armor of God and prepare for battle. We know that our Lord Jesus is faithful and greater is He than that which is in the world, but are we obedient to His calling! We live in a fallen world and have to fight continually against earthly temptations, but we do so as Heaven's citizens. Christians will struggle with battles such as hate, pornography, lust, anger, doubt and so much more. We are urged to seek strength from the Bible, by the Spirit and through God's people. We are weaker than we often acknowledge, but together we, the family of God, are far stronger than we can possibly imagine. Have you ever wondered why our Lord told Joshua to take all the men of war and the priests and march around Jericho. The Lord had told Joshua, "See, I have given into your hand Jericho, with its king and mighty men of valor. So why didn t God just run all the people of Jericho off so that Joshua could just walk in. He didn t because... God wanted to see their faith and obedience. How many times would we make it around Jericho if God had told us to march around the city six days in a row, and then seven times the seventh day? By the third day would we give up? Maybe we would drop out after things got boring. After five days would most of us say this is insane, I m getting tired of this? What good is this? My feet are hurting me. I just don t have time for this. I am getting too old to do this. I didn t get enough sleep last night and I need a rest. Or maybe we would say my favorite TV show is playing tonight and I need to get home. My back won t allow me to walk this far. If I had better shoes I could walk another twenty miles, but not now. Would we have had the strength, desire, faith, obedience and heart to see the job through, or would we make excuses as to why we could not do what God was telling us to do? God needs good men and women to serve Him with obedience. II Timothy 2:1-4 says: You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. Our Lord won our eternal victory on the cross at Calvary, but He gave His Church the mission to take the fight to the gates of hell and the Gospel to the ends of the earth... regardless of personal costs! It is time to step into our place. God has called us all into the battle. Ecclesiastes 4: For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up. 11. Again, if two lie together, they are warm; but how can one be warm alone? 12. And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him. A threefold cord is not quickly broken. As we pray for their physical, moral, and spiritual needs, we must understand that because of JESUS CHRIST'S love for all of us, we are able to do this. CHRIST is the answer to every human's needs. As members of the BODY of CHRIST, we have the privilege and responsibility to pray for our Churches, our missionaries, public officials, other ministries, and each other. It is so exciting to see prayers being answered. May we always give CHRIST the Glory!
