1 Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Living the Dream Award Criteria and Nomination Form About the Award As part of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, the park system honors an individual, business, or community group who has demonstrated dedication and distinguished service to the MPRB and the lives of Minneapolis residents. The honoree must act consistently with the teachings and examples of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., as the award is intended to recognize those whose work embodies Dr. King s message of justice for all and commitment to community. Award recipients are honored at the January 15, 2018 celebration held at Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center. Past Recipients: 2017 Jovonta Patton, Singer/Musician 2016 Frank M. Mays, Rev., Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Legacy Council 2014 Larry Fitzgerald Jr., Arizona Cardinals 2013 Jimmy Longoria, Mentoring Peace Through Art 2012 Reverend Jerry McAfee, New Salem Missionary Baptist Church 2011 Minnesota Twins 2010 Hy Rosen, Executive Director of the Greater Lake Country Food Bank Selection Criteria In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'" This award recognizes and affirms those who have made significant and tangible contributions to the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board visions, goals, and strategies and to residents of Minneapolis in the following ways: Advocates for a commitment to peace, justice, and reconciliation while following a nonviolent approach to transforming racial, social, and economic injustice Creates venues and opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds to come together and create relationships, develop an understanding of differences, and build community Demonstrates extraordinary community service and leadership by providing or promoting recreation that inspires personal growth and healthy lifestyles for all resident and park users Promotes nonviolence while supporting safe places to play, recreate, contemplate, and celebrate in the community Sets an example of leadership in the community and works to improve the lives of others, particularly the underserved, by applying the values of good conduct, respect, integrity, fairness, and dignity

2 Selection Process 1. The Award Committee reviews all nominations and recommends finalists to the MPRB Superintendent 2. The Superintendent and Executive Leadership Team selects the award recipient 3. The Award Committee will notify the award recipient in December and invite them to attend the January 15, 2018 event as honoree to accept the award. If you know someone that meets the selection criteria and has exemplified these skills in our park system and throughout the community, please submit the following form.
