3 it might be the devil or it might be the Lord, but you gotta serve somebody Material things Money Popularity Fame Fleshly pleasures Success Respect.

4 THE FALSE PROMISES OF THE WORLD We live in a world where we assume we have an inalienable right to the pursuit of happiness.

5 I can t get no satisfaction, but I try, and I try and I try, I can t get me no satisfaction. JOY: the emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune or by the prospect of possessing what one desires see happy. HAPPY: the feeling experienced when one's wishes are met

6 God Wants Us to be Joyful. He is Nice! Really. Even if we re unhappy at the same time!

7 IT S GOD S WILL FOR YOU TO BE JOYFUL John 16:24: Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. Romans 15:13: you with all joy. May the God of hope fill

8 We Need to be Joyful Romans 14:17: For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

9 JOY IS HOW WE SING Psalm 51:14 my tongue will joyfully sing of Your righteousness. Psalm 59:16 But as for me, I shall sing of Your strength; Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your loving-kindness in the morning, Psalm 100:2 Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before Him with joyful singing. praises

10 JOY Makes You Want to Shout a little bit louder now.little bit louder now.. Psalm 30:5 Weeping may last for the night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning Psalm 71:23 My lips will shout for joy when I sing praises to You; Psalm 98:6 With trumpets and the sound of the horn Shout joyfully before the King, the LORD. Psalm 32:11; Psalm 33:3 Psalm 35:27 Psalm 47:1; Psalm 95:1

11 Joyful yes, but there is also a time for being sad. Tears are allowed!

12 Abraham Wept; Joseph Wept; David Wept. Genesis 23:2 And Sarah died. and Abraham went in to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her. Genesis 43:30 Then Joseph hurried out, for his compassion grew warm for his brother, and he sought a place to weep. And he entered his chamber and wept there. Psalm 6:6 I am weary with my moaning; every night I flood my bed with tears; I drench my couch with my weeping.

17 Joy and Sorrow Can be Simultaneous Romans 12:15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.

18 CAN YOU HAVE JOY EVEN WHEN YOU ARE IN THE MIDST OF AFFLICTION? 2 Corinthians 8:2 for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. 2 Corinthians 7:4b In all our affliction, I am overflowing with joy. 1 Thessalonians 1:6 you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit,

19 JOY IN FINANCIAL DISASER Hebrews 10:34: you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one.

20 Through Trials come Joy 1 Peter 1:3-9: By his great mercy he gave us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This brings you great joy, although you may have to suffer for a short time in various trials. Such trials show the proven character of your faith, which is much more valuable than gold gold that is tested by fire, even though it is passing away and will bring praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. You have not seen him, but you love him. You do not see him now but you believe in him, and so you rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, because you are attaining the goal of your faith the salvation of your souls.

21 We Should Rejoice in Our Sufferings Romans 5:3-4 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, Colossians 1:24 Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake. 22 Paul Rejoices in Corinthians Godly Grief 2 Corinthians 7:9 As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting. For you felt a godly grief, so that you suffered no loss through us.

23 SO, HOW THEN, CAN WE EXPERIENCE JOY IN THE MIDST OF AFFLICTION? WARNING: PRACTICAL ADVICE TO FOLLOW WHICH YOU SHOULD APPLY TO YOUR LIFE!

24 COUNT IT JOY James 1:2: Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds,

26 JOY IS WHY WE SING Psalm 90:14 O satisfy us in the morning with Your loving-kindness, That we may sing for joy and be glad all our day. Psalm 92:4 For You, O LORD, have made me glad by what You have done, I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands. See also: Psalm 5:11; 33:1; 63:7; 67:4; 81:1; 95:1; 98:4.

27 JOY FROM HIS PRESENCE Psalm 16:11 In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever. We will sing for joy. Psalm 27:6 I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD Psalm 95:2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms

28 JOY IN GOD S PRESENCE Psalm 21:6; You make him joyful with gladness in Your presence. Psalm 43:4 Then I will go to the altar of God, To God my exceeding joy; And upon the lyre I shall praise You, O God, my God Psalm 84:2 My soul longed and even yearned for the courts of the LORD; My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God See also: Psalm 51:12 63:5; 89:15

29 RECEIVE JOY IN HIS WORD John 15:11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. John 17:13 But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 1 John 1:4 And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.

30 JOY IS A FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT, ASK FOR IT! Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

31 FROM SORROW TO JOY Luke 6:22-23 Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you and insult you and reject you as evil on account of the Son of Man! Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets. John 16:20 Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.

33 Acts 8:5-8: Philip went down to the main city of Samaria and began proclaiming the Christ to them. The crowds were paying attention with one mind to what Philip said, as they heard and saw the miraculous signs he was performing. So there was great joy in that city. 35 JOY HEARING OF THE SALVATION OF OTHERS Luke 15:7, 10: Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.

Is it not you? 1 Thessalonians 2:20 For you are our glory and joy.

52 JOY WILL COME FROM EXPERIENCING GOD S PRESENCE, DOING GOD S WORK AND SEEING GOD WORK IN OTHER PEOPLE
