10 Related Project Experience Architectural Qualifications Statement 10 St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Archdiocese of Denver Longmont, Colorado St. Francis of Assisi chose to build their Social Hall first and utilize it as their formal Worship area and then masterplan a future new formal Worship area. The facility is a two-story building on a sloped site with a gorgeous view of the mountains to the west. The overall site was approximately 14 to 15 acres in size. In addition to the church, the First Phase also included the design of a rectory for Father Maroney. The design of the church is sized with a Worship area to accommodate between 400 and 450 people. Adjacent to that space on the upper level are the narthex area and a multiuse room that can also serve as a cry room to accommodate another 40 to 50 people. Other spaces on the main level include the entry Narthex Space, one additional meeting room space, a small kitchen for fellowship before and after Mass and restroom areas. The lower level of the church contains the church offices, the Social Hall, a commercial kitchen, a choir room and three additional religious education rooms. 11 Related Project Experience Architectural Qualifications Statement 11 Before In completing the overall masterplan for St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Eidos Architects recommended to the church that we flip the worship area and move the sanctuary to the opposite end of the existing church. By doing so, we were able to create a larger entry and narthex area that has a south orientation to the majority of the on-site parking at the church. We then announce the entrance by adding on a new 24 hour adoration chapel and a new social hall. The lower level below the social hall also is currently providing the parish with additional religious education classrooms that are also used by the St. John the Baptist Catholic School. 12 Related Project Experience Architectural Qualifications Statement 12 Holy Name Catholic Church Archdiocese of Denver Steamboat Springs, Colorado Originally built in the early 1960 s, when Steamboat Springs was a much smaller ranching community, the Parish at Holy Name has exploded with growth as the community has blossomed into a major ski resort. With growth occurring in all areas of the Parish, Holy Name requested that Eidos Architects first prepare an overall masterplan, not only reflecting current growth, but in anticipation of Holy Name s continual growth over the next 30 to 40 years. Reference: Father Ernest Bayer (970) The masterplan that has been developed will double the size of the existing church increasing its seating capacity from 280 to just over 600. The intent of the masterplan is to create a completely interconnected campus with the major focus of the campus being the church and Sanctuary. The interconnecting elements of the Narthex, Office Area, as well as the Religious Educational components of the masterplan are developed with transparent relationships though the use of glass and strategic alignments in the design to allow you to view the Nave and Sanctuary from multiple locations throughout Holy Name s campus. In addition it is the intent of the masterplan to not only connect the building on the interior but also through meditative cloister walks that surround the building, announce the entrance and help prepare the parishioners for worship as they approach Holy Name. 13 Related Project Experience Architectural Qualifications Statement 13 Sacred Heart Catholic Church Diocese of Pueblo Fruita, Colorado The first phase of the new Sacred Heart Catholic Church, which is to be built in Fruita, Colorado, includes approximately 13,550 sq. ft. of space and will utilize approximately one fourth of the church s 16 acre site. The church is to be located on the west end of the site so that it can capture views of the Colorado Monument south of the church. At the same time, that area is the most highly visible portion of the site from 17-1/2 Road. Other facilities and amenities that are part of the site development of the first phase include parking for approximately 135 vehicles, youth and adult outdoor activity areas and a community garden area. The entrance to the church is a protected entry from the east side of the site. The site also contains an outdoor patio area off of the social hall and a memorial courtyard area off of the worship area. In keeping with values of an environmentally sustainable church, the new Sacred Heart Catholic Church will be energy and water efficient, have abundant natural lighting, maintain a healthy indoor environment for the wellbeing of the parishioners. 14 Related Project Experience Architectural Qualifications Statement 14 Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church Archdiocese of Denver Greeley, Colorado The expansion and remodeling of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Greeley, Colorado is intended to retain the Mexican heritage of the original design, which respects and reuses the existing worship space in a new way which will allow the church to expand now and in the future. Reference: Father Stephen Siebert ((970) Father Bernie Schmitz (303) The revitalized church will utilize the existing portion of the building for an expanded lobby space, conversion of the existing sanctuary into a new Adoration Chapel and the utilization of the rest of the space for part of the expanded 460 seat Nave. The new church will be in a cruciform shape that will be accented by a sky lit lantern that will wash natural light directly over the top of the altar and sanctuary area. The church has been masterplanned to expand the Nave, add a Day Chapel and Administrative Offices on the first floor. The lower level has also been planned to expand the Parish Hall and add storage and restroom facilities. Eidos Architects, PC 14

