1 DEMONSTRATING LOVE OPERATION ANDREW 2018 The Outreach Department will hold a door to door canvassing event on: SATURDAY MARCH 10 TH FROM 1:00 TO 3:00 THE BEACHWOOD APARTMENT COMPLEX 2901 BEACHWOOD BLVD (off Beach Blvd near 295). Volunteers will distribute bible tracts, share the gospel, and invite the tenants to worship with us. We would love to have you join us in demonstrating love by sharing the word of God. On behalf of the Julington Baptist Church Men s Ministry, we sincerely invite you to our Pancake Breakfast Fellowship. We will be discussing various and intriguing topics that are relative to men and are synonymous to Christian and Biblical principles. The theme for our breakfast is We are Ambassadors for Christ. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ s stead be ye reconciled to God. Would you like them to participate in a day of activities geared toward these areas? Then please consider allowing your child to attend the Fifth Annual STEM Day at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. STEM Day is an outreach activity for 6th -12th grade students, designed to increase their interest in pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields, and to highlight the various STEM activities taking place on FAMU s campus. There will be: SPEAKERS SCIENCE DEMOS AND HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES PRIZES AND GIVEAWAYS Transportation to and from the event will be provided.

Best Regards, Youth Department Director Pastor s Message March 2018 Godly Faith Our Sunday school lessons this past quarter have focused on Faith in Action. One of our most recent lessons, A Disciplined Faith, taught us the dangers of the tongue ; a message from James on the importance of teachers communications and its influence on others. Following on with this discussion, this month we are reissuing an earlier message

4 from our Pastor. Communicate, Communicate, Communicate Communication is a word often used but seldom comprehended. All of us do it, but to do it well requires more time listening than speaking and provides more wealth than silver and gold. Although the art of mastering good communications is illusive, one might capture it if it is given the appropriate time and due diligence. Too often our speech is perceived as being mean and therefore the intended message misses its mark. Well, how to say what you mean without being mean is the means by which all good communication is measured. Hear what Paul said to the church at Thessalonica; And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; (1 Thessalonians 4:11) Study to be quiet means to hear, before you speak, every word that you are about to say; become the listener so that you may hear your tone; that you may consider your words and ensure yourself that they represent that which you are rightfully entitled to speak. Be mindful of your demeanor and body language; they often speak louder than your words, so try to see them through the eyes of those to whom you are attempting to communicate. Finally, we are to work with our own hands; in other words, make sure that our business is truly ours and done to the glory of the Lord, as we commanded you. One may detect miscommunication by being vigilant in observing results. Is there a constant need to repeat, deliberate, or excuse incidents resulting from poor communication? Does your interaction too often result in unresolved disagreements leading to irrational actions and even anger? Do you actively listen while communicating with others or are you more engaged in formulating your response before their thoughts have been completely conveyed? When your decisions affect others, are they communicated clearly and simply and with love, to prevent misunderstanding and resistance? Are they timely? Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. (Ephesians 4:29) More often it is not what one says that provokes malice and contempt but how one says it. Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. (1 Corinthians 15:33) As leaders, do you recognize barriers that hinder effective communication and seek to avoid them? Are your communications truthful and honest, yet spoken with consideration and respect for the feelings and opinions of others; while still being steadfast in your faith and our Christian principles? Before speaking, apply this litmus test; is it True, is it Kind, is it Necessary? If you answer yes to all three, then proceed cautiously and pray that every word is seasoned with the love of God. A woman confessed to her doctor that her husband was becoming more and more violent in his speech and that she was increasingly becoming more and more

5 concerned about her own safety. The doctor said, the next time you suspect that he is about to go off and get violent I want you to immediately fill your mouth with water but do not swallow. The woman was a bit confused but she trusted her doctor. Sure enough things at home reached a level of conflict that gave reason for the wife to be really concerned about her safety. She immediately remembered the doctor s recommendation and took a swig of water and held it in her mouth. Things immediately began to subside. Amazing, she thought. Before returning to the doctor she had the opportunity to prove over and over again the success of her doctor s recommendation. One afternoon the woman saw the doctor and her husband shopping. The woman excitedly approached them with the good news about the peace and tranquility that was due to her recommendation. So, tell me doctor, what power is there in the water to cause my husband to calm down so quickly in the heat of our arguments? Oh, replied the doctor, it s not the water that calms your husband, it s the fact that you cannot talk with your mouth full. At that moment the doctor s husband interjected; And you might help your husband to know that it works for him as well. They all laughed and enjoyed the rest of the evening. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: (James 1:19) Njm Julington Baptist Church Women s Ministry 2018 Event The Women s Ministry of Julington Baptist Church is asking you to mark your calendar for our second 2018 prayer breakfast.
