5 Bible 800 LIFEPAC Teacher Notes INSTRUCTIONS FOR BIBLE The Alpha Omega Curriculum from grades two through twelve was written with the daily instructional material written directly in the LIFEPACs. The student is encouraged to read and follow his own instructional material thus developing independent study habits. The teacher should introduce the LIFEPAC to the student, set a required completion schedule, complete teacher checks, be available for questions regarding both subject content and procedures, administer and grade tests and develop additional learning activities as desired. Teachers working with several students may schedule their time so that students are assigned to a quiet work activity when it is necessary to spend instructional time with one particular student. The Teacher Notes section of the handbook lists the required or suggested materials for the LIFEPACs and provides additional learning activities for the students. The materials section refers only to LIFEPAC materials and does not include materials which may be needed for the additional activities. Additional learning activities provide a change from the daily school routine, encourage the student s interest in learning and may be used as a reward for good study habits. 27
6 Bible 801 Teacher Notes Materials Needed for LIFEPAC Suggested: King James Version of the Bible other versions of the Bible if available and permitted Additional Learning Activities Section I Christ s Model Prayer 1. Discuss these questions with your class. a. Can we be Christians without praying? b. Can we be Christians without praying every day? c. Is it better to pray in the morning or at night or both? d. How can we pray without ceasing? e. Do you think friends of yours have gone through difficulties which might have been eased if you had prayed for them? f. Does God hear a sinner s prayer? g. Have you ever felt stronger because you knew someone was praying for you? h. Does praying for the same thing day after day show persistence or a lack of faith? Should we just ask God once, then leave it in His hands or should we remind Him of it now and then? i. If Christ was without sin, why did He need to pray? j. Do you think your attitude toward God as your heavenly Father could be determined by your relationship with your earthly father? (For example, if you have love for and confidence in your earthly father and can bring your needs to him, then it would be easier to transfer these attitudes to your heavenly father.) k. Do you think our forefathers prayed more and had more faith for their material needs than we do today? (Taking into consideration that today we have welfare, loan companies, credit cards, etc. Do we have to trust God as much as we would if we did not have as many resources available?) l. If we are sick, should we pray first or go to the doctor? Does going to the doctor indicate a lack of faith? m. Is it always God s will to heal sickness? n. Will God supply our wants as well as our needs? o. Is it wrong or selfish to pray for ourselves? 2. Have everyone in class write a prayer request on a slip of paper (signed or unsigned) and exchange with someone else (or put all slips in a box and have everyone draw one out). Pray for that request every day for the next week (then make new requests if class shows interest in continuing). 3. Have each member of the class say a sentence prayer aloud. Different themes can be used each day, such as a prayer of thanksgiving, prayer of petition for school, petition for sick classmate, petition for country and leaders. 29
7 Bible 801 Teacher Notes 4. Look up 1 Corinthians 10:13 or Philippians 4:19 in the Bible. Copy it on an index card and hang it in your bedroom or in a room where you can see it often. 5. Make a prayer list. Include friends, family, church leaders, national leaders, and those who are going through a particular crisis or need special prayer. 6. Make a list of special prayer requests, such as the salvation of a friend or a family member. Put a date beside these requests and later put the date your prayer was answered. (Looking back at this list later and seeing the answers will increase your faith.) Section II Christ s Teaching on Prayer 1. Discuss these questions with your class. a. If a person does not have faith for his own healing, can he still be healed through the prayers and faith of others? b. Is it important if we kneel, stand, or sit when we pray? c. Have a contest to see who can make the most words out of thanksgiving. Plural and proper nouns do not count. Set a time limit. 2. Interview a pastor, Sunday school teacher, or friend on their most remarkable answer to prayer. 3. Write a 100-word report on a Bible character who experienced an unusual answer to prayer. 4. Begin a notebook of answered prayers. These can include your own prayers or testimonies given in church of answered prayers. They can also include stories from Christian literature. You may want to divide them into categories such as personal, friends, Bible characters, and so forth. 5. The following activity may be reproduced. Additional Activity, Answer Key John 17:1 that Jesus may be glorified John 17:5 restoration to eternal glory John 17:11 and 15 safety of believers John 17:17 sanctification of believers John 17:21 23 unity of believers John 17:21 that the world may believe John 17:24 believers be with Jesus in heaven John 17:1 5 Jesus prays for Himself John 17:6 19 Jesus prays for His disciples John 17:20 26 Jesus prays for all believers of all ages 30
8 Bible 801 Teacher Notes THE LORD S PRAYER Although Jesus prayer found in Matthew 6:9 13 is commonly referred to as the Lord s Prayer, Jesus prayer for His saints (John chapter 17) relates more to the child of God today than does any other prayer. Read Christ s prayer for His people in John chapter 17, and then identify the seven petitions of this prayer on these lines. John 17:1 John 17:5 John 17:11; 15 John 17:17 John 17:21 23 _ John 17:21 John 17:24 In addition to identifying the seven petitions of Jesus prayer, write an outline to this prayer on these lines. 31