15 Related Project Experience Architectural Qualifications Statement 15 Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Archdiocese of Denver Lafayette, Colorado Reference: Father Robert Amundsen (303) Project Type: New Facility The new Immaculate Conception Catholic Church project is sited on approximately 11 acres of ground in the Cabrini Gardens Subdivision in Lafayette. The siting of the building in the Cabrini Gardens Subdivision is planned to take maximum advantage of the views of the Front Range as well as allow the church to be very visible from the major arterial streets in the area. The church is planned to be built in several phases. The first phase of the project contained a new worship area to seat 500 people, a new narthex area, a Social Hall, new church offices and religious education rooms. Eidos Architects, PC 15

16 1 Firm Information Related Project Experience Architectural Qualifications Statement 16 Reference: Pat Nook (303) Project Type: Addition and Renovation Project Cost: $4,500,000 Ave Maria Catholic Church and School Diocese of Colorado Springs Parker, Colorado The project at Ave Maria Catholic Church and School provided additional facilities for each of the buildings. On the school side of the campus, the addition called for a new cafeteria and gymnasium space. On the church side of the facility the new masterplan called for a new social hall, a new narthex space and a new adoration chapel. The project also included new administrative offices for both the church and the school and shared facilities such as the kitchen, bathroom areas. Last, the additions connected the church to the school so that the entire facility can function as one complete unified facility. Eidos Architects, PC 16

17 Related Project Experience Architectural Qualifications Statement 17 All Souls Catholic Church and School Archdiocese of Denver Englewood, Colorado References: Father Robert Fisher (303) Alex Rohr (303) Eidos challenge was to use existing space for the library and design something that would be affordable on our non-profit budget. I am extremely pleased with the space they have created. The library is spacious and bright, it will serve as a central learning space for our entire school community. We offered a somewhat limited budget for this project, but Eidos design does not reflect limitations, it is a great space. Project Type: Remodeling and Addition Project Cost: $2,000,000 -Excerpt from a letter by Mary Cohen, Assistant Superintendent for the Archdiocese of Denver All Souls Catholic School is one of the most successful parochial schools within the Archdiocese of Denver. In order to remain competitive and to increase enrollment in an ever changing and challenging educational market, All Souls partnered with Eidos Architects to enhance and expand their school facility. The completed Phase I included additions to school that created new technological support areas for the educational programs and included a new library and media center, computer rooms, art room and music room, religious education office and school administration. Glass and transparent design features were a focus of this project to create transparent learning environments. Eidos Architects, PC 17

18 Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Archdiocese of Denver Denver, Colorado Related Project Experience Architectural Qualifications Statement 18 Reference: Rev. Msgr. Thomas S. Fryar (303) Mary Ellen Lederman (303) Gary Miller (303) Originally completed in 1912, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception was then remodeled in 1977, which changed some of the original historical context of the building. In an effort to restore the original historical character of the building, Eidos Architects worked with the Archdiocese of Denver to restore the building which included changing the floor configuration of the sanctuary and working with a liturgical art company from Madrid, adding new side shrines and an altar table to the Sanctuary. Eidos Architects also designed new wooden furniture replicating the Gothic style of the building which includes a new Presider s chair, deacon s chairs and credence tables. The Baptistry was also moved from the Narthex to the Nave utilizing the existing font as well as portions of the original marble communion rail. Two of the reconciliation chapels will also be removed and replaced with devotional areas including relocating a large devotional marble cross as well as the devotional area to Our Lady of Guadalupe. Wood paneling that was designed in the 1970 s and surrounding the Stations of the Cross will be replaced with new plaster walls articulated with columns and arches to replicate the Gothic character of the facility. Finally, the interior walls and ceiling of the Cathedral will be repaired and repainted to replicate the original color pallet of the Cathedral. Before Eidos Architects, PC 18
