1 The Litany of Reconciliation by Canon Joseph Poole, 1958 All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. The hatred which divides nation from nation, race from race, class from class, The covetous desires of people and nations to possess what is not their own, The greed which exploits the work of human hands and lays waste the earth, Our envy of the welfare and happiness of others, Our indifference to the plight of the imprisoned, the homeless, the refugee, The lust which dishonours the bodies of men, women and children, The pride which leads us to trust in ourselves and not in God, Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

3 The Rt Rev John Armes, Bishop of Edinburgh: We begin our worship by celebrating Christ Jesus, the Prince of Peace. We praise him for his sacrifice on the cross by which we have been reconciled to God and entrusted with the ministry of peace and reconciliation throughout his world. OPENING HYMN: Crown him with many crowns, Crown him with many crowns, the Lamb upon his throne, Hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own. Awake, my soul, and sing of him who died for thee, and hail him as thy matchless King through all eternity. On this floor you will find: Cromdale Hall This is our Food Hall. Crown him the Lord of peace, whose power a scepter sways from pole to pole, that wars may cease, and all be prayer and praise: his reign shall know no end, and round his pierced feet fair flowers of paradise extend their fragrance ever sweet.

We hope for peace, Lord, wherever there is trouble, wherever there is suffering. We hope for peace. We pray for peace. And so, Lord, as we come to you in prayer we ask firstly that we may find peace within: peace within ourselves, peace with one another, peace in your presence as we draw near in faith to your throne of grace. 6 to stand up for justice and peace and be signs of your reconciling love for all. God of grace, enable your servants to carry out your mission on earth through the work of Mothers Union worldwide. Today we pray for the people and the work of: Katanga in DR Congo; Rwenzori in Uganda; Mbaise & Egba in Nigeria; Meath & Kildare in All Ireland and Tiruchirappalli Thanjavur in India We pray for all members. May God be with them in every part of their lives, encouraging them and leading them, sheltering and strengthening them so they may work to your praise and glory. Amen THE MOTHERS UNION PRAYER Loving Lord We thank you for your love so freely given to us all. We pray for families around the world. Bless the work of the Mothers Union as we seek to share your love through the encouragement, strengthening and support of marriage and family life. Empowered by your Spirit, may we be united in prayer and worship, and in love and service reach out as your hands across the world. In Jesus name. Amen GRACE Mothers Union members around the world really are on the front line of their communities, working hard to encourage Peace and support Reconciliation in many different ways. Some examples have been chosen to showcase to you today, please do visit them and ask questions. They are: Exhibition of Shoes - A project in Scotland which works within prisons to help offenders see what it s like in the victims of the Community A study in how one fashion show can bring a branch, new members, community groups and local businesses together. Embracing Difference From the Diocese of Leeds we learn from a recent conference which would be easily replicated in other areas... Away From It All An established project across several Dioceses, helping families find the time to reconcile with each other, including those from Grenfell Tower 16 Days of Activism How the Policy and Advocacy of Mothers Union members makes real change happen at government level. Stories on the Streets With recent pilot projects within the UK we are now learning how communities can work to support each other with our members. Hat tê ḇāh (place of safety) - How is Mothers Union working with partners to help support refugees facing a new culture?

7 The Rt. Rev d Andrew Proud: As our time together draws to a close we end as we began, by celebrating Christ as our Prince of Peace. We thank God for all we have heard today which has inspired us go from here, as ambassadors of Christ, to take his message of peace and reconciliation into the world. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ s behalf: be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Homily: The Rt. Rev d Andrew Proud PRAYER Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with us. Open our eyes, Father, to your world full of your beauty, love, grace. Remind us of your Son, our Saviour, who brings forgiveness, reconciliation and hope to broken, hurting people. And may your Holy Spirit equip us with wisdom, truth and the desire to bring about your Kingdom in our hearts, homes, communities and world
